1254125, transfer selling and sell out books

613

Thank you to everyone who participated in our auction for the Lionel Messi signed shirt, which raised £1020 when it closed this morning, a clear £20 more than the Celtic top signed by the Seville squad, which closed a few days earlier, you are a credit to the club.  Our summer fundraising for the 1254125 campaign and other good causes is off to an excellent start.

We have seven weeks until our first Champions League qualifying game but the qualifying rounds do not end for a full 12 weeks.  These timescales will determine how seriously Celtic take interest in our star players.  Right now, there will be little attention to these matters.

With a couple of new contract offers unsigned after 8 months, I expect Celtic will have a sale valuation in mind, but business is often done in the final days of the transfer window, and until then, efforts will continue to re-sign players.  Celtic are in the fortunate position of not having to accept an offer to keep the lights on, so if valuations are not met, as was the case with Gary Hooper in January, we can afford to let players leave for nothing.

Willie Wallace’s autobiography, Heart of a Lion, sold out initial stock at the mail-order fulfilment centre and several retail stores last week.  The fulfilment centre is now back in stock, all orders should be shipped and with you in a couple of days.

    Say ——- Victor Wanyama.

Inter are interested in Victor Wanyama but only if they fail to sign Behrami from Napoli .

Napoli were interested in Wanyama -they saw him as a replacement for Behrami.

Guy who was the Manager of Napoli is now the Manager of Inter ..

Speculation is that if Inter get Behrami , Napoli might want Wanyama…

The hype merchants claim that Wanyama will go to Arsenal

if we sell Vic for £10m we only get £8m, he has a 20% sell on already, we would be better at CIRCA £15/20M if its any less Id keep him for CL or try a sell but keep for a year if poss, the likes of Arsenal might be up for that as it gives him another year at CL games & more experience? he might not be an immediate 1st team player for them.

C1st -did you see the item in the papers about Alfredo di Stefano’s family not wanting him to marry his 36 year old Costa Rican fiancee?

It sounds like the Blond Arrow has also decided life is short and he deserves a wee treat.

  4. Anyone else leave paradise apart from rogne that i may have missed ?

Cant believe vic has been linked from everyone like stoke, newcastle to inter and arsenal. Would not sell him for less than 15m.

If big clubs want a player they will pay whatever, look at downey, carroll, allen at lpool. Walcott, chanberlen at arsenal.

forgot to add obviously if we got to keep vic for another year he would probably be worth more to us so if any team bought him now & left him with us for a year to develop we wouldn’t get the big bucks, but he would be invaluable to us in CL this season?

All the books sent out have Willie’s signature on them.

Re Alex Byrne— from what I know he was a good ball player.

I know quite a lot of folk who played for Celtic but who only made a few first team appearances for whatever reason.

Some made it elsewhere, some left football at a senior level altogether to pursue other careers, some played part time, some played junior—– but at one time or another they wore the hoops even briefly.

Whenever I hear anyone highlight an alleged weakness that any of these players had, or proffer a reason why they didn’t progress or were let go or whatever the same thought always goes through my mind.

These guys were asked to wear the hoops— they were offered a job playing football for our club and so someone at the time thought they were worth that honour.

There are not too many who can say that.

I would have loved to have been asked to play for Celtic– even once.

  9. 'crushed nuts?' 'Naw, Layringitis!' on

Real Madrid have sounded out the best, oldest, young manager currently plying his trade in the prestigious 2nd division of the Scottish football league. Alistair McCoist, the name at the top of European Football’s elite clubs most wanted list, took a break from training with his elite squad of the most desirable football talent ever assembled to say “Obviously, I wasn’t surprised to hear that I’m being considered but, to be honest, I have a big job to do here. Now that Walter’s back to tell me who to sign, who to play, how to play, what to say to the press, what to eat, when to go to the toilet and when to go to bed, I feel that l can honestly, obviously win the Ramsdens Cup. As for the league, Walter has made some good signings: there’s Clarky, Peraltaty, Dalyly and loads of other guys I’ve never heard of. As long as the fans dig deep and give us their hard earned cash I can honestly say that as a long-standing shareholder I will be laughing all the way to the bank!”

    Alex Byrne ?

One of the drawbacks of being a teenager in the 60s is that I struggle to remember what primary school me did in the 50s .

I know that I saw Alex Byrne because I know I went during the years he was playing . I remember that my old man thought he was a very good player I do remember Alex Byrne scoring a very good goal at Tynecastle in the late 50s . My memory says Celtic lost 5-3.. Think the reason I remember it was the game was a Friday night and I had to meet my father outside his work and then walk to Queen Street to catch a train to Edinburgh . The remarkable thing from today’s perspective is that an 8/9 year me was allowed by my parents to walk[on my own ] from Queens Cross to the centre of Glasgow in order to meet my father . Changed days.

…. Willie Fernie, I wouldn’t say he shirked tackles.

    ————————————————————————

I agree, Willie Fernie was one of my favourite players in the late fifties/early sixties, he was just so perceptive, fast and agile enough to avoid/evade the tackles which he saw were coming his way

  14. Birthday greetings to Alex Byrne.

As probably one of the few on here to have seen him play for Celtic, I wish him a happy day.

Alex was a graceful and stylish winger, with a deceptive swerve, that often left opponents flat footed.ing

On occasion, he would play through the middle and it was in this position that he would regularly demoralise Big Doug Baillie.

Baillie was a towering, lumbering centre half, who began his career with Airdriem then went over to Ibrox and ultimately, Falkirk.

Alex took him to the cleaners every time they met, through quick nimble feet and deceptive body swerve.

Incidentally, Doug’s son, Lex, played for Celtic, once in a victory over the defunct rivals.

By that time, Baillie was writing for the Sunday Post and in his match report, he spoke of the pride in his son for his performance in the Celtic victory.

A big man, who played the game fairly.

But Alex Byrne was his “daddy”.

  15. Lex Baillie.

    Lex Richardson.

    Lex Gould.

    Lex Luther.

None of the current generation of Alexanders appear to opt for the ‘Lex’ moniker. Or Sandy for that matter.

    Just sayin’.

  20. Good evening/morning CQN.

A few weeks ago I had a biopsy on my prostate as a result of a raised PSA count.

This morning my partner accompanied me to see the consultant for the results.

    It wasn’t good.

I have prostate cancer and the indications are that it is the high-risk, aggressive version.

You could have knocked me over with a feather.

My options are either surgery to remove the prostate or 7 weeks of daily radiology.

The choice will depend on the results of 3 scans. I have to have CT, MRI and bone scans. There is a real danger that my cancer has moved beyond the prostate and if so, it is incurable.

If it is confined to the prostate, all well and good and it can be cured.

I will find out in the next week or two.

Doing nothing – quite common in slow prostate cancers – is not an option according to the urologist.

So, it looks like old GCT has a fight on his hands.

I know there are one or two CQNers in the middle of their own fights with cancer and I have been moved by their accounts of their own personal battles. I just never thought I would be posting a similar type of comment on CQN.

Prostate cancer is insidious in that generally there are no symptoms. I have been feeling well and have been looking after myself. So much so that even going through the biopsy and waiting for the results, I was very optimistic. I put the raised PSA down to age. I am 60 in September.

    How wrong I was.

I can only hope and pray that it hasn’t spread and that I can beat this thing.

    Thanks and . . .

    Hail Hail
