Space indicates why Moussa scores so many against Newco

444

I read Kenny Shiels’ comments that Newco’s Barrie McKay was better than James Forrest and Patrick Roberts, making me curious about McKay’s contract. The midfielder’s deal expires in 18 months, but when announcing his contract signing, Newco were unusually frank about their newco status:

“The winger has played a total of 78 times for Rangers, after making his first start in July 2012 against Brechin City at the age of 17.”

Before going onto explain in the same article that “The pacey winger made his Rangers debut against St Johnstone in the Light Blues’ last game of the 2011/12 season.”

If you count, that’s two debuts.  For two Rangers.

McKay was clearly Newco’s best player against Celtic, causing problems from the first minute until their challenge ran out of steam. Tying him into a long-term contract will be a priority (or selling him will be).

Yesterday I noted how Kiernan yelled abuse towards Tavernier at Scott Sinclair’s goal at Ibrox, but as this still shows, the entire Newco defence have questions to answer.
2017-01-03-1

There are five defender goal-side of Stuart Armstrong (not counting one on the wing). As the world was about to find out, Sinclair was unattended, but look at the space Moussa Dembele is in! The two central defenders, who will soon claim to be covering him, are five yards away from him. The defensive line isn’t so much a line as a horseshoe.

This is what Moussa scores so many goals against that lot, he doesn’t get this kind of space against any other opponent.

  1. I had the radio news on this morning Radio Scotland and their football man this morning was Brian McLaughlan a Hearts supporter, he was unbelievably negative about the Eboue deal, no experience he said then said he played 6 EL games for his club who have got to the last 32, that is experience in my book, too young at 19 was another as was the fee taking a punt it was called, needs a work permit.

He also said Hearts would be the busiest club in this window, what a clown a 3m pound deal Hearts could only dream about but the BBC only see negatives.

  2. The bosman ruling ensured all clubs are selling clubs

Van Dijk, Hooper, Wanyama and all the others refused to sign new deals. At that point the clock starts ticking towards the end of their deal and their fee decreases.

We are already at this point with Dembele. The guy won’t sign a new deal and he will go. Celtic will hopefully be able to sell him at a suitable time for a suitable amount.

I’d like to see Moussa stay for another full season before helping us qualify for the 2018 UCL. Then he can go on his merry way after making a huge contribution to the club.

  3. Moussa is 6 months into a 4 year deal. He’s very happy and settled at Celtic. When the right move comes up he will go with our best wishes and gratitude. Just enjoy the big man while he is here.

  4. HUNDERBIRDS ARE GONE:

Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus… profitable?

Aye,it’s a difficult balancing act. A four-year contract normally means we’re stuck wi a dud or forced to wave goodbye to a new hero halfway through.

Thankfully there are a few exceptions!

Re Moussa,I genuinely think he and his agent are on message together with a long-term view. He left PSG to get first-team football with Fulham, and then joined us to improve the quality he was playing against.

It was this that brought him to the attention of the big guns like Zidane. And gave him his chance at U-21 level. 4 goals in 4 games

Player of the Year in France at that level as widely reported in the SMSM…

Point is,at the end of NEXT season,Moussa Demele will still only be 21. Will he decide with his agent that he is ready to move, maybe as a bit-player at a huge club-or stay and learn with game time?

And how do Celtic deal with a rapidly-depreciating asset who won’t sign an extended contract which could see us £40m or so better off?

Btw,I’m hoping to get some good news about funds for your orphanage in the next few days. Nightmare as it was due to red tape crap,I haven’t forgotten.

All thanks to another CQNer whose kind and undeserved gift gave me a workable thought, for once.

Hope yeraw fine and dandy in sunny Oz.

Honestly, if I was his agent I’d be talking to Southampton. He’d get a better wage than Celtic could play, EPL experience and Southampton are willing to pay a fair price for our players.

You are right though…. he’d be better of staying here than sitting on the bench for Manchester City. He’s been wise enough so far in his career moves. We’ll see.

Difficult reading, that. I’m not sure I’d fancy being so vocal in my criticism of Rangers-and I’ve spent many a time in the company of such as he describes.

Strangely, the article is impossible to c&p on my iPad.

    Yep. All correct.

    IMO,of course…

Now,I personally think that any previous salary cap at Celtic Park was cancelled as part of Brendan Rodgers agreeing to come here. Otherwise,I doubt we would have Scott Sinclair and Kolo Toure.

So do Celtic offer Moussa an extended contract in the summer on similar wages as Scott, giving us another two years to get the fee maxed? Possibly with an inducement to the player. Or is it another two-year wonder?

I think we should invite him to Lisbon in May,we would never get rid of him after that!

Koussi Eboue in Glasgow now to undergo his medical. Love it how no one in the media knew of this move, looks a powerful midfielder! HH

  11. Re John James – I like his work. Don’t know if he lurks or posts on here but if so, JJ – if the threats etc are real and caused you to up sticks to the Far East, why not go public and expose the culprits? Sometimes hiding in plain sight is better than moving away. They clearly know who you and yours are.

I reckon you’d get a helluva lot of protection from Celtic minded people and decent society, probably a lot of decent minded bluenoses too.

It’s incredible really. Those who have systematically stripped down and bankrupted RFC and TRIFC, who line their own pockets, who are putting the new entity at risk and are negligent regarding the safety of fans, get to live quite happily. Those who expose them are threatened and castigated to the ends of the earth.

Aye,indeed. I said similar a couple weeks ago.

Everyone knows there are questions to be asked about the whole Rangers fiasco, and complicity to pretend it never happened.

Everyone knows where to find the answers too.

Ignore the question, shrug off the answer and yeeha it never happened.

    Magic,innit?

  17. Bobby:

Just tonight, not a few hours ago, I was accused of being selfish for spending my money on toilets for orphans outside of this country. The person who accused me have not – to the best of my knowledge – ever given a charitable penny to any charity or deserving demographic in their life.

I’m a wee bit shy of asking help of others for those orphans until I personally go back there.

Until then, nothing has changed other than my heart gets more calloused and my will sometimes just seeps away and I get angry.
