    Good man! Enjoy.

Hope your optimism is realised and we are drawn against Legia. Would fancy our chances against them.

Sorry I’m just in, I was with a mate from Glasgow who arrived today for Saturday’s game! There are a few bhoys staying in Clogherhead this weekend:)) I think there’s 3 buses going from Drogheda.

I will give you a call tomorrow and liaise with Almore, and we’ll organise to meet up on Saturday

“Anyone who is less than delighted with the result, the performance, the team set up and the manager is surely vying for the “Curmudgeon of the Year” award. –

Think SFTB just claimed the prize! :-)))))”

Nope- I have expressed my full delight at the Result.

I saw nothing special in the performance, the team set up or the manager.

And I added the caveat- Thus far

And I added the further caveat- wait and see until he generates real improvement in the team.

It was an attempt to inject realism – not to dampen delight. I honestly think people are seeing things that are not there. But I am positive that they soon will be.

I think that my statement from yesterday that we were weak in the air defensively and offensively was shown to be accurate tonight.

The goal we lost showed this ,and we had zero aerial threat from our forward line today.

Your analysis of us being weak in the heiders department is spot on. Big Mik is probably our best. How often does he header in a game though?

  13. RVP wanted to sign for TRFC as much as I wanted to cover myself in honey and throw stones at a bee hive.

  14. Tiny Tim

The reservations you expressed on the announcement of the Dembele signing are looking valid.

I’m hoping the lad just needs a goal or two to gain confidence but he’s going to have to toughen up a bit.

He’s been taking one touch too many and he’s lacking composure.

Big responsibility on his shoulders but he’s not shown a lot to date.

  15. Curmudgeon

What my children call me when I say no.

To be fair my grandchildren like this part of me. ;-)

  16. In 9 games since June 30th Celtic have won 4, drawn 4 and lost* just one, that being to probably the weakest of the nine opponents (excluding penalty shoot-outs). Our European away record across those games reads just one defeat from six away games.

I don’t think Barcelona have played any games yet in this pre-season, but for direct comparison purposes they lost 3 of their final 9 games last season.

Barca will be quaking in their boots ahead of Saturday’s match!

    ;o)

  17. Good result today, with some of the usual positives and negatives around.

Midfield remains our biggest challenge area – need some midfielders with greater physical attributes to complement the likes of Roberts.

For me both Armstrong and McGregor are ineffective when the going gets tough. Brown will never hide, but wary that he is not exactly at his best.

Nir Biton is an interesting one – often appears to have no appetite, but thought he was excellent when he came on. Would love to have Brown’s appetite and attitude transplanted into him. Will say we did retain the ball much better with him and Rogic on the pitch. If Rodgers can get best out of Biton he could still be a player.

Up field, Roberts is such a talent we need to focus on getting the best from him. Some sublime touches. Dembele, needs games before we can judge. Poor game today though. Griff…..what can you say, struggled for large parts but brilliant finish.

Decent mention to all the back 4. Didn’t hide, caused a few scary moments, got a bit of the rub of the green, but stuck to the task. Given the centre backs are probably 4th and 5th choice they did ok.

Should win the return leg! Fingers crossed.

“Don’t you think BR’s choice of an attack minded side made a difference?”

To what? It did not produce a performance but it did get a result. And we got our goal when we had taken off one of our front two.

“Likewise his formation at CP against the Imps was aggressive and positive?”

Hard to tell- his intention may have been so but so was Ronny’s. Turning intention into reality is what is needed. Against the Imps- we rarely troubled and we were often discomfited.

“His substitutions today were excellent, even Forrest as he stretched their defence across the pitch.”

At the time they were made- they were not applauded. that was my point- posters on here took their view from the result and not from the performance- and they adjusted our post-match verdict accordingly. Forrest did the same thing in the Imps tie at CP and in our friendly but he was still being slated, as was the manager, before the match and at the point of the substitution for being quite blatantly the wrong choice- even to be there- far less to play.

“I couldn’t see the side Ronny left picking themselves up as we did today.”

His first season side had no problem in doing so. I agree about last year’s side but I disagree that there was any remarkable resilience today. We got a goal when we were under the cosh- between their goal and ours, we were second best- not by much- but obviously so. Between the 19th and the 78th minute- we were not that great- a few individuals excepted. that’s most of the match.

“There are improvements in team spirit as well, witnessed by the reaction when KT had a ball blasted at him at the end.”

Stretching it there- there were plenty of player support reactions last season- they were just interpreted differently as indiscipline and players getting distracted.

“Sure we have work to do.”

    Agreed

“Sure we will need to dump a few and bring in a couple more.”

    Agreed

    “Howevva, as per Kojo,

We are on the right road.”

Far, far , far , far too early to tell with any confidence.

    “Be happy be positive”

I am both of those things but I do not get swept away with delusional thinking. That was a great result but we are seeing things that are not there- and I repeat for those that mistake realism for pessimism- We are not there or close to there yet.

But I am confident we CAN get there- we will see the evidence replace the faith soon enough.

  22. Is big Erik expected back next week ?

Feel sorry for Rodgers, deila and even Lennon to an extent

Players like Armstrong , GMS, bitton , johannson , Forrest and many others over the past few seasons (kayal) all have a great game or 2 and we think they have turned a corner , or look to be a real player. Then they let you down.

Sounds like Armstrong is the most recent, must be very frustrating for a manager , not knowing which player will turn up.

Go to the top of the class TT. O’Connell was caught ball watching and as soon as the ball went in the net I knew you would be on tonight to say you were right.

I didn’t see us crossing the ball or humping it hopefully into their box tonight so the offensive weakness in the air was not put to the test. I did think Dembele won a fair few in the air from kick outs but to be honest my picture was so poor I can’t give a proper assessment of the game.

Find you to be one of the most pessimistic posters on here so I’m happy you are happy about todays result.

As far as I can see the RVP to rangers story is on HITC- a site that has never yet knowingly stated anything correctly in its entire history.

Rangers finances are opaque- they can be both skint- in legitimate business terms- and yet able to get hold of money from dubious sources to wash through the Ibrox books. They have never shown much regard for regulation and legality under any of their recent chairmen and majority shareholders.

  26. Re Dembele

I remember when I was about 14/15, we signed a big striker who had a good touch, was always sniffing about the right areas but just couldn’t buy a goal.

All the usual media hacks were writing him off as a dud.

Then, if my memory serves me right, and if it doesn’t feel free to correct me, we were playing the jam huns in the league.

He knocked it one way then the other, and smashed one into the corner of the net.

And the legend of Pierre can Hooidonk was born.

  27. Geordie

Oh no worries bud. I’m hopeful he’s going to come good. There are valid concerns though I feel over what he’s offered to date.
