Appetites wetted, consequence of intimidation

608

For some, short holidays are over. Batteries recharged, appetites wetted. The international break is not the period of worldwide travel and mockery it is for others. If you think you are champing at the bit to get to Celtic Park on Saturday, Scott Brown and Kolo Toure could probably sprint there from Lennoxtown right now.

For others it will be a chance to put disappointments behind them. A few (well, maybe just Moussa) will return having achieved new heights for their country. As ever, Tom Rogic will pitch with jetlag having played in two continents in the last six days.

You know they will all want to see and impress Brendan. This is the way of it at Lennoxtown right now. They are bursting a gut at training to get into the team. Be alarmed, Motherwell.

You know when your PR is on nationwide TV, intemperate and pointy, that you are in special hands. Asking the same question four different ways lacks courtesy (and a whole lot more), but PR can’t let the journo leave knowing he’s got what he wanted from the encounter. I’m no PR expert, but you know when you see someone mis-control a proverbial back pass.

Still angry at that newspaper’s attack on Celtic yesterday. I didn’t buy it, so didn’t realise at the time they printed Peter Lawwell’s home address. You know what you are doing when you publish someone’s home address.  It rarely happens because the consequences are so uncontrollable.

It’s one of the most insidious acts legally possible by a newspaper. It has an immediate consequence of intimidation for the family – that’s a given when you make the decision to print something several hundred thousand times.  Utterly deplorable.  We are back in the era where attacks were incited on Neil Lennon.

Apologies for issues accessing the blog recently.  I’m on the case.

And the CEO will be involved in tax avoidance.

I think that is unfair and basically gives justification to the Daily Record’s repeated story.

Tax avoidance is a very blanket term and legitimate avoidance is legal. In fact as you know ,the government actually encourages us to use avoidance schemes like ISA where we avoid paying tax.

As long as there are taxation accountants and advisors there will be various avoidance schemes. After all, nobody employs a tax planner to pay more tax.

  4. A piece from JJ blog today, interesting indeed.

The board is continuing to play a dangerous game of Ker Plunk with the three roofs that are hanging by Baron Bouffant’s hairspray enforced G-string. Bach’s “Air on the G string” is now proscribed at Ibrox. Woolgar Hunter have told Murray and Robertson that the three roofs have to be lifted and replaced. My source on this is impeccable and has a structural engineering background. The only question is whether they’ll relocate to Hampden prior to CFC sending round an independent engineer. This engineer would confirm Glasgow’s worst kept secret: the connectors are shot.

However let’s raise a glass to those who cannot attend the FBA awards but have generously paid for a virtual seat. Cheers

I am sure many on here will have met him or have been confirmed by him. Words fail one at a time when a good man dies, but faith enables one to know that after his period of suffering he has gone home to God.

The last thing he said to me as I visited him on Wednesday was “Who did Celtic play at the weekend? ” Even in his dying days, he still thought about the bhoys. Requiescat in pace.

Ernie may be an ardent Celtic supporter. It doesn’t, IMHO, give him carte blanche to consistently denigrate other people on here. He has taken the article from the Daily Record and used that as a stick to beat our CEO with; worthy of Level 5 IMHO.

I employ an accountant who advises me on appropriate and legal ways to avoid paying tax I don’t have to pay (both for my personal and company tax commitments). It is wholly appropriate and legal. Does that make me a bad person? I don’t think so.

Those involved with LLP’s and other (at the time) legitimate tax avoidance schemes have nothing to be ashamed or berated about if they have paid any retrospective outstanding tax requested by HMRC when these schemes were revoked.

There is no evidence that Peter Lawwell has any outstanding tax liability therefore I think that the comment was as shameful as the original article. IMHO of course.

  22. Brazil 2- Italy 3 .

Should have been 4 . The great Carlo Antognoni wrongly had a goal disallowed for offside . Antognoni stll holds the record re the number of appearances for Italy wearing the No 10 shirt .

Hat trick for Paolo Rossi . A man memorably described by The Italian Fitba Pink as ” – resembling a bad actor playing a drug addict “.

The Italians really thought they had a chance — pre match stuff on the tele featured the pundits stating that Brazil were careless and arrogant and that ” Paolo the Pickpocket ” was just the man to take advantage of that.

I doubt that a man of your apparent intellect would use the DR as his reference point for your comment on PL.

Anyway, as far as I know, Tax Avoidance is not a crime. The Children and unemployed who sat at the tables BRT&H mentioned avoided paying tax by virtue of their age and income!

  26. A few of the recent posts on these pages have been about wonderful players of yesteryear.

Relatively speaking, ALL eras produce great players. Do people really believe that the heroes from our youth are without parallel in the modern game? If so, why would that be the case?

  27. So is the Party Line now that Peter Lawwell wasn’t involved in a failed tax avoidance scheme?

Or is it that the failed tax avoidance scheme is really no different to an ISA?
