Cut my holiday short to come home and watch the game on Premium sport,(kidding)Biggest improvement for me was being able to understand the logic of our substitutions.

Last season our manager and assistants were unable to react to developments on the field quickly enough to take advantage of it them.

The minute Astana put extra markers on Roberts,Brendan put extra pressure on the left side and then put Forrest on to stretch them further. It then became much easier to make forward passes from midfield so perhaps Bitton shouldn’t be getting all the praise.

Brown may not be technically perfect but very few managers would not have him in their starting eleven. He,s a proper captain and constantly encourages and protects his team mates.

Anyway, looking forward to next weeks squeaky bum affair!

FOXY. When are the tunes coming on ? H.H.

See in the spirit of European football tonight et al I thought I’d ask Astana if they had a DJ like me and was put in contact with Keçi. No kidding. I’ve been asking him/her to send me some tunes for tonight….Am no posting the original stuff cause basically took offence at the fox thing, in the wrong way with the goat connection, but listen to this for starters. musics no bad and they worked hard on the rest so dont take the piss. A couple of their fans are looking in to see what we think and reporting back….

FOXY, That could catch on fella I think it was better than the commentary of the game. H.H.

  9. Anyone who is less than delighted with the result, the performance, the team set up and the manager is surely vying for the “Curmudgeon of the Year” award.

We can nitpick the contribution of players, the loss of a soft goal or individual errors.

However, we can’t ignore the character of this side.

We dominated the early game, I think 60% plus possession in the first 20 mins.

They scored from their first corner and we lost momentum.

However, we recovered, weathering a sticky patch as bhoys grew into men.

PR in particular was a thorn in their side every time he moved down the wing.

The defenders resorted to tackles reminiscent of John Greig.

The second half was a bit too open for me, but we managed the vital away goal thanks to the tenacity of PR and the deadly finish of LG.

I thought we were the side more likely to grab a winner near the end.

Their wingers were fast and could stretch our defenders next week on the wide open wings at Celtic Park.

As I said earlier, I loved Brendan’s positive approach, his flexibility and his willingness to make appropriate changes when needed.

Given, that we had a load of trepidation over our defensive set up, many of our posters slating the players, the manager, the board, the groundsman, the physics, the ball boys and the turnstile operators, I am absolutely thrilled at how well we performed.

Was lookin for you today. Horse and Barge was packed wi cooncil uniforms. :)

  11. KLV – there’s nothing like having an opinion is there? Pointing out the deficiencies of big Efe is fair game and almost required, but pointing out that EOC and CG screwed up for the goal makes me an orc! Priceless.

  12. Delaneys,

no surprised they should go get a real job,

couldnt escape today and got home just at full time

  13. I think a lot of the praise for the subs and the tactics is praise coloured by the result.

I have no doubt that knives were being sharpened and, had it remained at 1:0 or, if they had scored a late winner, as they almost did, we would not be hearing the praise that we are getting.

Brendan, so far, has not imposed a radically different approach. We have played 3 European ties so far- one of them was a hugely embarrassing result where we played with a style that was much less offensive than that shown by Ronny Deila.

In the other two ties- individual brilliance by Paddy Roberts- rescued us from any nervousness we were experiencing.

    Not tactics

    Not subs

Not an overtly more offensive or pressing style.

We all want Brendan to succeed but please do not read things there that are not there yet. He has had precious little time to make a difference. This is largely the team and the style that was so disappointing in Ronny’s 2nd season.

I have hopes that the availability of good players- free of injury and the greater choice of forward players’ styles that we have- especially if Bamford arrives-will lead very soon to improved play. That, and Paddy playing with the benefit of last year behind him, should see us do better.

But this is still a 6 out of 10 team. If we start proclaiming them as a 9 out of 10 team, we will leave no room on the scale for the improvement that is YET to come.

Enjoyed the match. A few of the Efe haters annoyed me. The looks I got when I yelled ” Mon the Efe effin Ambrose.” Was funny.

  16. Delighted with our result.

Very good performance from EO’C and KT who are only 2 young cubs.

  17. I would take legia all day long. I think that result has loomed large over the club for the last couple of years and to beat them over 2 legs would maybe let us move on.

Don’t you think BR’s choice of an attack minded side made a difference?

Likewise his formation at CP against the Imps was aggressive and positive?

Hi substitutions today were excellent, even Forrest as he stretched their defence across the pitch.

I couldn’t see the side Ronny left picking themselves up as we did today.

There are improvements in team spirit as well, witnessed by the reaction when KT had a ball blasted at him at the end.

Sure we have work to do.

Sure we will need to dump a few and bring in a couple more.

    Howevva, as per Kojo,

We are on the right road.

    Be happy be positive

  24. Almore, I’ll make contact with Clogher and exchange Moby Numbers, it would be good to say Hello.

I’m just planning to get a bus or train up. I’ll be knocking around for a few hours before the game but I’ll be heading home fairly sharpish after game.

You’re right, I’m sitting here listening to Paddy Reilly with a drink in my hand and thinking of the next round already.

Just the fact we came through today with a decent European result gives me hope and I think if we could draw and beat the poles, it would really mark a change in Europe from that most crushing 2 legged defeat.

You might think I’m crazy, but I think the players who played in that game have been affected by the manner in which we got beat there.
