Amsterdam to Astana

250

Do you remember who we played this round last season, Helsinki or Helsingborg?  The ones you win often blend into the background noise.  Not so in 2007.  The defeat of Spartak Moscow on penalty kicks will live long in the memory.

The last Champions League qualifying round reversal was THAT game eight years ago.  Gordon Strachan was sill unpacking his white tee shirts when the team collapsed in Bratislava.  A historic recovery was on the cards a week later when Celtic took a 4-0 lead with 20 minutes remaining but it wasn’t to be.

Before that MTK Budapest were humbled 0-4 at home by the Sevillians making the return leg a formality, not that the Sevillians were masters at Champions League qualification.  Basel knocked them out the previous season on away goals, paving the way for that memorable season in the Uefa Cup.

Which brings us to Ajax.  If you are my age, winning 1-3 in the Ajax Arena was something of a landmark in your life.  We were back at the top table. We were also pretty shocked at that fact.

It was Helsingborg in the final qualifying round last season.  Let’s hope Shakhter Karaganda fade from memory quickly as an inconsequential stop along the way.

Get tore into them, Celtic.

I would go for your first choice, with Virgil starting and Charlie at left back with Emilio on bench. It is, however, Lenny’s shout.

Description : The Shamrock is Moraira’s official Irish bar. We are located on the road connecting Moraira and Calpe, and offer a relaxed and autenthic Irish experience, which of course includes Ireland’s native beers, such as Guinness and Murphy’s. We have a big terrace and a large TV for the sports fans, and our bar is available for a wide range of occasions. We are a great venue for birthday parties, stag and hen nights, and society meetings. We are also open in the mornings if you would like to pop in for a coffee. For more information about where to find us, live music and other events, and about the town of Moraira itself, click either the links below or the menu to the left. We now also serve paellas, pizzas and basket meals!

  17. I would start with Sammi and Amido to keep their defence occupied and run them ragged as the game progresses, Izzy for me at full back, Charlie is in trouble if they have a speedy winger..

Playing catch up and just noticed your post, I recognise the symptoms so you have my sympathy. I use Mucron and have found it the best cure. They have a high dose of paracetamol so read the dosage advice (unlike me). You’ll most likely need to go to a chemist to get them.

You are right about Emilio’s pace. I am just worried about high balls to the back post/left back position

  25. If I’m not mistaken, Shakhtar means “miners” in russian.

Off to the Sport Bar in Oslo for the game, hope there won’t be much mineshafting and groans galore during the match…

Understand the concern, but we don’t want to change defence that much, especially with CB positions different, think it’s important to keep full backs the same
