That’s all folks!

The defence has seen most additions. Jozo Simunovic, Saidy Janko and Dedryck Boyata arrived, with Tyler Blackett on loan from Manchester United. Belgian, Logan Bailly, came in as our backup keeper after a decent career in Belgium, Germany and Switzerland.

Two attacking midfielders were signed: Scott Allan, who has made a couple of cameo appearances, and Ryan Christie, who will further gestate in Inverness until the end of the season.

Nadir Ciftci was the manager’s primary striking target, and although he arrived early in the window, his start has been hampered by a six game domestic ban, while the Champions League qualifiers arrived too early for him. A lot of store is being placed on his and Leigh Griffiths’ shoulders.

Will they be stronger than the Griffiths, Scepovic, Guidetti offering of last season? Will they be good enough for the challenge ahead? Place your bets ladies and gentlemen (and opposed to send me inappropriately emotional messages).

I read lots of comment about Steven Fletcher or and Michu potentially coming to Celtic over the last few days. They were players who Celtic enquired about earlier in the window but neither was interested in coming to Scotland. They are in the league they want to play in, we were not remotely on their radar.

Oh, and the van Dijk deal was for £13m, not the £11.5m reported earlier. Think we might have some Fraser/Victor reflected value in this deal.

That’s all folks!

Absolutely nail on the head my friend, it always amazes me the posters who want to spend, spend, spend, even though they state they don’t go to the football. A bit like the GASL who wants to spend OPM.

If they were running a business, lets say a Baker’s do you think they would hire Mr Kipling at £40,000 a week because he is a proven top Baker, even though the most you could take in potentially in a week was £25,000.

    Don’t think so.

Perhaps these guys should be following that New Club from Glasgow, Sevco. Who are destined to Die the same as the old team who played out of that ground.

Who died because they did not know how to look after money. I digress a lot but once again you are spot on.

We are a support divided we didnt make the group stages of the CL which I accept was very disappointing but the whole Celtic organisation must take the blame as at one time 2-0 up against Malmo it was in the palm of our hands. We are now in an exciting Europa League group where we will be tested we are top of the SPL and have a big match away from home against our main challengers Aberdeen and we are still in the league cup and Scottish cup.We have a squad of very young players many of them Scottish who can be improved as players as time goes bye we have the Scottish player of the year and the young Scottish player of the year and the Championship player of the year on our books so why so many can only see doom and gloom at Celtic makes me think they are not being realistic in there expectations and they should understand our true position in football is not at the very top of European football we dont have the cash for that but we are a very successful Scottish football club who now and again will shock one of the European big guns. H.H.

  7. Kingoh,

Quite possibly if Aberdeen had won their last 4 and beaten us every time we met there’s a very good chance they would have won the league

    But it’s a remarkable leap.

Auntie’s and baws spring to mind.

It’s also worth noting that the 4 teams who took points off the dons in the final 4 games done likewise throughout the season.

Aberdeen took 15 points (I think) out of a possible 48 off their run in opponents, and we’re also knocked out both cups by two of them.

I think there was a very good chance Aberdeen were simply beaten by the better teams on the days

  8. All you bhoys that want ronny sacked ,who would you like to replace him,and the man is entitled to have a holiday, but for some on here he is on the verge of resigning, coaches and players are in a no win situation with alot on here, big cifiti has hardly kicked a ball for us ,yet he is branded as a dud,but i cant blame some for thinking that, regarding some of the players we have signed, but for me the blame lies squarly with all the scouts, who recomend these players, and i see steve frail has quit as the under 20s manager,i wonder why

  9. Are Rangers going to be put out of the game and be properly investigated?

Is ibrox going to be closed during these investions?

Will ‘all’ trophies won by Rangers FC during the David Murray era be confiscated / deleted?

Will the ebt-geezers be forced to pay back the loans to the creditors?

Will the Celtic hierarchy demand that, the CL-money-pots from 2009/10/11 be redirected to Celtic FC…if not…why not?

Will the Celtic hierarchy, be afraid to ask for the CL-money-pots as, it’ll reveal their ‘collusion’ with their O## F### rivals during that time?

If, none of the above happens…why do the majority of CQNer’s allow themselves to be consumed / side-tracked by Sevco-smoke-screens…conveniently dropped at transfer window time?

TIMBHOY3. For myself I believe Ronny needs and deserves another 12 months if we dont qualify next season for the CL proper then it would be time to consider his position. However,he is building a new team at Celtic and deserves time for it to bed in So back Ronny dont sack Ronny is my mantra. H.H.

“Quite possibly if Aberdeen had won their last 4 and beaten us every time we met there’s a very good chance they would have won the league

    But it’s a remarkable leap.”

Indeed it is! As I never said anything of the sort or even suggested it, a remarkable leap indeed. Up to the point the league was competitive Aberdeen had matched our points haul. They may well have lost those games you mention even if still in with a chance of winning the league, who knows? My suggestion was that results in games after the title was decided should be viewed with caution. I think we deserved to win the league last year but just by the 12 points we picked up against them.

If you think we looked like a team 17 points better off than Aberdeen then fair enough. I think the gap is closer than that and if Aberdeen can sustain their form against the other 10 teams ( as they have started off this season doing) and improve their record against us then they will again run us close.

Obviously, like many, you thought it was easy last season and will be again. Fair enough.

  13. A comment on the Etims diary page nails it. “navel gazing, surrender monkeys on CQN “. Yet again the same people trot out the same rubbish about PL and DD running Celtic either into the ground or for their own personal profit.

Virgil had never made any secret of his desire to play in England, the same as Victor, Fraser and Gary. Unfortunately it seems press statements from players are only to be believed when they criticise Celtic and or Peter Lawell. Every one of those players stated Celtic tried to keep them but they felt it was time to go.

But hey guys don’t let the truth get in the way of some world class s#@t stirring.

Now we are doomed to “mid table mediocrity” because we didn’t sign a replacement for Stefan Scepovic. Good God if it wasn’t so laughable you would weep. I am an unreconstructed “board sheep” and proud of it. I supported Celtic all through the tough times of the 90’s so I am enjoying the current high of four going on five in a row. Of course there are things that could be done better, on the other hand things could be a lot worse.

I make no claims to be a better or worse supporter than anyone else I just claim to be a supporter. I do suspect that some on this forum post what they do to deliberately ferment trouble and supporting Celtic is far from their main priority.

  14. So the police have been questioning the Ibrox manipulators to create smoke screens at the transfer window time? Really ??

Personally delighted to see us investing in young local talent rather than the false promise of the past of foreign world beaters. Fancy sales men known as Agents pushing there ware was always more risky in my opinion. Keep your options open but I like the policy.

  15. Lions roar , excellent stuff! It’s chucking it down here in Barca, hopefully clear up later so I can get some last day sunshine. The upside was that my run this morning was done in classic Scottish rain, so that is fair enough.

Will Craig White now play his cards? Seems like Charlie did not hide his stash quick enough, hilarious!

All do know is that the Manky Mob will remain unpunished, unless you consider being them punishment enough.

  16. Oh I see….its blame the supporters that are unhappy.

Its all our fault for complaining.

Usual insults and worse….coming from the “good fans”

Now…its even been suggested to make the site subscription based….what a surprise from the “elite” supporters….who are falling over each other to slate the “bad supporters”.

Sanctimonious clap trap from the usual suspects.

Yeah…make the blog exclusive….then nobody can disagree with you.

    Pathetic bs.

Trying to create a division on the blog.

Stamping your wee feet like infants…because those “bad” Celtic fans are slating the “Blessed Peter”.

  19. Jamesgang

Agree re Boyata and Ciftci, in fact with a lot more data to go on Boyata I’m starting to become worried that his struggles with possession of the ball might just be a lack of quality rather than a settling in period, let’s hope

    not.

Christie spoke very well yesterday and great to see another lad from the GMS school of ‘I’ve joined Celtic and I literally cannot stop smiling at the prospect’

On the wider point of the increasingly hostile reaction from the support, it can only end up having a negative effect on the players, and will start to become a self fulfilling prophecy.

We need a big support in the EL group games. Despite the scumbag nature of 2 of the team’s fans, it’s a fantastic draw football wise .

Most people’s perfect season this year would have been qualifying for CL, scraping 3rd in the group and having a decent crack at the EL post Christmas – and if you could throw in a treble fantastic. OK we’ve lost the CL money, and I was as gutted as anyone seeing Malmo draw Madrid and PSG, but we still have a real chance at having a season to remember.

Unfortunately it seems at least half the people on here have checked out of this idea. Some might be happy in a warped way to be proved right by the team ultimately failing, but I’m still going to go down the route of supporting the team and seeing how we get on.

  20. Etims a bit over the top comparing Ronny to Brian Clough! Still optimism seeping back as the Malmo hangover clears!

  29. I heard he was dead on

See all this talk of Aberdeen being so great here are a few points –

    1. It’s debatable how many of their players would get in our team.

Rooney? Is he really better than Griffiths? Or Ciftci or Stokes? Similar records at other SPFL clubs.

McGinn – not good enough for Celtic

Hayes? Better than GMS or Forrest or Armstrong?

    Pawlett – ditto

Jack? Better than Brown or Biton or Allan or Johansen?

McLean – scoring a lot of goals at this moment. Scored none last season. Him or Armstrong?

How many of their defenders would you take? NONE

    Their keepers? Neither

    2. Who wanted their players if they are so good?

3.Aberdeen and Hearts will take points off each other.

    4. Hamilton are a dark horse in the league

    5. They didn’t lay a glove on Celtic last season with all those players.

    6. Aberdeen’s record vs East coast teams last season was as detrimental to their title aspirations as their defeats to Celtic. Draws and defeats in Dundee and Perth in particular done for them.

7.Went out of Europe at home to a team playing with body clocks set at 2am.

REALLY? THIS IS WHAT WE SHOULD BE FRIGHTENED OF?

They might win the upcoming game but they might not. It’s very early in the season and Celtic have the squad and the finance to smack them down in January as a last resort if it even gets that far.

  30. Just read back , deary me!!!!

Never read so much garbage on this site , people getting called all manner of things for wanting to support the team , now I wont ell you that I am over the moon with the transfer window but some of the stuff on here is ridiculous .

I will not be told by so called supporters when to go and watch my team , and if that makes me a faithful through and through member so be it . I know most of the guys on here only want what is best for the team , however there is now a growing amount of people on here who obviously don’t get much enjoyment out of following the team , which is reflected in the current attendances . That is their choice , me I will continue to support them at every opportunity and take great delight in doing so .
