Aberdeen look to cap top team in 25 years

1164

Really looking forward to tomorrow.  Aberdeen are no flash-in-the-pan, they are as strong a non-Glasgow team as there has been in 25 years, having built on foundations laid last season.  They arrive at Celtic Park having won there last season, and after two narrow defeats to Celtic this season, which has cost them a place at the top of the league.

Ronny Deila will have an enormous job to pick his players up after the disappointment of Thursday night, but that’s what champions do.

I know we’ve got a few foodies here, so check out The Foodies Guide to Glasgow and the West, by Fraser Wilson.  Proceeds from the book go to Mary’s Meals, which goes a long way towards alleviating poverty.

If you are from or near Dundee…….

There’s a charity dinner to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Brother Walfrid, in the East Chamber, Dundee, on Friday 17 April.   Proceeds from the night will go towards helping three-year-old Oliver Bosch, who was born without auditory nerves.

The evening will have an Irish theme, with an Irish menu, music and song and the Lochee School of Irish Dancing will give a display of traditional Irish dancing.  For tickets contact joe.carroll1948@yahoo.co.uk

Anton works and lives in Oxford, just up the road from me.

    Lived the dream,won THAT double.

Wore not only The Hooooops, but also THAT shirt. The Celtic Cross.

I’ll bet his heart burst every time he pulled that over his head.

  2. I was at a few of the 8-0, 9-0 games up in Aberdeen back in the early 2000’s? I remember one game when I couldn’t get a ticket for the Celtic end and I ended up in the Aberdeen support. It was quite a right game, I think that Robbie Winters scored early on and Celtic were pressing for a draw/win (can’t remember which) and Larsson scored with a header from around 18 yards out. I leapt out my seat and shouted ‘YA DANCER’ and then realised where I was. I was lucky that it was right at the end of the game.. I managed to get out alive.

Roy Croppie, great photo you posted at 20.01.

Hopefully our support show as much colour as they did in the photo.

Two of my favourite games against the Dons at Celtic Park are when we beat them 4 1 at Celtic Park the W ednesday after wining the league at Easter Road the prvious Saturday. It was the only time we beat them in the five games we played them in the 76/77 season.

The other was in February 1985 when we beat then 2 nil, with the Bear and Paul McStay scoring. Neale ‘Harpo Marx’ Cooper’s reaction when we got a penalty for our second goal was hilarious. He was behaving like a spoilt kid and was nearly greeting after the ref pointed to the spot.

You must be form the posh parts, Gerry:-). Blairhill or thereabouts !

Columba’s ash park was – even by the standard of other ash parks – a shocker. It lacked ash.

That’s as bleak a criticism as I can possibly make. No wonder we were shite for decades at international level. Developing players learning to pay on an ash park with a fecking mould-master ball. Jesus.

What boys guild team did you play for.? We may have crossed swords back in the day. Played with St James, St Monica’s and All saints at various times in the early to mid 80’s myself……..

we has some great tussles with them in the ’70’s and ’80’s in particular. I remember Cooper taking Charlie out at the kick-off at Pittodrie. Obviously under instruction.

It is good to see Tony Watt scoring twice today and getting good reports about the bhoy I hope he is now settling down and he turns out to be the striker I once thought he could be at Celtic. H.H.

    Two concerns about tomorrow.

    1) Howling wind and rain

    2) A red card for either team

    Either could spoil the spectacle.

  20. If Auldheid reckons something is up with EUFA and the MSM then something is up. The amount of times Celtic have been pulled up is obviously being stoked from somewhere. I also agree with other posters that if reporters from wherever are persueing an agenda then pull them up for it. BBC Scotland are a disgrace and should have their access denied. After all, how long is it since the Norwegian Blues barred them from Snake Mountain? It didn’t do the any harm. If anything, they were rewarded for it. Celtic must use the weapons they have. They are not going to get any modicum of fairness otherwise.

Your status as a living legend was merely amplified on that night. Everything was just so outstanding.

To hear you saying -I’m not a drinker-and necking the black stuff will live for a long time.

Strangely,I struggle to remember much apart from that. Selective amnesia is a blessing, you know!
