Aberdeen look to cap top team in 25 years

1164

Really looking forward to tomorrow.  Aberdeen are no flash-in-the-pan, they are as strong a non-Glasgow team as there has been in 25 years, having built on foundations laid last season.  They arrive at Celtic Park having won there last season, and after two narrow defeats to Celtic this season, which has cost them a place at the top of the league.

Ronny Deila will have an enormous job to pick his players up after the disappointment of Thursday night, but that’s what champions do.

I know we’ve got a few foodies here, so check out The Foodies Guide to Glasgow and the West, by Fraser Wilson.  Proceeds from the book go to Mary’s Meals, which goes a long way towards alleviating poverty.

If you are from or near Dundee…….

There’s a charity dinner to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Brother Walfrid, in the East Chamber, Dundee, on Friday 17 April.   Proceeds from the night will go towards helping three-year-old Oliver Bosch, who was born without auditory nerves.

The evening will have an Irish theme, with an Irish menu, music and song and the Lochee School of Irish Dancing will give a display of traditional Irish dancing.  For tickets contact joe.carroll1948@yahoo.co.uk

The culprits responsible are not daft wee bhoys.

    …..

If you know they are not daft wee bhoys does that mean you know who they are

  3. I stand corrected, Ronny would (will) be, in company with MON, the second manager to win the treble in first season.

Over the Goal – so you want your say, suggesting this and that about Ronny, including the nonsense that a good number of our players’ fitness levels have suffered under Ronny’s regime – if you had been at any games recently you could NOT have come to such a conclusion.

Do NOT ‘warn’ me about my rhetoric, I will express my view in keeping with the letter, and spirit, of the forum’s guidelines – how dare you issue any warnings to anyone.

  4. It’s broadly true that AFC appear to have no players better than Celtic first team but I’d say almost all of their players are better than our projects of late.

Ryan Jack is a player I’d take. Curiously other players like McGinn and Flood have flourished at Pittodrie away from the pressure of Celtic. flood in particular is a player who should have done better with us as he has proved at both DUFC and AfC that he is a player of the season. I have watched him for a couple of seasons and he is a very decent player.

Not so sure your post was the post that I was referring to. Seemed much more strident than that.

Still disagree though. Even voluntarily banning fans is still the Club admitting culpability for the actions of one numpty. Having said that can see the logic in your position I.e that we need to be seen to be doing something about it as the action of that person carries with it the possibility of “frying” someone.

Celtic really have done everything within their power to prevent this sort of behaviour. If only it were the SFA deliberating on this one. HH

We seem to be disproportionately targeted for minor offences while others get away wi blue murder. My thoughts on why-precedent-are a matter of record.

That doesn’t alter the fact that on each occasion since the original trumped up charge,we have been guilty.

I am guilty of being a Celtic fan. And tarred with the same brush as people who have tarnished our name repeatedly. If someone tried the guilt by association crap elsewhere in my life I would put a stop to it.

We are all guilty by association on this. Time to put a halt to it. Swift boot where needed,a promise of more to come, and problem solved.

Not really workable as Celtic aware that away tickets change hands before being presented at the stadium

    Buzzin for the one,

Easily the best Aberdeen side to visit Celtic Park since the halcyon 1980’s, with decades of mismanagement in between. Aberdeen have found a manager? – wouldn’t have been difficult to improve on some.

Derek McInnes has succeeded ( after two spells of mixed fortune in England ) to build a side that can defend. That’s where his strength lies, and Celtic will need no Euro hangovers, that marked the first half against Hamilton.

I expect a tight game, and even if both main srtikers are fit, we lack a lethal goalscorer. Therefore would like Kris Commons restored and fitted into the system along with GMS and SA.

Facinating encounter, and best league game potential at Parkhead since Willie Miller, Eric Black, Doug Rougvie, et all.

  11. Crafty UEFA undercover agents are sent into the crowds to let off flares in order to gain fine money for the organisation. Aye, that must be it. Rumbled.

That dumplin charlie nicholas when talking about arsenal, called them we.

Its annoying that someone who was a celtic supporter Calls a club not as big or good as celtic, as we. His constant criticism of us is way over the top and i can’t work out why.

His allegiance to brian dempsey may have affected his opinion of us but i’m not entirely sure if ithat’s right or not.

Let’s get our job done tomorrow. Good news if the attendance is fifty thousand plus . The dons fans outsinging us in the cup game last season wasn’t good for our team.

    I agree,

Closing the upper tier and totally devaluing the cup game for Celtic fans was an own goal, that gave Aberdeen and their noisy support the upper hand.

Not a Celtic song was raised.

It’s Asterisk. Play on words. Very clever books which were hidden in the kid’s section of the library.

Late 90s I used to pick my nephew up from school take him to the library. He loved reading.

He got really annoyed when I put the Asterisk books into his bag. Tough, his uncle loved them.

  19. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Bourne, sorry about my last posting.

I meant to say he told me they will be loud tomorrow to hopefully drown out the northern neds/woolly huns .

That cup game last season still rankles me. The ticket pricing could have been better, our home scottish cup record against the dons in the last fifty fours is rotten and we picked

the wrong players plus not bringing another midfielder on when aberdeen started to control the midfield.

  20. Btw I think flares look great and add to the atmosphere. And relative to some other events on Thursday night, they are minor offences.

But that isn’t the point. The point is by my calculations we have been fined £150820 since 2007. Or 377 season tickets(based on a price of £400). This is for a myriad of offences, from flares, to banners, to songs.

We can greet about it. We can appeal it. But ultimately the sanctions are likely to increase in spectrum. I’ve been praying for Dortmund or Madrid in the CL for years. If there is even the slightest chance that we end up with no allocation for those games then we should do everything we can to prevent it, as I would never forgive those responsible, or those who make apologies for them. I suspect I’m not alone.

The flares must stop. Hopefully the GB will be more considerate with their banners at home, and the IRA songs should be consigned to the dustbin.

“Surely there are enough Celtic songs without introducing religion or politics or anything else?”

Jock Stein after 1972 game against Stirling when he jumped into the Celtic crowd to stand up to individuals singing sectarian songs

I don’t enjoy these conversations, but some things need said.

From now on just looking forward to a terrific game tomorrow.

  22. “Hunco would have to spend £40m to catch AFC or DUFC”

    Cultsbhoy,

Steady. We haven’t spent that and we are in front of them.

Also to say they have players better than our projects is just daft.

Sure they have players possibly better than our worst projects but they haven’t got anyone close to being as good as our middle to better punts.

  23. There was a smashing wee game of football that went barely noticed last year. 2nd October it was in Prague, where those cheeky chappies from Switzerland , Young Boys travelled to the Czech capital to enjoy a memorable day out.

It was the Europa League – the same competition we were in till Thursday night before some absolute clown destroyed the reputation of Celtic fans throughout the entire Universe by letting off a flare.

Although losing 3-1 to Sparta on the night, the chaps from Berne had a blast apparently and all agreed that, apart from a severe lack of quality dairy stock resulting in below par chocolate, Prague was a right old hoot.

Some of the chaps decided to record their antics, some of which can be viewed in the link below…it’s all the usual stuff…getting to know the locals, singing in the town before-hand, exchanging chants with rival fans, getting flanked by riot police in full riot gear, some with Alsatians, some on horses, batons at the ready. Full escort to the stadium etc, etc. It all goes pleasantly enough.

Run of the mill stuff really, till you get to about 9min 30 seconds in the link.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNTUjI3XDZk

Oh dear, what’s the Swiss for Pussy rioters?

Anyway, that’s not the point. The point is when you look at the next link…

    http://www.uefa.org/disciplinary/#

Because when you scroll down to the disciplinary events in the days following the games played on 2nd October 2014, guess what? Not a mention.

Mibbe the Uefa delegate was away using his Swiss bank account in the ATM at the time. I’m sure it was simply that he never noticed.

Anyway, if they got off scot free, surely it begs the following questions..

    1. Are Uefa sanctioning teams on an uneven basis with no consistency.

    2. Are there some match delegates who turn a blind eye?

    3. If a club takes all precautions and is so successful that only a single person lets off a flare, would this still be recorded as a breach in every instance?

    4. If a journalist goes to a press conference and highlights a single flare, does this leave the delegate with no option but to report?

    5. Are Scottish journalists, in this instance Alisdair Lamont, who clearly have an anti-Celtic agenda, now actively having a material negative impact on Celtic by seeking out breaches to be highlighted that would have been deemed insignificant and gone unreported otherwise? (taking a lead from police match commanders at Celtic games)

  24. Johnnyrambo……………….commentator on Setanta Ireland did say flares were being set off by Milan fans Thursday night.

  25. bournesouprecipe on

I think UEFA’s rules are pretty clear, but also understand Celtic’s basis for appeal.

I doubt there will be any media reaction to an Inter Milan pyro, it’s part of society, as is Celtic’s fight rid us of one, amidst three thousand.

The SMSM tsunami about one rocket with a rocket, is as old as Celtic itself, and it’s got little to do with crowd misbehavior, it fills newspapers and the internet.
