15-0 for Celtic in cups, marking Brendan’s card on 3 cup finals

401

One for the historians, has any team won the Scottish and League Cups in the same season without conceding a goal? So far this season, Celtic are 15 goals without reply in the cup competitions, with a possible three fixtures remaining, the first of which is at Celtic Park against St Mirren three weeks from now.

Brendan Rodgers described the remaining Scottish Cup games as “three cup finals”. I’ll mark his card, there is only one cup final to worry about and that’s the game against St Mirren. Plan beyond that and you risk a slip.

Lesser teams than them have eliminated us from cups in recent seasons, and the Paisley club have dumped us out twice recently. Any Celtic fan who has considered the possibility of a treble before will know how this story often ends too well.

There are various ways to reach the top of the managerial pyramid.  Accounts is the most common path, join the finance team and you get an oversight on most important areas.  Legal is another fertile field to progress to the top from.

Some technical people make it, especially in retail or engineering.  Few get there from marketing, HR or IT.  No one gets there from public relations, that’s a departmental dead end.

Of course, a PR monkey can hope to become the de facto decision maker, with his/her hands on all the necessary levers.  I can think of only one case like this.  The company/club concerned have not had a good week.  They’ve not even had good PR.

Blane Valley / Bearsden and Milngavie areas

As most fans will be aware, Glasgow City Council are introducing parking restrictions within 1 mile of Celtic park from August.  A group of Celtic supporters in the Blane Valley / Bearsden and Milngavie area are trying to organise a supporters bus that will go from the villages in the area (Drymen, Balfron, Buchlivie, Killearn, Blanefield and Milngavie/Bearsden).

If you would be interested in travelling to / from Celtic Park on a supporters bus from next season can you drop an email to BlanevalleyCSC@hotmail.com, with your name.

Thumbs up for that Timmy-take on the local omnishambles.

    He didnae miss much,did he?

  2. Ashley has a better chance of reaching cl football with Sevco than he has with Newcastle . The new club have only celtic to beat to attain that . Newcastle will never get to the heights of challenging for European football , and besides Sevco have a far larger support base .

Well, just read the same thing on the Celtic website. 115-118 were occupied by Sevco Scotland supporters, smashed up the toilets and will not be getting tickets for that area and the area above it. So, if VFR800 has read it wrong then so have I. Maybe it’s the schoolteachers to blame.

I would say though that £50-100M invested in a Dutch/Belgian/Portuguese club would bring as good a chance and a quicker return.

I think it’s that those who sit in the sections identified are now being offered the opportunity to buy tickets in other areas of the stadium for this game because their usual seats are occupied by the monkeys for this game.

Smuggled to CP when Rangers were out the country.

He and Hooky McBride in tandem would have been a sight to see.

I’m all for new supporters clubs, do not know if Celtic actually encourages them, if not then they should. Paul you write as if the new parking restrictions on match days have actually been implemented, and yet only a week or so back Celtic FC stated that they were against the GCC proposals and would make presentation during the consultancy period. Has that process been completed?

I’m going with HT. If you’re a Special ST holder you don’t normally get to this game. They have now been given the chance on 1st come basis to buy a seat elsewhere in the stadium. It doesn’t say they can get their own seat, just a seat.

  14. Just saw the trophies that shall be up for grabs at the Aberdour CQN Golf Tournament, I’ll try and take a couple of snaps to put on CQN,but they’re marvellous, dedicated to the Lisbon Lions, All their names are on trophies, worth getting one as a keepsake.

  15. HT

I did not realise that CP would be able to accomodate Special season book holders from these areas in other parts of the ground, like others have said it looks to me like they will be able to buy a seat in the area where they sat and wrecked the place.

  16. DESSYBHOY on 13TH FEBRUARY 2017 3:30 PM

It’s doesn’t say every Special ST holder will be accommodated. Only that they’re now eligible to purchase a seat on a 1st come basis.

  17. Dessybhoy

Not every season ticket holder is guaranteed a ticket for the game against them, my daughter for example. If I hadn’t chosen to take her ticket it could/would have been offered by Celtic to one of those now referred to.

  18. VFR800 is now a Monster 821 on

Hot Smoked, not sure but probably arisen 5k. I’ll check.

BSR, WEE MINGER, HT I was advised on Friday that this was under consideration. My own thoughts are that the events of Friday night may have persuaded Celtic that they didn’t want to be under writing the 3 amigos walking away (sic).

Will they reciprocate? Two things lead me to say no. Firstly, it’s a Security consideration from Police Scotland if we are placed alongside them. Secondly, I doubt they would sell all the tickets for any possible 4th game with them. They don’t want to watch a team who will be around 40 points clear beating them again.

If it’s the case that those sections are open to Special ST holders to buy their own seats then the club have made a hash of the wording, because that’s not what it says.

“TICKETS are on sale now for Special Season Ticket holders looking to secure a seat to see the champions take on Rangers at Celtic Park on Sunday, March 12 (KO: 12 noon).

Eligible supporters include those with Special Season Tickets in areas 115 to 118 in the Lower Tier of the Lisbon Lions Stand and Special Season Tickets in 416 to 419 in the Upper Tier of the Lisbon Lions Stand.”

    My emphasis on “a”.

  20. Hamiltontim,

You mentioned a Parish Priest earlier today (sorry I have been out all day and can’t remember exactly when). Would that have been Fr Joe Sullivan in Croy? If so, his fellow East Ender who had to go down to Largs because of his health (he should know who) was asking after him.

  21. Weeminger

That is eight sections. Do we have eight sections worth of unsold seats around Celtic Park to enable those guys to secure a seat?

No, and apologies I didn’t add the other part.

“Tickets are available on a first come, first served basis priced:

    Adults – £49

    Students/65+ – £40

    Concessions – £30

Subject to availability, the deadline for Special Season Ticket holders to purchase tickets for the match is 5pm on Wednesday, February 15. One per client reference number.”
