    Understand the support for RD, I was not dismissive, just critical. I believe he has done well, but I doubt he can do any better – onless he wises up.

     

    I really have a problem trying to understand why so many players I have admired underperformed tonight.

     

    I blame the manager, others don’t.

     

    That’s ok, but I would appreciate a wee bit of help in trying to understand.

    Charlie mulgrew was rubbish.

     

    Can’t defend, too slow, was at fault for first , maybe second goal as well.

     

    Never picked up his man.

     

    Get rid of him. Get as much as we can for him and pick up a hungry youngun.

    It has to be said that we were truly awful tonight and did not deserve to go through…however goals change matches and our goal should have stood It seems to be a Joe Jordan moment in reverse as the referee apparently disallowed the goal for handball when obviously it was a Malmo hand.If you watch the referee and the goalside assistant at the second goal neither of them seemed to award the goal until the 3rd or was it 4th effort hit the net.

    Ruggyman, good post lost in the mediocricity, my thoughts exactly.

     

     

    From Paul’s post a few days ago we only need to be the best of the five worst European Leagues to qualify ( and we have five chances at it ) and we didn’t do it.

     

     

    Credit to FIFA for organising it this way but we are now in the league of one of the poorest European performers in the European Leagues.

    Time to accept CFC are now a limbo team – caught between a rock and hard place! Good enough to dominate in Scotland – technically proficient but seriously lacking Euro-wise.

     

     

    I desperately want us to progress but…………….. I doubt we can due to poor ‘player investment’ and management nous. We are now and for the foreseeable future destined to be on the fringes of European participation.

     

     

    IMO we are likely to make a decent ‘fist of it’ in the Europa League – whether we progress to the last 32 remains to be seen. We have a ‘collective’ of decent to good players – but lack; a ‘game-changer’ individual and a clinical finisher.

     

     

    I look at MON’s Seville team and 2 last 16 places by WGS and ask myself ………..

     

     

    how many of today’s team would have got a place in their Team or on the bench?

     

     

    60+ years supporting the Team (and God knows how many hard times I have had following them) but time to call it as it is………………

     

     

    One or two good individuals – a collection of decent athletes – a blueprint that the majority can work to – but………………

     

     

    none that could be classed as; individualistic, creative or game-changers!

     

     

    Hey! We will win League titles (and Cups) and qualify for Europe but – it depresses me to say that I now seriously doubt we will ever make any significant impact in the CL and at best – will be a mid-ranking Europa participant.

     

     

    I should be thankful – seen us win one and participate in another 2 European finals – doubt I will add to the portfolio.

     

     

    Very depressed with tonight’s performance and result! :-(

    We were told when we appointed Ronny we were getting the Norwegian Mourinho. I have seen nothing to back this up. Is he a tactical genius? No. Does he play attractive football? No. Does he even make correct substitutions? No. Would Jackie McNamara have done any worse? Probably not. He has has two cracks at the Champions League and has failed both times against meagre opposition. He took 6 months to work out that Leigh Griffiths is his best striker, and that Kris Commons is his most creative player. He also thinks that it is acceptable to roar/celebrate with the fans when we beat Ross County 1-0. Do you think Jock Stein or Martin O’Neill would roar after beating Ross County? We were embarrassing last season in the Europa League and if it wasn’t for Craig Gordon we would have lost every match. Sack him and put Chris Sutton in charge.

    So much for those calling for Izzy to be dropped. Mulgrew offered a lot less than Izzy both defending and going forward. Big mistake. Forrest despite some good runs, just doesn’t have it at this ir even SPFL level.

     

     

    Let’s stop going back to guys who have consistently let us down in the past.

    I feel sorry for Ronny. He was let down by his stars Brown, VVD, Gordon, Johansen and Mulgrew. Awful performances by the lot of them.

    I think the general consensus in football parlance is that you should judge a manager once he’s had three transfer windows, surely this only applies to managers that are backed, there bonus monies and dividends depriving the transfer kitty, which is already pitiful.

     

     

    Despite the trolls no one not one has suggested spending on the scale of tfod, yet some use it as a defence of the boards parsimony. If we scrapped thru on top of the VVD money, we’d have been lucky to see £3m of that, now whose fault is that, RD will be lucky if he gets anything from the VVD money at all, and hes already said we dont need to sell him so whose fault is that.

     

     

    The buck stops with PL he gets paid handsomely enough for it but he’s had too many chances, sadly he’ll still be driving the gravy train into oblivion

    Cannae believe Celtic fans slagging off Malmo.

     

     

    If Celtic had even 1/2 of Malmo’s professionalism, we’d have tanned them, home and away.

     

     

    If Malmo can stay motivated I think and actually hope they’ll do no too bad.

     

     

    Seems to me too many Celtic ‘fans’ on here are actually afraid their team will work hard, my guess for this is you can actually go a long way with a decent team who put their back into it, you don’t need to look very far in terms of years or mileage either.

    I’m pretty pissed off with the performance tonight but I am not going to blame Ronny. The players let him down badly. I was going to make the trip but thank the Good Lord that I didn’t. I have been to plenty of away European games and if the truth were to be told, apart from the awful performance tonight, we are usually pretty inept away from home.

     

    Unless you are Barcelona, Bayern or one of the other financially doped teams you will not progress in Europe until you learn to defend properly at this level. Teams that are difficult to beat are more likely to progress than those playing pretty football. Unfortunately big Virgil gets found out at this level and a few people on here, and I include myself in that, need a reality check on how much he is really worth. As regards Johansen he is like Broonie with the brain removed.

     

    Still tomorrow is another day and unlike some of the imposters on here I will wake up a Celtic supporter.

    In my opinion your idea will gets us nowhere. there were many players found out today. If I were Ronny I’d spend now till 1 january replacing the “pros” who let him down. The only one I’d consider keeping would be Brown.

    Amido Balde , 1.5million

     

    Pukki, 2.4 million

     

    Rasmussen 1.5 million

     

    Efrain Juarez 3.5 million

     

    Derk Boerritger 3million

     

    Mohammed Bangura 2.2 million

     

    Scepovic 2.3 million

     

     

    If we had qualified, would we really have invested in quality? I think the best way to do things is to scout properly. I’ve been told the scouting is not as good as it should be at Celtic. Lacks imagination and vision often.

     

     

    However, if you think about it a few of those ended up having decent careers. Rasmussen didn’t end up doing too badly. Berget has done o.k too ;-).

     

     

    I’d prefer to reduce ticket prices so more people can watch Celtic and get some class youngesters coming into the squad.

    He won two out of three when it wasn`t possible to “bring on the Hearts and Hibs and Rangers.”

     

    He may be on a learning curve.

     

    At the expense of Celtic and our ambitions.

    Thanks to you and Ryan for making it a great match, even with the last minute disaster!

     

     

    It is low, for sure. Have to take into consideration the last minute goal, and the disallowed one had on the tie, but over all, we were not good enough. Should have been 3-0 up at half time in the first game, and should have played a hell of a lot better and created more chances in this one.

     

     

    Thanks again for getting me back safe and quickly to catch my train!

    They got their wish..same people now realise mulgrew is still the same slow average player he was last year and year before.

     

     

    Many many people wanted Celtic to stop buying projects from around Europe.. We have bought 3 from spl and that hasn’t really improved us.

     

     

    Our squad is so weak it’s depressing.

     

     

    And to think few years back we moaned at Caldwell ,McManus, Robson and Scott McDonald… They would have sent Malmö packing in 1st leg.

    honestly don’t understand where the sack the board comments come from. How is tonight PL’s fault? How do we buy better players – the magic money pot? Like the old rangers did? Look what happened to them. Could just one poster tell us where this money will come from?

    I can tell you where the money does come from- not from a magic pot, but from gullible eejits like us.

     

     

    I haven’t heard anyone say we should spend money we don’t have.

     

     

    Celtic have money or access to modest credit lines.

     

     

    Unless we spend the money we have in improving players, we will not guarantee ourselves the £15-£20m annually from CL.

     

     

    A MODEST net investment of, say, £5-10m on new players would likely have made a difference.

     

     

    But, we have been banging this drum for years only to listen to a multi millionaire Chief Executive and a billionaire Director tell us that theres no money in the tin.

     

     

    The over cautious parsimony of the PLC has got us where we are. Simple as.

     

     

    (PS, the PLC still don’t pay a living wage. Shameful.)
