Armstrong, Convicted Dave, playing with fire

1051

News that we are after a second Dundee United midfield player will prove popular, Stuart Armstrong has been tipped for progress for a couple of years.  He is another Ronny Deila-type player, a strong runner who can get up and down the field.  As usual, I’ll reserve judgement until we sign him, and I’ve had a chance to watch him properly.

You have to admire his balls.  Dave King assertion that a conviction for tax fraud is a “favourable settlement” goes beyond parody.  I’m unsure if some PR flop put those words in his head or if he concocted the notion by himself, but just as you cannot shine a turd, it is impossible to spin an undisputed criminal conviction.  He was convicted of criminal offenses.  If this is your measure of favourable, your standards are truly deplorable.

I fail to see why King even is discussing such matters with the media, unless he’s currying favour with the Daily Record.  These assertions will make no difference whatsoever to the stock market, or any reputable nominated adviser, nor will it hold sway with the SFA.  It is also a futile battleground.  In the event King gains control of newco Rangers, he doesn’t need to be a director to exercise de facto control, Paul Murray has been his man for years.  Mike Ashley is not a director, and he owns less than 9% of the club, but he appears to be able to dictate play quite comfortably.

Without a trace of irony, King told the Record: “The enthusiasm that this board adopts to ‘media management’ and its failure to act in the interest of shareholders and other stakeholders is exactly why they should be jettisoned”.

Trying hard to avoid the merest whiff of media management himself, King then added, “History will judge this board as one of the worst the club has ever had. There is not one individual who puts the club above personal interest.”

There you have it folks, our pal Dave is a man you can trust.

Just as the Newco board didn’t have enough on their plate, interim manager Kenny McDowell tendered his notice, although in true ‘Rangers’ tradition, he’s not going without a pay-off.  It’s an added vote of no confidence the regime could do without.  They now face the embarrassing prospect of allowing an interim to remain in control as a lame duck, or put a second manager on gardening leave.

Mike Ashley’s prospects of a successful turnaround look bleak in the face of such uniform and orchestrated antagonism.  I wonder if he’s the kind of man who takes manipulation lightly?  If not, the manipulators are playing with fire.

  5. just seen the CG interview and its incredible viewing – i feel sorry for the man and fear for his health , he looks broken and came across with genuine passion for the club (or perhaps fear that his dealings are catching up with him).

During this mess , Celtic needs to take care of Celtic!

  6. Chuckles socks it to them with a couple of killer punches in his latest video production

Punch No 1 Kings offence count of 40 to Easdales 1 !!!!

Punch No2 Mc Coist was asked to take a hit for the ” business” and he said naw !!!! The man who just signed his contract (without peeping) true to his word did not walk away when it came to his pay

Someone’s got to stick a microphone under that cheeky chappies jaw and ask him why he did not agree to reduce his salary like so many other of his fellow workers did

For the good of all not one

Usually in small businesses the management staff lead by example when there is a downturn …..yeah….?

Good fun to see this everlasting domestic becoming a media battle. Could make a real soap some day something like Dallas with Haggis and Masons

    Latchford,

I agree with your post and I like how you put it without mocking anyone’s name.

I would go further though and use the recent examples of Scottish talent leaving for England and even Portugal. Time was we had no players in the EPL. Around 10 years ago a few years after Scotland qualfied for France 98 we relied on the existing Glasgow clubs plus England’s lower leagues for national team players.

Now we have a team who could largely come from The EPL. Ok we may not have players in the first team of the top 4 clubs but a few players who could compete. Some who have played in the EPL but recently relegated. Thing is, if you took away Virgil and Craig Gordon, what one of our current squad would get into the first team if any EPL side or top half if their 2nd top division? Izzy maybe, Brown perhaps, some others if they could stay fit. Put those against the players like Snodgrass, McArthur, Andrew Robertson, Gauld. I’m not sure that those players would all have jumped at the higher wages on offer in England had they been given the chance to play for Celtic. They would have been more likely to have played for a bigger side had they come to Parkhead and played in Europe first. Put those names against the guys who struggle for top form in our squad and ask if we get value for money especially when we buy in the volumes we do.

Our conversion rate of foreign import to big money transfer is 1 from about 10. Yeh you need to kiss a few frogs but man we must be due a couple of cracking players.

I have this nagging feeling that Peters lack of enthusiasm for buying in Scottish talent is due to a lack of vision on how that could work. It really surprises me given that all he has to do is look at pre falsely inflated Rangers history before Scottish talent was stifled and stopped from progressing at provincial clubs. That chain is in place now and we no longer have Rangers to compete with and have him poach the talent before you lift the phone.

That video gets me every time. I have watched that video a 100 times, and everytime I laugh like I have never seen it before. I saw it recently, tears were streaming down my face … my better half walks in, thinks I’m mental…. so I show it to her. Suffice it to say, she was less amused than I (in fact, she thought I was even more mental!)

  13. In all seriousness, is no one else a bit queasy that Sky have just interviewed a man from his hospital bed.

I think that is pretty disgraceful stuff. It looks like Green consented to the IV (ie, he wasn’t “doorstepped”), but I feel very uncomfortable with the circumstances of this set-up.

How healthy is he, is he under the influence of meds, can he reasonably consent, is the stress of being interviewed going to impact on his health?

Pretty shaky stuff, even for a company as venal as Sky.
