Armstrong, Convicted Dave, playing with fire

1051

News that we are after a second Dundee United midfield player will prove popular, Stuart Armstrong has been tipped for progress for a couple of years.  He is another Ronny Deila-type player, a strong runner who can get up and down the field.  As usual, I’ll reserve judgement until we sign him, and I’ve had a chance to watch him properly.

You have to admire his balls.  Dave King assertion that a conviction for tax fraud is a “favourable settlement” goes beyond parody.  I’m unsure if some PR flop put those words in his head or if he concocted the notion by himself, but just as you cannot shine a turd, it is impossible to spin an undisputed criminal conviction.  He was convicted of criminal offenses.  If this is your measure of favourable, your standards are truly deplorable.

I fail to see why King even is discussing such matters with the media, unless he’s currying favour with the Daily Record.  These assertions will make no difference whatsoever to the stock market, or any reputable nominated adviser, nor will it hold sway with the SFA.  It is also a futile battleground.  In the event King gains control of newco Rangers, he doesn’t need to be a director to exercise de facto control, Paul Murray has been his man for years.  Mike Ashley is not a director, and he owns less than 9% of the club, but he appears to be able to dictate play quite comfortably.

Without a trace of irony, King told the Record: “The enthusiasm that this board adopts to ‘media management’ and its failure to act in the interest of shareholders and other stakeholders is exactly why they should be jettisoned”.

Trying hard to avoid the merest whiff of media management himself, King then added, “History will judge this board as one of the worst the club has ever had. There is not one individual who puts the club above personal interest.”

There you have it folks, our pal Dave is a man you can trust.

Just as the Newco board didn’t have enough on their plate, interim manager Kenny McDowell tendered his notice, although in true ‘Rangers’ tradition, he’s not going without a pay-off.  It’s an added vote of no confidence the regime could do without.  They now face the embarrassing prospect of allowing an interim to remain in control as a lame duck, or put a second manager on gardening leave.

Mike Ashley’s prospects of a successful turnaround look bleak in the face of such uniform and orchestrated antagonism.  I wonder if he’s the kind of man who takes manipulation lightly?  If not, the manipulators are playing with fire.

    Agreed about VvD

    ******

    Yaaay!

    I’ll quit at that!

    PS.

Back in the day, during the Lions era, we went to Parkhead, as it was then, to be entertained, as, more often or not, we expected to win.

A couple of us decided that for a few weeks, we would focus attention on a perticular player.

Jinky, one week, Stevie, the next, etc.

It was only when it came to the day when John Clark was under the microscope that I actually realised what a great player he was.

He seldom tackled, but he was always in position to jockey his man and steal the ball.

Very underrated at the time, as, all the accolades were distributed elsewhere.

To continue with the comparison theme. Neil Lennon had very similar attributes to his game and would have me an excellent sweeper, should it still have been in vogue.

  2. “They’re blaming anaesthetic for the Charles Green interview.”

Not enough given to the viewers??

  3. I’m watching the African Nations cup.

    Mali v Cameroon.

Mali have a left winger called Bachary Sako .

    He has been very good.

Great crosser of the ball ,playing left side of midfield.

    Big unit of a man.

I’ve never heard of him ,so I googled .

    Apparently he plays for Wolves.

Any CQN’rs know anything else about him?

    Also .

John McGlynn should be at these finals.

Interesting Clive Dunn on Clive Dunn media action earlier featuring a puggled Charley Geengo. Sky supporting the Ashley faction with the DR in the tax dodgers camp (I thought that their tax dodger is worse than our tax dodger reasoning was hilarious from Charley). Seems there is an intensification of hostilities and it will be interesting to see how low they stoop.

  5. Tom McLaughlin

no 85, my boy was in that age group but played under 17 and 19s when needed…craig Gordon was the 19s keeper at the time, christoph berra was the captain..

  6. I do not worry when I hear Jim Spence say that no talks have taken place. Nor do I worry when Dundee Utd. say there has been no contact. Time will tell.

There will be probably at least three going and about four coming in.

It’s a big window for RD, got to get it right.

    Keep the Faith!

Yes I think it might do rather well.

We are pre-ordering copies of this week’s Sunday Herald and will be posting them out to Celts in other parts of the UK, in Ireland, around Europe and all over the world first thing on Monday morning.

You can pre-order your copy at http://www.cqnbookstore.com

For those in Scotland, make a point of buying this week’s Sunday Herald and if possible limit yourselves to only buying the Sunday Herald. It will be the one paper which has one page telling the truth…

  9. lennybhoy-i hope you’re right mate, squad needs freshened up,and they need to decide if they are going to back RD,other than loan deals

At his peak, NFL was one of the top defensive midfielders in Europe – right up there with Makelele in my opinion.

People overlooked him as he wasn’t fast, and he had that funny running style. However, his reading of the game was exceptional. He didn’t need to run fast/throw himself into last ditch tackles because his reading of the game was so good that he was usually waiting to intercept the pass – sometimes before the player even made it. A truly underrated defensive star.

Now, when he got the ball … maybe no quite so good. I think of ‘were you there when NFL scored?’ in much the way people used to talk about men landing on the moon! I still remember jumping around like mad when he scored in the 8-1 game.

“It would be a ‘fresh’ liquidation of the holding company”

Begs the question how many times can you be liquidated before you are finally liquidated

For nearly everything bar things god like, its once.

Re Andy from Castlemilk comment, would that be Andy M, has a bright Danny?

Think he may have had a short career with Motherwell.

    Here I am agreeing again

Neil Lennon was a superb defensive midfielder

and John Clark a Celtic Great

  15. I have just seen the Charles green, ahem, interview, with Jim White.

I dunno what to say. Sometimes real life parodies any comedy. No one would have made up that sketch. It’s quite incredible..

  16. DD,

I mind his goal at CP well a couply years ago.

Cifci dink forward. On the chest and then slipped past big fraser.

That was worse than coming up. Lol

  17. Evening all

I feel I must complain about the mocking of that poor, afflicted, Charles Green. This man is known, nay loved, from Sheffield to Dubai to Glasgow and his Christmas broadcast of 2012 remains the most moving thing I have seen since Michael Buerk waa broadcasting from East Africa. He is a good, honest and decent man who has done much to foster Anglo- Chinese relations.

And why do people feel the need to mock the greatest broadcaster alive – Sky’s very own Ed Murrow? Disgraceful and down with this sort of thing.

    You should all be ashamed

  18. Ah….old times (sort of)

Played against John McLuskey when he was st CBC

Seem to remember he was called Friar

    Could hit with both feet

I think big jock took him under his wing and he then had a blood clot or similar

    Some guys might know

    Others…….All Saints Barmulloch secondary
