Excellent performance from Celtic to lose by a single goal, and the result with

the players NFL had available, was no surprise, especially if you watched the

way we played against Dundee Utd, a few days ago.

Dining at the top table with our flawed genius’s is never comfortable, but tonight

Celtic competed all the way with Ajax, who were releived to take the points.

No finger pointing here, at the players who were selected because NFL knows

them better than any CQN experts.

    Transfer windows are closed.

Safe home all of the magnificent Celtic away supporters

Nothing to say that hasn’t been said.

Looking at the bigger picture, and having just seen all the scores and goals from the other games, my pre-tournie favourites looking good – Atlco Madrid to go all the way.

Ajax sold their best players right before the transfer window closed, yet played levels above us in football and for some reason fitness.

fair point but wanyama and finnabogson would walk straight into their team

Ajax are not a poor team. They play very good football. They are an inexperienced team. Huge difference.

We’ve not been in that many CL groups so should be easy enough for you to list easier ones.

On paper the names look tough but Milan and Ajax are having awful season, evan Barca are looking below their best though it was obvious they’d walk this one.

  6. Reading some of the posts I wonder why some on here don’t just feck off and follow Barca. We are plying our trade in the SPFL, we are always going to struggle once we reach the Group Stages of the Champions League. Re the weakening of the team, Van Dijk is a huge improvement on Kelvin. Victor is a huge loss O.K. but I doubt if Hoops would have made any difference tonight. However the main point is that all 3 wanted to go, they were not chased out of Celtic Park. If we make a major bid for a player from another SPFL Club we will likely get him, if an EPL Club make a major bid for one of ours they will likely get him, its the way the world works.

Exactly. £6m on players the manager doesn’t think good enough to play against a young, low on confidence Ajax team. A half fit Commons and Samaras chosen ahead of them.

We could have bought one quality player with that money.

  8. I would like to thank all at Celtic for giving us the chance to be in the CL,

when you consider how many teams in EPL will never be any where near

the CL, we have so much to be thankful for.

No shame in a defeat by Ajax, and so we move on, we are still in it!

Never say die, we fight to the last point!

I was delighted to be a small part of tonight’s game!

Love you Celtic, and every thing about this club. Bless you all for just being!

  9. Absolutely devastated, but I still love Celtic. “I don’t care if we win lose or draw” . Or should that be “we”. I love my team with every heartbeat. Celtic, this family adore you. :))

Not read back and not going to,

Sammi ,Kris and Tony stokes didn’t turn up tonight and yet we only go down 1 nil.

All my European ambitions were met for this season were met for this when we reached the group stages.

Still we are not out of it beat Milan at home(i’m highly confident) and Barca beat Ajax(probable) and were on 6

    Milan5

    and Ajax 4

So bring on Milan at paradise.

    Mikael Lustig is a gem.

Tonight I’m slightly disappointed that we were not at our best but as proud as can be that we are where we are just now under Neil Francis Lennon.

Hail Hail and may only good things come your way.

  11. Gene's a Bhoy's name on

We could have had jimmy mcgrory up front tonight and wouldn’t have scored -we are not creating chances at this level

  12. had a quick skim thru the comments and it was like I was sitting beside every moaner I’ve ever heard at the fitba

I say unlucky tonight – anyone not thinking ahead to the scenario of results is nuts. It was always gonna be against Milan at home and I gutted my crystal ball told me that last minute loser at home could be pivotal.

A wee bit more composure from young Jamesie, A foot Shorter or dipping quicker from Kris, But for an outstanding tackle from their player, we would have equalised in a move similar to theirs.

I think there is a player in Teemi Pukki too – he didn’t get the bounce, not enough games.

Kayal is a terrier, should have burst the net but that’s fitba

Best thing for me…. Again – at this level….. We Competed.

Hail HAil – I’m prepping for Milan…. then Barca Still a lot to play for

    hooper, wanyama,kelvin wilson

    you reap what you sow

    we cant be selling club

that model only worked for one season

we cant sell our way to success

  14. Yep its everyones fault .The only people to blame for tonight are the people who sold off our two most important players and gave the manager pennies to replace them.I would also put a lot of the blame on Lenny for accepting this.If he is happy with this policy, then he must accept some of the blame. The great hero for some,Pukki, was left on the bench for a half fit Commons.Kayal was taking the place of Wanyama.Of course I will be labelled a “Board hater”for saying this.Could not give a toss.As Jack Nicholson famously said”You cant handle the truth”.

  15. I would like to thank all at Celtic for giving us the chance to be in the CL,

    too slow going foward

set pieces corners and free kicks woeful

fowards who fail to score or even hit target

    same mistakes time after time

    same result

    so no suprise

but we still have a chance against ac milan at home

but will be another 50/50 to get a result

will need a barrell load a luck as well

    Hail Hail

  19. Disappointed ?,yes I am always disappointed when we lose, surprised no.Our problems are in mid field,CM should be at the back,we need a KC type player with a bit more pace,we are to pedestrian, across the park and back and same again. Watched Real and Juve last night best two players on the park were 20 years old,Raphaël Varane and Paul Pogba ,where are our youngsters. NL needs to give them a chance and maybe even bring in a foreign coach to help.

    Hail Hail

  20. OK Tell me

Can a CL side really be crap?

What is an average CL side?

Is it one good enough to with or be second in their home league?

What does a Pot 4 team play?

Something similar to how we play? Cautious? Holding?

We have a financial gap with other sides from all over Europe thanks to our geography, climate and adherence to fiscal propiety.

We gamble on signings hoping to uncover a diamond in the dross.

We have a strict wage cap policy.

We punch above our weight and I for one am thankful we are on the big stage.

    Disappointed? Of course I am.

Hopeful Neil and the 12th man can drag something from the players at CP on the 26th.

  21. whoosh> yo! paul67, Yo! peeps! what gives?

head to head in a “3rd place” qualifier we lost narrowly playing at our most disjointed.

    still no plan B.

alternatively it was spineless. the spine of the team was sold. to get anywhere we needed 100% from all.sadly it was not to be tonight.

pass marks to the back 4 a FF. skid marks to the usual suspects who all had an off night at the same time.

  22. DeniaBhoy in awe of wee Oscar's Courage on

Foster won’t have done his English claims any harm. Sammi for Barca, never. I enjoy watching him the same way I enjoyed Frank McGarvie – he’s a maverick. But he doesn’t score enough (unlike Frank) and he doesn’t look up enough to see when a pass is on – and sometimes it really is despite those that say he never has any support. Tonight was his poorest big-game performance that I can recall. Maybe time he had a rest, that used to work before when he was rarely a 90-minute man.

  23. That was pretty poor.

The defence gets pass marks and the rest were poor to abysmal.

Disjointed ,not fit enough making wrong decisions ,no movement etc etc.

Lenny made as many mistakes with the team selection and not subbing the players who were contributing the least.

Ajax were not great but there were fitter and smarter and more determined and wereworthy winners.

  24. One saving grace is we go into the Milan game with something to play for and still in the mix.

A result puts us in second assuming barca beat Ajax, which takes us right to the death against barca.

Now that would be some way to qualify for the last 16, I’m the nou camp.

Can it be done? Why not.

Sammi and commons obv not fit so should not have started, but we took the gamble.

On another point, love reading posters absolutely slaughter Celtic players. Guys that have more footballing talent in their toe then the posters slating them.

Must have a seriously crap life if they can come on an anonymous blog and character assassinate young men, like a 22 yr old Forrest, if he even is that,

Pathetic really, and not the behaviour i would wish in any way to be associated with.

Celtic fans, maybe in name, but not really.

  25. How do we win games if we have nothing up front ? It was a massive mistake to sign Pukki as Hoopers replacement – and I said this before we signed him ! But according to some he runs around a lot so that’s ok. Balde ? Who knows but probably no better than Tony Watt.

Fingogasson was the signing we needed ( yes I’ve seen home him live) but he was £5M

It’s very simple we let 3 first team players go and signed 1, Stokes and Kayal were never good enough before we sold Hooper and Wanyama so why are they good enough now ?

I’ve been on a pink and fluffy senior management course today so maybe I should be more positive but I firmly believe in being able to look myself in the mirror, so I’d be interested in seeing who agrees with Peter Lawwell’s commitment that Celtic would come out every transfer window stronger than they went in ?

Maybe he meant financially stronger ?

  28. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

No sure how I feel, karagandy was our biggest game this season, tonight I hoped we’d do better but never expected much, I though ajax played really well and we never, I dont think we made them look good, their passing was sharp and slick and they found their target more times than they didnt. we never looked as slick, thought we were set up to spoil their game rather than play our own game, saying that I’m still no sure what our own game is.

We carried the form from the weekend. Lucky to be in the CL and when it shows its a bit of a hard pill to swallow but its the truth. i fell a bit sorry for those who booked their tickets for the final but im sure they’ll get a good price.

FF, VVD great but Michael Lustig take a bow son, wow what a player, have said it many times but he just keeps getting better and better, our next sale >£8M easy.

  29. need a penalty box striker brown has not helped our case but football has habbit of the unpredictable. most guys saying we are rotten wont beat Milan why not we will be at celtic park in our more favourd position of underdog which seems to spur us on. its been a tough group wonder how bad the humidity of the roof being closed affected us not an excuse but guys it was bad but its not over yet support the bhoys this is when they need us and who knows .

    Transfer windows are closed.

    ………………………………………………………….

Very glib. Our defence played out of their skins but to be honest our midfield and attack were really poor. We posed little threat in 94 minutes of football. It’s hard to blame Sammi and Kris who were very ineffective because Sammi had a bad knee gash and Kris was clearly not match fit. Our parsimonious approach in the transfer market is what has put paid to us so far in the CL. We came out of the transfer market weaker than we went into it. This is the opposite of what our CEO has stated our policy to be and is simply not good enough. I don’t blame NL as he is going along with club policy but he will be culpable in future if he continues to endorse a flawed policy.

We failed to build on a position of strength. If we continue to sell our best players, VvD and Fraser Foster and fail to replace them with equal or better then we are on a downward spiral and playing into the hands of a team across the river who are likely to return to the top flight in two years time.

  31. ajax played a great game tonight and man marked are best players out of the game good result hail hail

  32. I think some posters are missing the point. True it is no disgrace to lose to Ajax however that has to be balanced against how easy it was for Ajax. FF pulled of at least 3 great saves, VVD and Lustig each made goal saving challenges. Truth is 1 -0 isn’t a true reflection of the game it overly flatters us.

We look so disjointed at times. How many times in the game did a Celtic player have to pass the ball back as there were no options to make a forward pass meanwhile Ajax were having no similar problem. I can recall us having 2 shots on target the entire game neither of which caused the Ajax keeper any problems. There are too many obvious deficiencies in our squad which need to be addressed.
