Attitude for Tynecastle

2311

I watched Hearts batter Pat Fenlon’s Hibs into submission at Easter Road last month.  They are not a good team but they have elbows and commitment, often the key resources in a football game.  With our interest in the League Cup and Europe curtailed, and the league title a sure thing, it is enormously important that we remain in the Scottish Cup into the New Year.

Attitude is the most important attribute for Celtic this weekend.

Things you don’t expect to do when you start blogging: I took four calls from journos yesterday asking if I knew a Celtic fan prepared to go on record as an IRA supporter!  I don’t, for the record, not one, so no one else should bother checking.  Lack of support for that organisation and, where support exists, an awareness that representing yourself as such, is not inconsequential, will explain the dearth.  Just as it’s not inconsequential when you represent your club.  I can’t see many inviting the consequences.

I also got a call yesterday and a faxed copy of a contemporary Celtic View (yes, a fax) from a fan who was beside Jock Stein when he went into the crowd at Annfield that day in 1972.  It was all very cordial, of course, no one argued with Jock.

Jock was at the height of his powers.  Five years from the European Cup win, two from his last final and four months since losing a European Cup semi-final on penalties, he had yet to lose a league as Celtic manager.  His comment in the View, “The Wreckers are chanting about things that have nothing to do with football” was respected, Celtic fans went back to football matters.  But this was 1972.  News from Ireland was despairing.  Rangers fans (and according to newspaper reports, Hearts fans) were chanting “UDA” without censure, Celtic fans eventually retorted.

This is all sooo last century, apart from the consequences, of course.

Sharp focus for Sunday…

  1. Why would this interview be censored ?

When will it be published in full on CQN ?

Will the full list of questions be published ?

    If not, why not ?

This is an extremely important issue for the entire Celtic family.

A so called journalist, who insulted the Celtic support on live television should be put firmly on the spot.

So tell me this mate, and then I’ll happily shut up… is the CQN interview with Pat Nevin going to go out to the world on the BBC?

  4. CQN is a closed shop, a forum for “Soup Takers” and “diet” tims and so on ……… in between there has been some reasonable discussion with some folk on twitter but others take the view that this forum is for the prawn sandwich brigade and for board backers and sycophants.

“Think you misread SFTB posts he was content on the number of youngsters being played in our team these days. The rest of us think that Lenny has failed in playing out youth players.”

I think the mis-reading is yours. My point is that Neil Lennon has his own view about the mix of youth and experience that is best for his aims and on the timing of when this should occur.

Your views and my views differ from his; three Celtic people= three or more Celtic views.

Only one of these three people get sacked if he gets it wrong.

You attribute that to Neil’s fear. I call it his responsibility and I do not want that responsibility to fall on Jackie Mac’s shoulders just because Jackie plays young players at Dundee United.

    Ok I’ll try again.

Why in your mind have you came to the logical conclusion that cqn, a platform for celtic fans, has interviewed pat nevin, a self confessed non celtic fan, so that he can promote his anticeltic views?

There is an alternative that he has been interviewed to challenge his views and to get on record the reasons why he felt so comfortable to air these views when he remains silent on other issues.

    I believe the latter.

    robcfc,

No doubt about it but my theory is that the viewpoints are learned and determined by the educational/cultural background and I believe is the cause of the polarization within the Celtic support when discussed, this is when we see most people entrenched and claiming Celtic should not be claiming any Irish heritage as we are a Scottish club or that we should pick and choose which parts of the Irish heritage we should celebrate. If you claim any heritage its only reasonable you claim it all warts and all, you cant cherry pick as some would have us do.

When you consider that the Irish were the first to chase the vikings from these isles after 400 years and brought an end to their tyranny but refuse to accept that they also chased the British empire after 800 years of tyranny are worth including in that heritage then that is the result of the double standards caused by the dilemma of educational/cultural background, and does not equate with the open to all ethos.

  12. A Nevin interview is a pre-requisite if any Celtic blog is worth it’s salt. You can ask the question(s) everyone else would like to ask.The responses/answers will tell you a lot. I would back the right of an Orangeman to walk in a parade. I wouldn’t back his right to do it whenever he wants. There’s a big difference.

Toleration is a big asset when looking at beliefs.Hence Pat Nevin is asked for and has given an interview. It’s better than shouting at the television.

However–tolerance can be broken.Nevin was playing to his employers,BBC Scotland, along with McClean who himself needs no fiscal incentive to put his bigotry on show.

Ban BBC Scotland from Celtic Park, and then when they complain, ask why thy took no notice of similar action by Sevco.

Take no truck with the MSM.

Ban their ads at the ground.

Take no ads in their papers.

This might seem adversarial but being nice hasn’t worked.

    ———————————————————————————————————————

7 of these do not get a game????”

All 10 have got a game. They were then evaluated and played when in form and dropped when Neil considered they were not in form or not ready. You can only play 11 to 14 each week. Currently, the first 3 are regularly picked when fit. Until a few weeks ago, Pukki would have made that tally 4. If you wait for team development a few months, you might find Biton, Rogic or Balde might have forced their way in but that could be at the expense of one of the 3 current regulars dropping out as injured or off form. Two of the 7 are playing regularly, albeit for Elfsborg and Lierse but, if they develop as players there, Celtic can still benefit.

As I say, you can only play 11 to 14 each week. You can complain that the other 11 players in the squad are “failures of a signing policy” or you can see them as spare parts for your car or prototypes in development.

No, Forrest has flattered to deceive on that right hand side far too often. Eventually, Lenny will see that. Lustig/Forrest, aside from being a mediocre pairing, have accrued 26/42 points in games. Not good enough.

Lustig/Commons on the other hand – 24/27 points, and consistently excellent.

Why didn’t CQN just hire a priest to hear Pat Nevin’s confession because at the end of the day the silence of the words will prevail. Or is CQN Nevin’s confessional? Am I expected to absolve him of his global crassness because he chose to answer questions posed by you and others from CQN?
