  1. Big Swee walks on with Neil Lennon on

Collins making good sense with his summary.

Selling our top players and new buys nowhere near the grade required as yet.

Here’s hoping they can come good.

  2. Boerrigter did nothing when he came on because he was not given the ball. The same as in the first half when Forrest wasn’t given the ball.

Our attacking tactic in Europe is hump it long to Samaras and hope he reproduces like he did last season. Unfortunately he has been awful in this season’s CL and the manager has yet to work out a Plan B. But then when the attacking options you have is a collection of forwards, none of whom can hold the ball up and bring others into play, and don’t score regularly at any level never mind this level, it is not difficult to see why.

The buy cheap stack them high policy has its advantages when you find a gem you can sell on at a massive profit, but it also means that performances tonight become the norm.

  3. playfusbal4dguilders on

Can we get a forward who will attack within the width of the goals.

Always waiting for defender to miss it. Why!!!!

A poor performance and we’re all disappointed but the personal abuse aimed at the team tonight by some on here is sickening.

    ——-

You should be used to it by now mate.

Really awful individual performances tonight but the abuse from some on here is dreadful.

When I joined this site it was a Celtic blog.

  5. Did not think we would score tonight, and sure enough,

beaten by a very average CL team…….we need a goal

scorer…….on the positive side big Virgil outstanding…and

please no more hysterics about Joe Ledley’s contract

NFL does not trust him, if he did he would have started.

  6. Marrakesh Express

We unearth our best central defensive pairing in 10 years but middle and front we’ve gone backwards.

If NL has final say on which players we buy, he can carry the can for not replacing Hooper.

    =————-

Crazy, defence looks as good as we’ve had in years, up there with MONs team yet going forward, wow we are no threat at all.

  7. Disappointing. On the field and in cyberspace.

    Could have been so different.

Fat Lady has not even gargled yet…

    KTF.

  8. Let’s be honest here – Neil has made us hard to beat. Apart from one mistake all the goals that have done us in the CL have been of a certain quality.

  9. Philbhoy - Bring it on!!!! on

Getting to the group stages was the extent of the boards ambition………..

……………as it will be next season.

The first time we spend money on a player is when the huns are in the same league as us.

    Won’t it?

Just reading back. DBBIA, you are so right. Some “supporters” are an utter embarrassment.

    Ditto.

  12. the_huddle

There are no easy groups in the CL – they are all tough.

Personally I think this one is a tough, tough one.

    So tough!

    ;o)

  13. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Well we look like it is all down to our last game to see if we can qualify for the Europa league after Christmas.Tonight showed to many limitations in the team that Lennie selected I thought we were overall to negative against not the best Ajax team I have seen. However,we have to get ourselves together and go on from here there is no point in slagging all and sundry Lennie and the team will know they have let the fans down with a very poor performance and I am sure they will work hard to rectify it I think we are in the toughest CL group and are falling a wee bit short.H.H.

  14. scotlands shame on

Why does Tanner keep sayin we lose next wk an we are out. We lose an ajax lose we are one point behind with one to play.dirty hurting bar stewards.

  15. Harald Flatpack on

Some being unfair on the Ajax side. A very young side, with many players brought through the system. They will improve over the course of the season and beyond. For me the contrast is their young players playing whilst we never see the majority coming through from Lennoxtown.

NL should be frustrated with a lack of cutting edge. Sammi chose the wrong time to be hopeless and Commons was struggling with his match fitness.

The big miss is Wanyama. He broke up the play further up the park and gave us a platform higher up to build from. Many of the new players still have much to prove.

  16. Watching Celtic this season is like watching Craig Brown’s Scotland teams. Well organised, difficult to beat, but lacking any quality or threat going forward.

  17. Parting thought

Samaras burst his knee a few days ago.

Played with a big gigantic plaster to keep it in shape.

That tells me there was potential for damage.

No one can tell me he was fit – physically or mentally in relation to his injury – you must feel it.

But no, get the scapegoat list writ large.

  18. Concerned that NL doesnt seem to rate the players he bought in the summer. Balde, Pukki, and Boerritger should all be first team regulars by now.

We are not so rich that we can blow millions on fringe players.

People saying this is our easiest ever CL group: I presume that is a joke?

  20. Philbhoy - Bring it on!!!! on

    Rocket man

    Played 4 lost 3.

    Hard to beat?

Maybe you are right. neil has made us hard to beat…….but he’s made it just as difficult for us to win.

    Unless I’m missing something.

I know, i know, pukki will score 20 plus goals this season, err, starting with the next time he, err, gets a start.

  21. Petethebeat.. jamesie did well ? The only things he did well was to avoid doing anything at all and to avoid the hook. Its no his fault that he gets picked all the time but when did he last win a header or go into a full blooded tackle or read the game well enough to make a telling defensive interception ? Playing wide demands a shift these days. He doesnt give one. He is not Celtic class.

  22. Very depressing Bhoys. Apart from our team being decimated from last year, I am extremely concerned at our fitness levels this season.

  23. Some people saying this was our easiest CL group ever?

Get a grip fur fox ache.

Has anyone blamed PL yet for not protecting the supporters attacked in the Amsterdam bar?

Off to work so will miss Neganon when he logs on shortly.

  24. Rocket Man 21:54

You need to score goals to win games. Celtic don’t do damage limitation.

Get the youth through this season and find a couple of gems. We are due some and they deserve a chance.

Ajax are playing like i’d hoped we’d now be playing, you can see what they are trying to do, there goal was class. But they just lack that bit of experience but good on them for playing football the right way.

  28. We could have played for a further 90 mins without looking like scoring a goal. Poor performance against a poor team, poor result.

Defence was CL quality, midfield and front not up to CL standard.

We didn’t start playing till we were a goal down.

Mulgrew allowed players to run off him all night – never a midfield CL player, ok as a stand in the SPFL. Kayal gave his all but the midfield were second best all night.

Pukki showed more in 10 mins than Commons did in 80 mins. Forrest never really in the game, when he had the opportunity to make a difference came up short. Better not to talk about Stokes.

The Samaras fireworks didn’t happen tonight, we can’t simply be a one man team – we didn’t have a striking threat to cause Ajax any worries. Lack of investment eventually coming back to haunt us?

Ambrose, VVD and Lustig showed genuine Cl quality tonight, pity about the rest.

I’ll be in my usual seat supporting Celtic against AC Milan, still lots to play for!

Agree. If Ajax are as bad as some are saying then I’ll take that rubbish every week. Going forward they are very good and exiting to watch. Young, fast, technically gifted players playing in a system that allows them to express themselves.

Our defensive set up and their attacking set up, what a team that would be, easily runners up to Barca in this group

  30. If you were to watch every Champions league game this week I dont think you will see a keeper punt the ball as aimlessly as Forster did tonight, possession at this level is everything.Did we really need to spend nearly 4 million on two ineffectual players when there were cheaper alternatives at home. The Ajax keeper had one save in the whole game to make, the manager has to put his hands up for this one and take responsibility.

  31. TheOriginalSadiesBhoy on

To be absolutely honest now is the time to pile pressure on the Board to spend some money on a striker. I know I’ll attract flak from this but I am totally unapologetic as I’ve been banging on about it, unapologetically, since the transfer window closed. Scott Brown and Nir Biton should be given another kick in the nether regions if they haven’t been already. They have cost us dearly through their stupidity in this competition.

The team NFL selected was posted repeatedly by different CQN’rs since Saturday

    – I think NFL picked the best side he could, and Utd matched Celtic, so an odd goal

defeat in Amsterdam is hardly a disgrace.

This when the Blog deteriorates when infrequent posters – wade in.

  33. Think we can see how unsuccessful our summer dealings were (in football, if not financial terms).

Wanyama and Hooper have not been replaced, and whilst VVD looks great, as a team we are certainly poorer than this time last year.
