Agents talk to the media when they are not talking to Celtic

1126

One of the problems of doing your business discretely is that if and when agents or selling clubs publicise your interest in their player, media attention has a tendency to attribute too much focus on the most recent name revealed.  Teemu Pukki is a player Celtic have been trailing for some months but the fact that his agent yesterday revealed their interest is no indication that he enjoys any pre-eminence over others strikers being considered.  If anything, briefings from the agent are an indication of the opposite.

Reports yesterday that Pukki is backup in case a bid for Finnbogason fails are also wide of the mark; this is not the active path Celtic are working on.  There are (at least) two other strikers under consideration, neither of whom have directly or indirectly leaked the discussions.

Nothing sells media adverts like transfer ‘news’, which is fair enough, but news is easier to find than the actual story. This is a ‘no news’ article, the easiest of all. No panicking in the back…

  1. weeron,

    Support? You’re talking about CFC?

So we shouldn’t ask questions about the government of the club?

    Please answer that.

Why has there been nothing said about the theft of c£20M every year RFC played illegally in the CL?

Why are our most organised group of supporters being harassed and intimidated if not BY the Board, at the very least, with their collusion?

Answers on a postcard Mr Positivity please.

Do YOU understand the concept of support? If you’re relating it to going to the pictures, then I get where you’re coming from.

This is a blog …talking shop …a place to air ones concerns …a fantasy place where people adopt personas , pretend etc

    However

Supporting CFC is spending money on tickets, merchandise etc ….and going to games supporting the team …all of which I do

What significance does a comment on a blog by a faceless individual have to the support of the team ?

FFM I did enjoy my walk thanks. ok you are right I didn’t supply any numbers and my estimate will be about as far away as yours. The idea that Celtic are out to screw you and the support just doesn’t sit well with me when we are living in what you would think are very good times for Celtic. Huns gone in our lifetime and the successor club doing a great job of keeping us amused. Neill Lennon winning SPL flags in succession and hitting above our weight in Europe with a last 16 and respect from the Euro elite clubs. Of course I would have been happier if we had kept Wanyama, Hooper and Kelvin W, wouldn’t make us Real Madrid but would have given us hopes for another successful CL group stage. These guys wanted to go mate. The players own choices. The clubs scouts will still be after the first few players on the list. Maybe getting to the CL will be the decider when it comes to players wanting to move to Glasgow. Can’t be many players first choice destination or SPHell league can it . We can only hope that more that come are like Sammy and Stillian and become fans. End of the day you want to have a moan at anything its up to you mate, I will do the same. I am looking forward to another great season for Celtic.

“The clubs scouts will still be after the first few players on the list.” – eh? was their a policy to go after the 2nd on the list??

“We can only hope that more that come are like Sammy and Stillian and become fans” – is that the financial strategy you’re defending?

“End of the day you want to have a moan at anything its up to you mate, I will do the same. I am looking forward to another great season for Celtic.” – you think I’m on to have a moan? You are completely missing the point. And moronic behaviour like that is actually detrimental to the welfare of this club that our grandparents fought for. You “devalue” it in my opinion.

Not helped by the inevitable swagger a group of men develop the more they get away with things.

My ideal vision – get them all to feck, and get fholk in that understand the club the way we do. Balance charity with CL money and player investment. We are one of the few clubs who could actually make that work and lead the way.

Of course, meeja would be definite hurdle. But only once. They’re on their way out. We have the intelligence in us to lead this.

  12. NEIL LENNON insists that he is on the verge of signing the new Gary Hooper.

SunSport revealed exclusively on Friday that Celtic boss Lenny wants Finnish striker Teemu Pukki.

Schalke have already rejected one Hoops bid for Pukki, 23 but Lennon, believes the Finn can replace Norwich hitman Hooper.

Lennon said: “We have put a bid in. Schalke have said they are not willing to sell but these are the barriers you come up against now and again.

“We are working very hard to bring players in.

“We do like Pukki and we think he is a very intelligent player who can make us better. We are still negotiating.

“He is similar to Hooper. He’s got that stocky build. He is maybe not as physical as Gary, but his movement is excellent, as is his first touch. Pukki is a good finisher. I think he will suit our style of play.”

Flesh Lennon watched Pukki play in Finland’s 2-0 win over Slovenia in midweek.

Visa issues mean even if Pukki signed before Monday’s Champions League deadline, there would be no chance he’d play in Kazakhstan.

Lennon added: “I’ve seen him in the flesh now a couple of times.

“Pukki’s an impressive player, but he is not getting much football at Schalke which might work in our benefit.

“He is a team player. A lot of things Finland did went through him. He created a few decent opportunities for himself and this is international level we are talking about. He came out of it pretty impressively. We are basically looking at the second leg of the Champions League for Pukki if we got him.”

Pukki was not even named as a sub for Schalke’s 3-3 draw with Hamburg last Sunday.

Finnish national boss Mixu Paatelainen wants him to get regular first team football soon.

Future Paatelainen said: “Of course, it’s important our players play for their club. I know Teemu is also concerned about this fact.

“I don’t know what is happening with regards to his future. It is not for me to decide but Teemu is very important to us. Let’s hope that he can get back playing.”

SunSport revealed on Wednesday the Hoops had booted out interest from Benfica in Fraser Forster.

The Portuguese giants were ready to offer £5m. Lennon said: “I don’t know if Benfica are trying to unsettle Fraser but he is not for sale. There is no way I’d let him go.”

  13. Big Picture / Wee Picture?

Wee Oscar and his family are dealing with a personal narrative too many deal with, but less truly understand…because they have never had to endure that journey. It is heartbreaking.

I have just trawled through the last 48 hours of CQN and it would suggest that a community is fractured /divided/ frustrated.

This site started off as a wee insight into the finances / political economy of Celtic and other Scottish Fitba clubs….. And has evolved into something larger. Now some may say… Great. others may be like me. Me? I miss the clear cut CQN of old. But it’s success has led to friendships blossoming and good causes championed… But it shows us something else in these, irrefutably, turbulent times…

Division. As so it should be. The Internet has brought motivated bright minds focussing on what is a matter of importance and identity, in a time when increasingly, unimportance, irrelevant celebrity and consumption is more lauded. Any right thinking Tim who does not see how the Corporate World challenges them and their family is delusional… In my humble opinion. For a simple reason…

The Tims They Are A Changing…..

And that is a Moral Certainty.

    So….

    Challenge the PLC

    Challenge the SFA

    Challenge the MSM.

    And FFS Challenge Ourselves…

The thing that perpetually blows my mind is how Tims see Lazy Journalism so clearly in the Sports media, but ignore it elsewhere while it shapes and emasculates their lives. We should not be laughing or ridiculing Chic Young and Jeremy Paxman, We should be raging with them and holding these Big or wee court jesters to serious account.

    Let me be blunt:

Bankers and their media are Scum.

And they own everyone of us… In business, in our homes…and now, even in our heritage. Now, I might be MaggieMcGillesque (God Bless Her) in saying this…

    But….

Thatchers Children are growing more relevant and pertinent….. They are Zombiesque….thatchers Children…. And it is contagious…

It’s just the way things are….

Wake up or be prepared to be challenged…. Because in these PLC times we will all eventually be challenged.

Roll On Oscar and the Fight.

  14. The funny thing is, the only explanation I could reason with in my mind re the attack on the GB is that they posed a threat to the Celtic Board – a unified group of supporters growing in strength.

So this is how out of touch with who we are.

They do a stasi on them.

Fools. Now it can only go the other way, and the club is at risk because of them.

Yet some here call them financial experts?!?

  16. PFayr…and others who have taken umbrage….

There was some indignation today about the treatment of Fergus. Not only by the media (Saddam comments) and some supporters who booed him.

And yet, today’s generation treat Peter Lawell exactly the same.

You really think he is incompetent? Who do you propose should take his place? Will they do better?

Do you really think his real objective is to ‘line his own pockets’?

The reality may very well be that Celtic are a big club, operating in a small environment, next door to a league that pays its LAST placed team over 60 million pounds.

The reality may be that there are very few footballers who would play for us, if they thought they could make more money playing for some small club in a lucrative league in the same (legally speaking) country speaking the same language.

Peter Lawell will, someday, be somewhere else. As is Fergus McCann. And Gordon Strachan.

There are some on here who will be glad of that. Regardless of the consequences.

Celtic have done remarkably well, despite the incredibly difficult circumstances in which they find themselves. In large part, due to individuals whose jobs are poorly understood by thise who vilify them.

For the record, I thgink we could improve on several fronts. We could do a lot better at bringing 18 year olds with potential into the world of decent 21 year olds.

I think, notwithstanding some great successes, that we could still improve on the recruitment front.

I think that we could defend (and attack) corners better. And throw ins.

And yet, there is so much good about our club, our players, our coaches, and our ‘suits’.

But, keyboards and anonymity is a potent mix………

  17. Tauranga - Keep hope in your heart wee Oscar and family on

FFM I am sure we are in full agreement about the GB. They are a big part of what makes Celtic Park homes games jump. My opinion, I believe that Celtic have a gun at their heads with this one, watch how it pans out. It will be connected to H & S checks on IPox. The GB will spread the beat around the stadium for a while before they get a place they can call home. Good things take time.

I think that was an excellent post.

I think some fholk need to realise we’re fighting for the soul of the club against the gravitational pull of heartless capitalism.

The irony being, that those that have been labelled mineshafters have raised the issue of directing CFC profit at charity; they (whoever they are) never demanded 100% fund directed at players, but have always been portrayed here as being radio rental.

Of course we will always have the issue of hun rescue here.

So surely we can find another 11 clubs in Europe to lead the way with us. The Charity League. Barca can join 10 years down the line when said league becomes a rival with corrupt UEFA. In the meantime, let the rest of them rot. The bulk of Europe would follow such a league with our own TV setup. The other continents would follow.

Now would the money men in charge of football clubs, including Celtic, do so? Well, we have to ask them why not. Did we at least try?

The witch is dead and her legacy lives on, sadly with the mandate of the British public. The banks destroy more jobs and get double bonuses. Corporate corruption is rife, the public humiliation that is The Rangers International or whatever seconds are know as now is great evidence. Sure it can happen at Celtic Park, of course we should question it. Not every company is corrupt. capatalism sucks but it is no worse that many other systems that have tried and failed or are operating in other parts of the World. Point for me is that the Celtic PLC have played a very good game off the park. In my opinion and I know that many disagree I think that the PLC are defending our club in the way that they can do best and protecting our hard fought history. The Celtic PLC are Celtic men like us. If Celtic PLC failed to produce annual reports , like the oldco, or use dubious ways of financing, associated with drug dealers, money launderers or wanted criminals I would be standing with you on this FFM. We are winning. Times and tims are good. On the park and off we are successful and future opportunities to get out of SPHELL and the corruption we know for fact will happen…in my lifetime.
