Attitude for Tynecastle

2311

I watched Hearts batter Pat Fenlon’s Hibs into submission at Easter Road last month.  They are not a good team but they have elbows and commitment, often the key resources in a football game.  With our interest in the League Cup and Europe curtailed, and the league title a sure thing, it is enormously important that we remain in the Scottish Cup into the New Year.

Attitude is the most important attribute for Celtic this weekend.

Things you don’t expect to do when you start blogging: I took four calls from journos yesterday asking if I knew a Celtic fan prepared to go on record as an IRA supporter!  I don’t, for the record, not one, so no one else should bother checking.  Lack of support for that organisation and, where support exists, an awareness that representing yourself as such, is not inconsequential, will explain the dearth.  Just as it’s not inconsequential when you represent your club.  I can’t see many inviting the consequences.

I also got a call yesterday and a faxed copy of a contemporary Celtic View (yes, a fax) from a fan who was beside Jock Stein when he went into the crowd at Annfield that day in 1972.  It was all very cordial, of course, no one argued with Jock.

Jock was at the height of his powers.  Five years from the European Cup win, two from his last final and four months since losing a European Cup semi-final on penalties, he had yet to lose a league as Celtic manager.  His comment in the View, “The Wreckers are chanting about things that have nothing to do with football” was respected, Celtic fans went back to football matters.  But this was 1972.  News from Ireland was despairing.  Rangers fans (and according to newspaper reports, Hearts fans) were chanting “UDA” without censure, Celtic fans eventually retorted.

This is all sooo last century, apart from the consequences, of course.

Sharp focus for Sunday…

I think it’s why he aired his views, what he thought they would achieve, who ordered him to air his views and why he remains mute and deaf to other racist, sectarian chanting that is of utmost importance to celtic fans.

He needs the right of reply. It’s that simple. He offered the opportunity, CQN accepted and WC and BRTH facilitated. Now for some unfashionable reason the interview is of no relevance etc.

As an observation I’d suggest several posters in the GB debate would align themselves more with Wee Ratty , than you or I .

  8. Oh that’s okay then, let’s ask our parish priests to step down from the alter next Sunday and have the local blow-hard Orangeman take his place and explain to us why we’re all sectarian bigots.

He used a certain platform to castigate the Celtic Support bigoted, I don’t thin CQN is yet as global as the BBC. Let Pat Nevin use the BBC to explain himself, to the same audience he used to call you a bigot. I think that is fair, don’t you.

Why do you think he is being given a platform by cqn to insult celtic and celtic fans?

  15. Canamalar.. all the parties involved in the war in the north (british army, loyalists and republicans) are guilty and have blood on their hands. Nobody in their right mind can argue otherwise. Some are more guilty than others and it will depend on your viewpoint as to where the majority of the blame lies.

I said before that I would say nothing about the Nevin interview until it was published but let me explain something.

WE are forced to do our own journalism because there is every chance that there are things that are reported and indeed happen which are neither fully explained nor even looked at by the MSM.

If we accept the Charlotte fakes accounts, then the media has been dumbed down and manipulated for years.

I believe that to be true.

A request was made by us to Pat Nevin for an interview and he accepted.

Now you can like Nevin as a player, a person, a pundit or whatever, or you can dislike him as a player, a person, a pundit or whatever– the choice is yours.

However, before even approaching Pat Nevin for an interview certain information had come to our possession from other sources which suggested that an interview with Pat Nevin would be interesting.

Not only that… he was happy to agree as he had offered to go to various Celtic Supporters Clubs to do question and answer sessions but none had taken him up on that offer as at the time of interview.

What Pat nevin had to say confirmed the information we had received previously and more— further he was able to explain something about his own personal circumstances which I knew but had forgotten…. and then talked about stuff that is neither widely known and not necessarily for public print.

He also talked a fair bit about football and Celtic– his time at Chelsea, Everton and Tranmere– favourite players, games, racism, the act, Ireland and what have you.

He also answered the strictly come dancing question.

In short — he ducked nothing!

Now– I want the magazine to go and ask some folk some difficult questions– and that might mean getting interviews with some difficult and even unpopular people– even non Celtic people.

I have suggested that CQN magazine interview someone from the Green Brigade in the last few days.

In response I have been told that CQN is a closed shop, a forum for “Soup Takers” and “diet” tims and so on ……… in between there hs been some reasonable discussion with some folk on twitter but others take the view that this forum is for the prawn sandwich brigade and for board backers and sychophants.

Now, no one from the GB ( officially said any of this ) and others simply become abusive and suggest you are some kind of puppet for asking questions or expressing an opinion someone else finds diffucult.

Can I suggest that you wait and see what is in the Nevin interview and see what he says— and I in return will reveal what I think about what he said and his views.

It will only be my opinion mind— and that opinion is not worth more than any other— but we did ask some awkward questions– and to be honest got some awkward answers.

What I will say is that Pat Nevin has received lots of abuse from Celtic fans over the last year– some of it was very uncomfortable to listen to…… but listen to it we did, think about it we did, and report it we will.

By the way– if I have anything to do with it, Nevin will not be the most uncomfortable interview we conduct…….. not by a long way.
