Attitude for Tynecastle

2311

I watched Hearts batter Pat Fenlon’s Hibs into submission at Easter Road last month.  They are not a good team but they have elbows and commitment, often the key resources in a football game.  With our interest in the League Cup and Europe curtailed, and the league title a sure thing, it is enormously important that we remain in the Scottish Cup into the New Year.

Attitude is the most important attribute for Celtic this weekend.

Things you don’t expect to do when you start blogging: I took four calls from journos yesterday asking if I knew a Celtic fan prepared to go on record as an IRA supporter!  I don’t, for the record, not one, so no one else should bother checking.  Lack of support for that organisation and, where support exists, an awareness that representing yourself as such, is not inconsequential, will explain the dearth.  Just as it’s not inconsequential when you represent your club.  I can’t see many inviting the consequences.

I also got a call yesterday and a faxed copy of a contemporary Celtic View (yes, a fax) from a fan who was beside Jock Stein when he went into the crowd at Annfield that day in 1972.  It was all very cordial, of course, no one argued with Jock.

Jock was at the height of his powers.  Five years from the European Cup win, two from his last final and four months since losing a European Cup semi-final on penalties, he had yet to lose a league as Celtic manager.  His comment in the View, “The Wreckers are chanting about things that have nothing to do with football” was respected, Celtic fans went back to football matters.  But this was 1972.  News from Ireland was despairing.  Rangers fans (and according to newspaper reports, Hearts fans) were chanting “UDA” without censure, Celtic fans eventually retorted.

This is all sooo last century, apart from the consequences, of course.

Sharp focus for Sunday…

  1. Pat Nevin said he would speak to Celtic supporters at any time to discuss the lies that we’re said about our support that day at Hampden.

As far as I knew he had not spoken to us so if it was a double bluff it worked.

I thought I would see if he meant it so sent him a few messages. When he responded I advised CQN and asked for questions that Celtic supporters wanted asked. I did this on the CQN Magazine Facebook page. Myself and BRTH met Pat Nevin at the Grosvenor Hotel on Byres Road a few weeks ago. All the CQN questions were asked including asking him if he was a soup taker. All questions were answered and from this we get an insight into the insult we collectively suffered at the hands of the national public sector broadcaster. Nevin’s interview is worth the read in my opinion but I respect the position of others who would prefer not to read it or even to boycott the paid for bits of CQN( the Nevin interview will be in the free magazine). What won’t happen is that we will be intimidated into withdrawing the interview by one poster on a Saturday night.

I found it interesting, what I took from it more than anything was two things:

1.)Judge a book by its cover at your folly

2.) Never, ever, believe you are better than another human, unless you’ve lived their life.

Weeminger , I wasn’t wanting to start the oul song book debate rather discuss NL’s comments. Wasn’t sure if any other manager , apart from Mr Stein, had done anything similar.

You are like the relative who turns up at Christmas that everyone tries not to speak to, now be a good lad and go and put on your balaclava, grt your action man machine gun and go and paly with the traffic, You are a hun with a celtic scarf ( if you actually know where Celtic park is )

    ===

S&M you continue to validate my claim that you are nothing but a thick as sh*te eejit HUN. You contribute nothing to this blog apart from inane insults about people wearing balaclavas or carrying weapons! I do not care how long you have been posting on here or how many times you claim you were pissed on in the jungle. You are the very worst species of HUN – that is those who don’t actually realise the are one – spout the same nonsense as the huns have the same mid set of a hun but hide behind a green and white scarf.

Do us both a major favour – ignore my posts and I will show you the same courtesy in the future and leave numerous other posters to remind you of what you are.

I’m of the same mind as you.

Why don’t we all just kiss Pat Nevin’s poxy arse and be done with it.

As a matter of fact why don’t we all just kneel down on our knees and one by one whilst we’re down there we blow Nevin away.

Doesn’t sound as if his backside was kissed. I am looking forward to reading the answers.

I’m convinced there is more to this story. Pat nevin isn’t clever enough to be part of a cover up. Target the rent a gub weak link in the chain.

Winning captain, I hope it doesn’t disappoint.

Anyone got a link to Calvin Miller’s goal in the Victory Shield?

I don’t have a link but I saw the goal.

The English keeper made a howler of it. He plucked the ball out of the air but as he fell to the ground the ball slipped out of his hands. Calvin was right next to him and he managed to dig the ball out of the keeper’s grasping hands and stick the ball in the net. Not pretty but it counts!

    WINNING CAPTAINS

When Nevin said he would discuss it with any Celtic fan,I doubt he expected the likes of BRT&H to turn up.

I hope he got battered roasted and grilled!

  12. The Honest Mistake

    BRTH said it was astonishing.

Nevin was clearly apprehensive about meeting us. The reason I chased him was because I would get so annoyed seeing him on the TV – I said to his face that he was regarded as being up there with the Tracksuit Resetter. Before we publish myself, BRTH and Paul will read it and approve it. Does anyone think that we are going to let anything go or be anti the Celtic support. Never been called a Hun on here yet, maybe now is my chance?

  13. mon the hoops

    hope paul’s ok

apart from bbc, anybody got a link to a website with updated news on the crash

  14. El maestro.. good balanced view of the squad. Problem will be getting anyone to take one or two of them. I doubt we would get anywhere near 5 or 6m for forrest. Always injured and is a wee boy lost in europe. A few others will probably be allowed to go on freedom of contract. Pukki and commons playing off balde might be worth a try. Both clever players but not out and out strikers. We dont need 4 at the back in the spfl. lustig, Virgil and efe can do the defending or charlie for efe to balance it and efe in front of the back 3. Brown ahead of him and izzi and matthews on the touchlines in advanced roles to stretch 10 men defences..IMO

  15. Morning Bhoys , massive game today.Dread to think of the ramifications if we dont.

Have more than enough for a 4/5 nil victory .

Depends on the team selection and which Celtic turn up.

Anyway, one things for certain, we better be up for the fight coz the cousins always are and any encouragement we give them , they will make count .

    Hopefully, class will tell.

Guess u can see I ain’t majorly confident.

    Hoping for the best!!

I wasn’t particularly offended by it,though another poster felt strongly enough to make that very point.

But I certainly disagree with it.

A fair few posters on here are from the same educational background which you derided. But…..

It’s your opinion, and you are entitled to it.

  23. winning captains:

Are you going to censor his response… then what is the point in interviewing him?

It’s a pity he didn’t censor himself and even more so that the BBC did not see fit to censor him or offer a belated apology.

Do you really believe for one minute that CQN reaches the parts that the doesn’t….

Everybody to there own mate, everybody to their own for their own reasons too, but mate, just my own opinion, just my words, but you are supping with the worst kind of bigot, the bought bigot, you’re sitting at the table with a latter day Judas, for why you reconcile that with yourself, but for me personally… I am both disappointed and disgusted, that is just the way I feel.

If you are okay with sharing the cup, then be my guest. But for why? Why?

Can you give me simple, understandable, reasons why you’d invite such a character into your house after he defamed your family to the whole world.

Because Celtic Supporters sang rebel songs within earshot of his son. That vindicates his global contempt of a club, a culture and a demographic.

I would not be surprised if Nevin stood for election and he stood on an anti-Catholic, anti-Irish platform.

Not that I believe either is a pre-requisite to being a Celtic Supporter but it comes across in some of his offerings that you can’t be unless you are.

    THE HONEST MISTAKE.

    I don’t think he’s stupid.

    Not as such.

But he’s not the intellectual heavyweight that we have all been lead to believe.

Wearing glasses and reading The Guardian won’t deter the intrepid BRT&H. I reckon this could be the funniest interview since Billy Connolly first went onto Parkinson.

  25. Oliver what do you think about Celtic Supporters?

Well to put it bluntly – they’re all papist bastards….

Excuse me gents, enjoy you wine but I’ve got a boat to catch for Ireland and some necessary culling of these papist bastards we have been belching about.
