Adversarial statements, what to do with Anthony?

695

Yesterday’s Scottish Cup final was head and shoulders above the insipid FA Cup final at Wembley. Newco scored two excellent goals, including one from our ex-play, Kenny Miller. But it was our current, on-loan, player, Anthony Stokes who decided the encounter.

What should we do with Anthony? His attitude yesterday was magnificent. He decided he was leaving Hampden with a winners medal, and he had the skill, strength and capacity to ensure no one could stop him.

For the first goal he collected on the wing, made a beeline for goal before slotting the ball into the far corner, although he was assisted by the most generous defending since Jersey in June 1940. [Can you believe two defenders stood off him?] Scoring with a header from a corner when your team is a goal down with 10 minutes remaining takes character and determination.

Brendan Rodgers would have been impressed, but it remains to be seen if that attitude can be tapped into day-in, day-out at Lennoxtown.

I watched Motherwell fans invade the Fir Park pitch the Premiership Play-off final last year. On that occasion their actions went beyond mere celebrations, fans were deep into opposition territory, taunting Newco fans behind the goal. To their credit, Newco fans took it on the chin and left the stadium without retaliating.

I can’t imagine what possesses fans of a losing team to invade a field already populated by thousands of celebrating fans. Whatever it is, it’s primitive and unlikely to be a considered reaction. As a result, Newco will be dragged into a disciplinary situation which would otherwise only have effected Hibernian.

What’s worse, the one perennial get out of jail card football clubs often use when fans let them down: “We always criticise and warn fans about this sort of thing”, was fatally undermined by a hasty press release in the minutes after the final whistle.

While every Hibernian person interviewed acknowledged the role of their fans and need for improvement, Newco issued an adversarial statement.  Compliant friends in the media were urged to drop the role of their fans on the field.  Adversarial statements create adversaries, football administrators know this.  Getting strategy wrong isn’t worth a few hours PR.

Rangers finds it incomprehensible that no one, either from within the Scottish FA or Hibernian Football Club, has condemned Hibernian’s supporters following the violent scenes at the end of yesterday’s Scottish Cup final when Rangers players and members of our backroom staff were physically and verbally assaulted. We have not even had the courtesy of any contact whatsoever from Hibernian to ask after the wellbeing of those who were attacked by their club’s supporters.

There must be a full independent investigation into the shameful scenes at Hampden. Rangers is also at a complete loss to understand why certain individuals have hastily attempted to gloss over the appalling events which unfolded at the end of Saturday’s final.

No matter how many times Hibernian’s chairman and Scottish FA vice-chairman, Rod Petrie, and certain other biased commentators wish to play down Saturday’s mayhem and violence, the truth must not be distorted. What unfolded on Saturday cannot and must not be put down to exuberance. That is a complete insult to Rangers, our supporters, and those individuals who were intimidated and attacked.

It was clear to most of those who watched in horror that the Scottish FA’s security procedures failed when Hibernian’s fans went over the top in their thousands. It is to be hoped that all of Scottish football will share Rangers’ disgust and any attempts to attach blame to our supporters for the disgraceful and violent behaviour, which led to our players and fans fearing for their safety, will not be accepted or tolerated by this Club.

We acknowledge that a tiny minority of Rangers fans also encroached on the pitch but only after having been faced with prolonged and severe provocation and in order to protect our players and officials who were being visibly attacked in front of them. Any club’s supporters would have done the same. This distressing and deeply disturbing episode would never have happened had Hibs fans behaved properly but as they swarmed across the pitch it became immediately obvious that the security procedures were inadequate and had failed.

These fans were allowed to rush, unchecked, towards Rangers supporters at the opposite end of the stadium – all the while goading and threatening them. This makes it preposterous to suggest Rangers fans were somehow to blame as some commentators appear anxious to do. This thuggish behaviour must be investigated and as many culprits as possible brought to book and formally charged. This is the second time in a year that Rangers fans have had to endure attacks by another club’s supporters.

It must also be said that it was not at all helpful to see leading members of the Scottish Government, including the First Minister whose parish is Govan, passing comment on social media without any attempt to condemn the behaviour of Hibernian’s fans. These failures are unbecoming of our elected representatives.

Certain media outlets have also attempted to distort reality. In the case of the BBC this is, of course, not news. BBC employees, in particular Stuart Cosgrove, believe Rod Petrie’s comments to be ‘balanced’ and others speak of a ‘minority’ of Hibernian supporters. Another, Tom English, who was not even at the match, would prefer the authorities to focus on Rangers fans’ reaction. We will not endure this insult.

So, let everyone be clear on one thing – Rangers demands that players, staff and fans be protected from the violence and hatred of supporters of other clubs. Rangers fully expects the Scottish FA and Police Scotland to take action to provide our people with a safe environment. When players are unable to accept medals at the end of a final because of fears for their safety and our supporters are alarmed and extremely concerned for the women and children among them, then surely every step must be taken to ensure that this is never repeated.

Looking at the back page of the Irish Sunday life just now when I noticed that they got an interesting picture up. It’s an image of a big lump lying on the ground surrounded by Hibs supporters with a caption below it that reads “A Ragers Supporter on the deck surrounded by Hibs Suporters”. What you will be amazed to know, is that it is that same big C*** that tried to grab that child (shown in the video posted earlier) moments after he got gubbed by the Hibs fan who rescued the weein.

My guesstimation is that if they got an image of him surrounded by Hibs Supporters then surely they much have stills of all actions leading up to that point.

Any mention in the Sevco statement about the guy trying to sneak up a grab the wee Hibs boy ???

Hunt him down, the more I think about it the more it scares me….

  22. Sevco got scalped and were relying on the feel good factor of a first Cup win (not counting the petrol tank cup) and European Football to help sell season books.

They got well and truly spanked and now they have to change the narrative – very quickly, thus two statements in just over 24 hours. It’s all about deflection and trying to get some season book money in. Otherwise some of their fans may start asking some awkward questions about war-chests and front loading investment…

The Zombies seem awfully offended that no one has asked about the welfare of their staff who were allegedly assaulted yesterday.

But yet the Zombies have not provided any details in any of their inciteful statements released since full time yesterday. They make no mention of what individuals were allegedly assaulted, what injuries were allegedly sustained and provide no details of any witnesses or corroborating evidence.

I smell grade A Cato Guntveit here.

Sevco are being run by dangerous idiots who don’t have 2 ha pennies to rub together and so, unable to provide the finance necessary to satisfy the supremacist entitlement of their followers, they have reverted to the lowest denominator – ramp up the “enemies of rangers”, “nobody likes us” etc witchunts.

The presence of “no surrender” Johnston in the directors box yesterday was further indication of this. King, Paul Murray and Johnston, all non exec directors on the Hun board, tasked with scrutinising moonbeams and then whytey when the big hoose went tits up.

The 3 of them are not fit and proper to run a football club by dint of their past involvement with the liquidated rangers.

And with their rabble rousing call to arms statements of incitement they are showing they are not fit and proper from a moral or human decency point of view either.

These clowns are setting Scottish football up to be a bloodbath next season, feeding the same club, Scottish fitba hates us myths. All complete lies but all it takes for your average zombie to feel justified in doling out random violence as the next stage of “the journey” reaches Pittodrie, Celtic park etc

As usual it will be innocent bystanders, the public services and the NHS that bear the brunt of the zombie backlash

That mob calling itself rangers is a complete disgrace on so many levels.

At the very least they should be hammered for :

    1. Sectarian singing at the cup final

    2. Zombies encroaching on field of play at full time

    3. Zombies fighting with hibees and in one instance captured on camera attempting child abduction of a young hibs fan

    4. Repeated inflammatory press releases issued after the game and again tonight

    I won’t hold my breath.

Good old Sevco. It has only taken them 4 years to reach the same depths of scummy vagabondery and entrenched bitterness and hate that it took the former rangers the best part of 100 years to master.
