Scouts will have seen different aspects in Malmo and Glasgow

446

Malmo quickly followed up their best result of the season against Salzburg with a 2-1 win over top of the table Gothenburg.  They remain four points off the pace but whatever form issues they have had in recent months appear to be resolved.

Champions League football was a harsh experience for Malmo last season.  They qualified after beating Salzburg 3-0 in the play-off round, coincidentally the same score they beat the same opponents by in the last round.  While Salzburg went on to top Celtic’s Europa League group, Malmo lost home and away to Juventus and Atletico Madrid, winning their only points in a home win over Olympiakos.

I’m sure Celtic will have scouted yesterday’s game in Malmo and will have learned more about the home team than Malmo learned about Celtic during yesterday’s stroll in the park at Firhill.  We will have seen them at their best, they will have seen us scarcely breaking sweat.

Ronny will have an idea of the extent of the challenge ahead.  Malmo might not be a match for Juventus or Atletico but they know how to play European football.  We will all have an important job to do at Celtic Park next week.

  1. It seems to me the team are playing way way to much football to only record a 2.0 win . With a football performance like that they should be scoring far more than they are . Yesterday was a perfect example . Super stuff until celtic get to the 18 yard box , then they run out of options . I’m not about to suggest a remedy to this ,as I’m only an observer , but I think Ronny and his back room staff should be working on the reason for this

Yes it’s the same as previous years mate.

  4. McInnes thinks John Collins has a lot to say ‘for an assistant manager’.

Think most people would hold John’s position in higher esteem than manger of Aberdeen.

  5. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

I would quite happily settle for the level of performances of our first two League games, if it meant that we were bedding in a non gung ho attacking formula, designed not to leave us exposed when we come up against the type teams to which John Collins alluded.

We are not at a level where we can play one style at home and a completely different one for Europe.

That was the rock where previous managers’ aspirations foundered.

*excellent oul yin, cannae really remember Joe Haverty though. Thank God there was no CQN back in that day as Chopper skied the penalty over the bar. Didnae mention the wee mhan getting sent aff that day or the controversial “goal that never was” in the LC Final. Clever photo shopping saw Ritchie clawing the ball back before it crossed the line, or did he.

  9. Good Afternoon.

I see Derek McInnes has been sounding off about John Collins. All because Collins said Celtic face more of a challenge in Europe than domestically, where the players are less ‘clever, and quick-witted.

McInnes might have a leg to stand on had he not said something very similar a few weeks ago. As I explain here!

I am aware that not everything can be done over the phone, but only had a phone wait for 10 minutes to obtain activation of ST for the Malmo game.

SAINT STIVS on 9TH AUGUST 2015 10:14 PM

    Nostalgia alert.

Most of us on here seem to be of a certain vintage.

Earlier this year I managed to purchase an authentic, original, Celtic view from the week I was born, reporting on the match of that very day in 1966.

I searched for this on and off for a few years. Hens teeth an awe that.

If anyone is interested, the seller on eBay has posted a few hundred views from 1966 to 1975.

A couple from 1967 as well.

My view is the best, cheap , wee present I ever bought myself, its a great partisan read, and historical read.

Even browsing for them is reminding me of so many early matches I went to.

    Search,

The Celtic view newspaper on eBay.

    Seller is bobwin1305.

  12. Apologies if posted (last week?) but I’ve been away eating gelato and that slows my typing down considerably.

    Who would have thought it?

I can exclusively confirm that the account @exposingphil is a MSM sports journalist working as a sports editor for a daily newspaper.

  14. “The Celtic Song” by Glen Daly was featured in the US television programme, ‘Lost’ Season 3 – episode 17″

    Bsr,

Have you not seen it? The clip is doing the rounds in YouTube. The character is Desmond. He’s a mad Tim and blazed on ‘monks wine’ as he sings :)))

We get another mention in the same series. His wumin mentions us winning the cup in 85 or somert.

  15. You have to wonder why Celtic fans who have season tickets are physically queuing for hours at CP ticket office for their own already reserved ticket.

That is only until you try and buy your reserved ticket online where the cyber queue is even worser.

    100% correct !!!!!!!

The difference qualification to CL would make this year cannot be underestimated – it could set us up for the next three years, even if we don’t qualify again, in that time-frame.

If we can’t change the league we play in – then we MUST change the way that we play in it.

  17. Bsr,

He’s the best character on it. :)

There’s a funny clip of him singing with some blue nose posting subtitles of his despair at finding out his fav character is wan o us.

‘Desmond Hume celtic’ should get you there neebs.

  19. Anybody who ‘doesnt miss a home game’ who isn’t on the home cup ticket scheme is ofishaly menthol!! Fact :)

  20. Greenpinata

Gave up on the phone, moved from 14 in the queue to 11 …………. too slowly.

Was fed up being told Hoopy The Huddlehound was going to be there, and listening to adverts

for the Ross County game that we’ve already played.

There is a physical queue for a reason, I guess.

  21. Tweet from SPFL transfer news reporting Javier Hernandez has spoken to Celtic in relation to a loan move if we qualify for CL

  22. Does it really matter what Mc Innes,Jackie, etc say?.We all know the SMSM pack were onto them all as soon as the press conference opened. We can all imagine how it went.Nothing about their games, only what JC had said. Our management, players have been the subject of the same dross.Anything to have a pop at Celtic.

If the “Warbmeister “had said the same, our hacks would be treating it as a revelation.Telling us all what a visionary he is.Just laugh at them. Our record last year, and already beginning this season, says it all.17 goals lost in 38 games.None from 2 this term. How can anyone argue with these facts?.

  23. We have good reason to believe Celtic have spoken to #Hernandez this week and agreed he will sign if #Celtic… fb.me/3eTn7gXSI
