Agents talk to the media when they are not talking to Celtic

1126

One of the problems of doing your business discretely is that if and when agents or selling clubs publicise your interest in their player, media attention has a tendency to attribute too much focus on the most recent name revealed.  Teemu Pukki is a player Celtic have been trailing for some months but the fact that his agent yesterday revealed their interest is no indication that he enjoys any pre-eminence over others strikers being considered.  If anything, briefings from the agent are an indication of the opposite.

Reports yesterday that Pukki is backup in case a bid for Finnbogason fails are also wide of the mark; this is not the active path Celtic are working on.  There are (at least) two other strikers under consideration, neither of whom have directly or indirectly leaked the discussions.

Nothing sells media adverts like transfer ‘news’, which is fair enough, but news is easier to find than the actual story. This is a ‘no news’ article, the easiest of all. No panicking in the back…

I take your point about Egyptian demographics.Honestly.

Completely agree with your concerns/worries about global militant Muslimism.

Why not give us a rundown on the dramatic increase in the Jewish population of Palestine/Israel since, say, the start of the 20th century,or any significantly lengthy period of your choosing?

Lest some may feel you have double standards.

Christian population of Israel has been completely marginalised which goes unremarked because of the new term(spin) : Judeo-Christian.

Is that not a comparative concern?

    Just in from thefleadh tonight.

    Derry is absolutely buzzin.

The place is packed and the craic is 90.

Right from the off last Sunday where the usual opening crowd of 3-400 was a healthy 5000 the people of this town have come out in their droves.

    Population here is approx 100,000.

Most estimates for population over the fleadh give us 300,000.

This is one of the biggest parties ever in Ireland and almost zero bother.

Offically all over on Sunday night but seeing as its Irish Monday night is gearing up to to be a proper send off instead

For visitors beds are very scarce but camping and mobile home spaces are still there.

Google fleadh ar city of culture sites for more info.

We need to win the next 2 euro games.

    G.night

  11. Vmhan,

    Disagree.

I actually am totally numb to what we do in Europe now.

    And I don’t think I’m alone. That’s where we’re at.

But as said before, your devotion to Celtic is unquestionable.

I’m depressed by it all now. It’s not a question of lets invest the money in the players. Lets use it for the very thing the club was about.

How to balance that with keeping it profitable? Well, am sure we can employ someone at £350,000 a year to manage that balance.

And I BET we’d still do as well in Europe as we do now.

Let’s start by protecting our supporters, not incriminating them and scaring them away.

  12. Depressing to read Awe Naw’s meek confession today that he’s been overcome by apathy.

The big banket being chucked over all our nappers.

What can you do? If you represent 1/120,000th with only a few seeing the light?

Goodbye Celtic and all it stood for, ironically at the time when the club should be at it’s strongest??

And cue all the happy clapper sanctimonious drivel tomorrow of how well off we are and how fantastic shape the finances are in….

Aye, so why are we turning over min £90M turnover yet decrying every year zero profit despite asset sales varying from 0-20M per annum and CL revenue.

Much are we officially donating to charity as a Club?

Much are we investing in marketing for charity?

Much is the return from said investment compared to the return for retail sales?

Much am I going to get a roasting in the morning from “Disgusted from Largs” about my insensitivity.

Much is Disgusted from Largs going to be in denial?

    Much time has been wasted?

Much money could have been donated this season to charity by the Club that wasn’t?

Ye can answer, “Much money did DD give to charity personally?”.

I’d reply, “How should I know. We’re talking about the club, not DD.”

    Discuss at will.

  13. Tauranga - Keep hope in your heart wee Oscar and family on

FFm where do you get the 90 Million turnover. 40,000 season books might bring in say 12 million. Exception income this year hardly equates to 20 Million every year . The season book also pays for things like wages, electricity, rates and even tax. I am sure that we have some money to spend this year , we already have with some of our new players. If you are really serious about finding out how much comes in, and goes out of Celtic get a copy of the annual plan. It has to be audited by law. If you don’t like what it says you can always call it a conspiracy. Off oot for a walk down the beach. Good year to be a Celtic Supporter. Enjoy it mate. Celtic to hammer the Kazaks away and home. Hail Hail. c’mon wee Oscar and Mackenzie you can do it.

I owe them a pint too!!!!

  15. Fergus slated the blues

Pedro knew Miku and Lassad we guff back in march and neither would be here this season

Pedro also knew we would sell Wanyama and Hooper, plus we knew we had the CL cash

Pedro also knew we CL qualification would be at stake ( minimum £ 20 M )

Pedro also knew that the spine of the team would need to be replaced to make the CL

Why are we scrambling around trying to bring in a striker and maybe end up with third choice with a schalke sub

Celtic have sold approx 31k season tickets this season with CL football there will be a surge to close to 40k. If not attendances will drop to circa 25k

Pedro has failed miserably in the transfer Market so far this summer. Still recoverable but will cost more now due to seasons being underway.

Pedros lackeys and apologists will defend him with nae money, tough budget, Scottish football — a myriad of excuses he gives them

At the same time Lenny is quite right to be concerned about Freaser Forster. If Benfica bid upwards of 6 mil, he’s gone.

This is turning into a close season that will shape the next 3 -5 years for Celtic and so far we have managed to weaken the team even though we have all the means to do the opposite.

Pedros bonus should still be secure thought — suppose that’s always a sign things are on the up.

    Just about what I think

I cannot understand the transfer policy this summer

We seem hell bent on F’ing up the squad for profit ….profit which we don’t need

We had little debt last season …sold Ki and made a fortune in the CL ….we must be very well off financially …why rip the squad apart

Also we were told we wanted Hooper to stay ….well why not spent ALL of the transfer fee on a replacement ..status quo …

We have squandered a fortune trying to unearth a striker on the cheap …it seems that failed policy is being persisted with

I agree re FF…..if we are not in the CL we’ll not need him anyway …that will be their thought

All efforts should be focused on CL qualification …..it seems we are happy to leave it to chance

My greatest concern is that substantial bonuses and dividends are to be paid …in these financially straitened times …I can’t see that being well received

  18. Vmhan

Thanks amigo ! Was genuinely touched when I read that, as I’ve been emotionally gay this week :)) Then I realised, doh!! I shouldn’t have made up that £90M turnover figure…..as it would be seconds before it was….

    Tauranga,

It’s in several sites for football club turnovers, confirmed as same sites have the figures from for example,

    Turnover 2001-2 £56M, 2002-3 £61M, so on so on, 2007-8 £73M.

Are these completely made up figures? I’ll let you prove this. As long as you bear in mind you then should be able to apply the same critical analysis to all other clubs claimed turnovers in future discussions.

Well done on being the first to bite though on a completely insignificat point – unless the figure was wildly out? I notice you didn’t post a figure yourself…

So, thank you for pointing out that there are electricity bills to be paid out of turnover. Staff wages to be paid out of turnover. Blah blah.

Who amongst the CQNers were you directing those comments at? Who do you think reads here, doesn’t understant the difference between profit and turnover, bills and invoices?

Oh, and well done for bringing in the word “conspiracy” into it.

You don’t look too clever now, do you? Enjoy your walk on the beech. How many grains of sands have you trampled on this year? I have an estimate, and I bet it wouldn’t match your figure.
