‘ALLAN WOULD BE MAIN PLAYER,’ HIBS BOSS

EDDIE MAY is adamant Scott Allan should be in action at Parkhead tonight – for HIBS!

The Easter Road interim boss, who has been put in charge following last week’s exit of Neil Lennon, is disappointed the playmaker will not be pulling the strings in his team’s midfield.

Allan will officially rejoin the Edinburgh outfit for a third spell this summer after agreeing a pre-contract, but, despite their best efforts, Hibs could not get a permanent deal done with Celtic during last month’s transfer window.

Despite a crippling injury list, Brendan Rodgers is highly unlikely to turn to the 27-year-old who hasn’t made an appearance this season and only 17 in total in close to four years at Parkhead.

Allan was at Easter Road on Saturday to watch his employers-in-waiting slip to a 2-1 defeat against Aberdeen.

When asked about Celtic’s problems, May replied: “Yes, they have so many injuries they might even have to play Scott Allan!

“It wasn’t a joke, I was being serious. If Scott was at Hibernian – which he will be in the summer – he’d be a main player, like he was last season.

“Instead, he’s hardly featured in a squad, never mind a team – that’s the quality Celtic have got.

“They have earned the right to have that quality by winning championships, Cups and playing in the Champions League for a number of years.

“I’m disappointed for Scott because we truly believe he will be a big player for us. We were really disappointed we couldn’t get something across the line.

“But we have to be respectful of Celtic who wanted to keep him.”
