Attitude for Tynecastle

2311

I watched Hearts batter Pat Fenlon’s Hibs into submission at Easter Road last month.  They are not a good team but they have elbows and commitment, often the key resources in a football game.  With our interest in the League Cup and Europe curtailed, and the league title a sure thing, it is enormously important that we remain in the Scottish Cup into the New Year.

Attitude is the most important attribute for Celtic this weekend.

Things you don’t expect to do when you start blogging: I took four calls from journos yesterday asking if I knew a Celtic fan prepared to go on record as an IRA supporter!  I don’t, for the record, not one, so no one else should bother checking.  Lack of support for that organisation and, where support exists, an awareness that representing yourself as such, is not inconsequential, will explain the dearth.  Just as it’s not inconsequential when you represent your club.  I can’t see many inviting the consequences.

I also got a call yesterday and a faxed copy of a contemporary Celtic View (yes, a fax) from a fan who was beside Jock Stein when he went into the crowd at Annfield that day in 1972.  It was all very cordial, of course, no one argued with Jock.

Jock was at the height of his powers.  Five years from the European Cup win, two from his last final and four months since losing a European Cup semi-final on penalties, he had yet to lose a league as Celtic manager.  His comment in the View, “The Wreckers are chanting about things that have nothing to do with football” was respected, Celtic fans went back to football matters.  But this was 1972.  News from Ireland was despairing.  Rangers fans (and according to newspaper reports, Hearts fans) were chanting “UDA” without censure, Celtic fans eventually retorted.

This is all sooo last century, apart from the consequences, of course.

Sharp focus for Sunday…

I stand by my comment about that little runt Nevin and my disappointment at cqn giving him a piece in the cqn magazine..

    Good morming and goofbye..

thats the type of player we need

foot on the ball midfielder who likes to move the play forward

though if we carry on our recent strategy of not signing goalscorers then such a player would be wasted on us

aye you know the number one tim area in Clydebank alright

albeit rest of the town is not too far behind us!

Ever wondered why Clydebank was so one sided?

I saw an old schoolmate of mine last week in the Scotia. He looked well drunk and I didnt bother saying hello. The poor guy is one of the Clutha fatalities.

    RIP.

  6. That was the 2nd worse result in the history of Motherwell FC, only beaten by the abject capitulation and humiliation to a brand new 3rd division team last season.

Well I expect a tough physical game today the young Hearts team are full of running the match being at Tynecastle and the need for money will give them all the motivation they need.We need to be up for the game and to move the ball about with pace I think we will just edge a hard fought cup-tie 0-2 for the Hoops. H.H.

I’d be surprised if Gauld was interested in coming to us ….he will look at our managers refusal to play young ,promising players …and realise that he wouldn’t get a game

  9. Reading NL comments yesterday re bringing in new players in January in prep for qualifier’s , cant agree more as left scratching for players just before or during isn’t ideal, got me thinking what we need etc,

FF- Great shot stopper but doesn’t command his box, would take 6 mill upwards and I believe we could easily replace him.

Lustig- great addition and very capable.

Matthew’s- As above though I would play him further up field in place of Forrest IMO.

VVD- Quality and probably the best Centre half I have seen since Paul Elliot.

EF- I have a soft spot for Efi though he’s a bomb scare at times, would have no qualms about these two being our paring though would ideally like another commanding no nonsense CH beside VVD.

Izzy- Best game in a lot time v Milan, need more of that, would like to see another LB purchased to keep him on his toes.

Ledley- Will be off without a doubt!!

Brown- not creative enough though will do the holding role fine next year.

Mulgrew- I see Charlie as a Jackie Mac, Non specific though does a decent enough job where asked.

Forrest- would sell him for anything close to 5 -6 ,doesn’t do it enough (in flashes pardon the punt) and too injury prone IMHO SPL level player, TBH against your Ajax Barca Milan I cant remember him really getting passed his man.

Kayal- Never recovered from Elbows Tackle, Doesn’t do nearly enough, I would sell him!

Derk- Empty shirt!! the guy offers nothing and rarely offers himself for a pass, was bought to appease us unfortunately ( p.s Ajax don’t sell quality unless for silly money!!)

Pukki- Jury certainly out though I think he could maybe do a job behind the front two!!

Balde- I watch him before games warming up, cudnae trap a bag o cement but happy to give him time.

Stokes-SPL level player IMHO wasn’t trusted by NL before hand in Europe or old firm games , sums up where we are to be honest in terms of lack of depth or quality signed!

Commons- Our most creative player by a mile and arguably our biggest goal threat.

Biton, Watt, Rogic etc etc need game time.

This isn’t me slating us, I am being honest that in order for us to compete in qualifiers and if lucky Champ league then IMHO these points need addressed , though until such times I would continue to support each and every player who is lucky enough to wear the hoops!!

we need a new keeper , Left back, a creative midfielder or two and two good Strikers.

we have become pedestrian as a team devoid of creativity, Have we ever replaced Mc Stay and slightly more recently Lubo ??? We can have all the Hoopers we want BUT he wont be much use without intelligent build up play and service to him!!

C,mon NL you asked for thunder to return!! Give us thunder on the park please!!

    Hail Hail!!

Pretty good summation Maestro (although I still think Forrest will come good…..and if he does he will be a superstar).

If we could sell Forster (7m), Kayal (2m), Boerrighter (1.5m) and Bangura (0.5m) it would bring in some funds and clear some space for new players.

I would like a replacement for Forster, a creative midfielder and one striker (over time I would like to replace Stokes too but not until the first striker comes in and hopefully succeeds).

  14. Has the rat Nevin’s CQN interview been published yet ?

Have we saw a transcript of the interview ?

Morning all – let’s hope a positive result today puts an end to a bad week for all.

Condolences to all involved in the Clutha Tragedy.

What´s the problem with no strikers? Thought Spain won the Euros without playing one.

  17. Nevin should be strapped to a chair with a bright light shining in his eyes, and whacked on the back of the head whenever he gives an unsatisfactory answer to a specific question during his interrogation!

  19. Tallybhoy,

I wouldn’t be as lenient with him.

He should be put firmly on the spot with regards to his Cup Final remarks, and also his comments about why he stopped supporting Celtic.

And also why he has NEVER publicly criticised the bigotry at Ibrox.

  20. Right, a sheet, a shave, a shower, get the breky on, iron ma gear, taxi, Pick up the troops, Brazen Heed, Celtic Win, listen to a bit of rebel (it’s allowed, in the proper place) give the GB lovers pelters when they come back fi Tyncastle ( bless um ) , get mad wi it (the bevy) another taxi, drop the troops off, get stuck inti my remanded stovies, turn on the telly, faw asleep (waken up around 4am) go an have a slash, jump into my kip, get up around 9 am, square the Cassa up, get shifted inti new gear, head down to the Oasis, get blootered there cause it ma burthday). Head back up the road with a chinky (food that is) feck me, it’s like ground hog day all over again, I love my life, bet you young guys canny wait ti retire, lol.

  21. Michael Laudrup seems to have an excellent eye for strikers. Maybe we should be looking at whoever he’s after. Particularly from Spain.

Agree with the above summation of the squad although I still have hope for Pukki, but feel he isn’t a leader and needs a good experienced striker next to him, which we don’t have. Think Derk gets overly criticised as well, but does look the type who only plays when he wants/when we’re winning.

  22. Remember Blackadder interrogating Captain Darling in the army hospital when he was hunting the spy?

Thats how Rat Nevin should be questioned on his lack of integrity over the years
