Armstrong, Convicted Dave, playing with fire

1051

News that we are after a second Dundee United midfield player will prove popular, Stuart Armstrong has been tipped for progress for a couple of years.  He is another Ronny Deila-type player, a strong runner who can get up and down the field.  As usual, I’ll reserve judgement until we sign him, and I’ve had a chance to watch him properly.

You have to admire his balls.  Dave King assertion that a conviction for tax fraud is a “favourable settlement” goes beyond parody.  I’m unsure if some PR flop put those words in his head or if he concocted the notion by himself, but just as you cannot shine a turd, it is impossible to spin an undisputed criminal conviction.  He was convicted of criminal offenses.  If this is your measure of favourable, your standards are truly deplorable.

I fail to see why King even is discussing such matters with the media, unless he’s currying favour with the Daily Record.  These assertions will make no difference whatsoever to the stock market, or any reputable nominated adviser, nor will it hold sway with the SFA.  It is also a futile battleground.  In the event King gains control of newco Rangers, he doesn’t need to be a director to exercise de facto control, Paul Murray has been his man for years.  Mike Ashley is not a director, and he owns less than 9% of the club, but he appears to be able to dictate play quite comfortably.

Without a trace of irony, King told the Record: “The enthusiasm that this board adopts to ‘media management’ and its failure to act in the interest of shareholders and other stakeholders is exactly why they should be jettisoned”.

Trying hard to avoid the merest whiff of media management himself, King then added, “History will judge this board as one of the worst the club has ever had. There is not one individual who puts the club above personal interest.”

There you have it folks, our pal Dave is a man you can trust.

Just as the Newco board didn’t have enough on their plate, interim manager Kenny McDowell tendered his notice, although in true ‘Rangers’ tradition, he’s not going without a pay-off.  It’s an added vote of no confidence the regime could do without.  They now face the embarrassing prospect of allowing an interim to remain in control as a lame duck, or put a second manager on gardening leave.

Mike Ashley’s prospects of a successful turnaround look bleak in the face of such uniform and orchestrated antagonism.  I wonder if he’s the kind of man who takes manipulation lightly?  If not, the manipulators are playing with fire.

CQN11 St Patrick’s Day Dinner Dance is on Friday 13 March, at the Kerrydale Suite, Celtic Park. The focus of an excellent night’s entertainment will be funding the construction of a kitchen at Chibwata Primary School in Malawi, for Mary’s Meals.

Millions of available pounds should ensure Celtic seek to improve our squad, just like proper aspirational clubs do.

Charles Greens antics aside, this whole Ashley pillaging of Scottish football will end in tears.

We have this Fruity King none sense about sponsorship of the SPFL and the same on line media source stating that Fruity King will have naming rights for Ibrox. At the same time the same mentioned company in the same media source wish to sponsor Celtic as well as some sleeping giant North of England clubs.

    What is Ashley at?

  8. Lennybhoy,

I would not underestimate Stokes. He is a very determined player who creates goal and scores as well. I would like him back for the Sevco game.

On John Parks I don’t believe for one second it’s his decision if Celtic spend £2-3M on a player. Lawwell will decide if the deal is right for Celtic commercially ( it’s not just a football decision). If Lawwell does not fancy the player or the price is too high or package is too expensive he lets it die.

In a way it’s similar to Kris Commons. Lawwell has decided it’s a one year deal max. I agree with him on this by the way. This is not Ronnys decision. He states he wants to keep the player. The player can possibly obtain a 2 year deal in England , probably with a better package, so he leaves. Lawwells commercial decision has deprived Ronny of Commons …even for a season.

So altho John Parks may not be delivering a Wanyama, Ledley, Ki, Foster, Hooper every transfer window we have to recognise that real success and failure is with the ultimate decision maker …Mr Lawwell. This also includes managers whether it’s Lenny, Mowbray or Ronny.

Some day he will be held to account for his failures. Another CL qualification failure this summer as he passes go and picks up his Bonus to deliver his £1M/ year package will be one failure too many.

He cannot blame Ronny, John Parks, Willie McStay, John McGlynn. These are his hand picked men to run the football operation and strengthen the Club/ Team.

Peter I hope you get it right for your sake and more importantly Celtics. If your decisions cost us the £30M entry ticket to the CL you will be sacked.

I want to say something to the blog.

In the last year I was more concerned with the Scottish constitutional question on the blog than Celtic.

Many can understand that but I must say that I was aggressive, obnoxiouS AND GENERALLY ANGRY during this time.

If I upset anyone other than those who actually deserve it then I apologize.

I also must say that recently I have been very ill. 2014 was one of the worst years of my life on many levels and recently I thought I might have had cancer. Thankfully I do not and I am eternally grateful for that. I have had a difficult time as many of you can imagine with something like this hanging over my shoulder so if I got on anyone’s wrong side then I hope you understand.

This blog has been a huge part of my life for many years and I am grateful for the love, respect and kindness of many on here. I am not in Scotland but may be back in the next 6 months. The last year has made me reflect on my life and perhaps I will return but as things stand I am unsure.

Despite our differences, we will all always be Celts. I think this is our point of reference.

I do not think anyone doubts my love of Celtic and I know that many of you are some of the best friends I have ever had.

I wish all of you well in the future.

I hope Celtic go on to show we are the best side in Scotland and we win a treble.

Hail Hail and we will see.
