Audit, administer, delegate

796

The comment in today’s Telegraph by Joe Ledley confirming that, in the event they win the league early, Celtic have considered giving players some extended rest period before the end of the season has a lot of focus about it.

We have Champions League qualifiers starting on 2 July and hopefully extending six games later in the last week in August, all plans must be made with the objective of being as strong as possible for these games.

Last season APOEL Nicosia got through the Champions League group stages, beat Lyon in the last 16, before being stopped in the quarters by Real Madrid, but their European adventure this season was ended in August by Neftchi Baku.  Rangers run to the Uefa Cup final in 2008 was quickly followed by an August elimination at the hands of the mighty Kaunas.  We don’t need reminded of what happened in 2005, when the club formerly known as Artmedia Bratislava, and no longer playing top flight football, caught Celtic cold.  Five times.

I’m keen to hear from Celtic on policing and stewarding at games. The club have to be attentive to all season ticket holders who feel they have been poorly treated, by police or stewards. Processes to deal with such matters must be open to supporter groups to audit, perhaps even to administer. Delegate thus, and you resolve many concerns.

The Lions Roar event at the Kerrydale Suite on 1 March, with a film of the 1967 European Cup final, will have commentary from Bertie Auld, Stevie Chalmers, Bobby Lennon, Jim Craig, John Fallon, Charlie Gallacher, Billy McNeill, John Clark and John Hughes.  Mike Jackson will also be there with Billy.  Tickets went on sale six days ago and there are only a few left…..

  1. I see a sun exlusive in the last hour stating

Police Officer Tommy McCrindle has been pulled of his duties

His facebook page had quoted him as

” Fume and pest contol & termite contol

  2. bmcd48

I wrote this yesterday I guess where there is smoke there is fire or in McCrindles case fumes

I doubt officer Mc Crindle moonlights for Rentokil

And I doubt its just bugs he fumes

Someone should ask him for more details about that full time pest control job

  3. A SPECIALIST footie cop who monitors Celtic fans has been pulled off his duties — amid claims he described his job as “pest control”.

Top brass are probing anti-hooliganism officer Tommy McCrindle after the jibe reportedly appeared on his Facebook site.

Under the “Works At” category on his profile page, the officer appeared to have written: “Fume-a -Pest & Termite Control”.

And following a complaint from the club, Strathclyde Police hauled the married dad-of-two off frontline Hoops duties.

Last night Scottish Tory chief whip John Lamont said: “It is wrong for an officer to refer to anyone they are responsible for policing in these terms.”

And a Celtic spokesman revealed: “We have raised the matter with the police and believe it will be addressed.”

PC McCrindle, 37, from Kilmarnock, serves in the Football Co-ordination Unit for Scotland — set up by the SNP to police hooliganism and bigotry laws brought in last year.

He was assigned this season to watch the Green Brigade, a controversial section of hardline fans who were described by Celts gaffer Neil Lennon as “an important part of the club.”

But the supporters say PC McCrindle is among a group of “bullying” officers who follow them “week in, week out”.

The officer has posted Facebook snaps of himself working at Barcelona’s Nou Camp stadium during Celtic’s Champions League tie last year and was at the side’s Euro clash with Swedish side Helsingborgs in August.

In a statement the Green Brigade claim he “goaded” supporters at Parkhead on Saturday.

Celtic said they’re looking into the allegations, adding: “We will not tolerate any unjust or inappropriate treatment of our supporters.”

Strathclyde Police said: “A Facebook page allegedly belonging to an officer has come to our attention after claims of offensive postings.

“The officer will have no direct contact with the Celtic support during the inquiry.”

PC McCrindle was unavailable for comment and the Facebook page has been deleted

  4. Travelling around Europe watching Celtic supporters what a gig EH ! all at our expense

Do the green brigade travel en block to Europe they must be a wealthy young group of supporters that GB group as well as easy access to tickets

Glasgow has many serious crime issues, indeed in the cinemas now is a film glorifying one of its many infamous bad boys, maybe some focus groups on that would be far more productive? no exotic trips to Europe though and would involve some serious investigations

  5. Morning all!

Glad to see that McCrindle has been pulled from policing Celtic matches – but that should not be the end of the matter.

Not surprised to hear that he comes from Kilmarnock, ‘tho I would like to point out that I know a fair few Tims from the town.

McCrindle , sadly, is obviously the tip of the iceberg and there are plenty more like him.

    HH!!

  6. FAVOURITE UNCLE on

It’s not a typical CSC, either in composition of its members or the activities it undertakes.

    Agreed?

Quoting someone from it on twatter referring to ‘our CSC’ without naming the club might be regarded as creating a false impression of the nature of the relationship between The club ie Celtic and the general body of supporters clubs.

  8. Gene's a Bhoys name on

Good morning from a frosty north staffs

Re mcCrindle – it’s obvious that the words neutral and policing are mutually exclusive terms when it comes to Celtic fans

And after Tommy bit the pest control dust, anyone know why Focus’s PC Vernell deleted his facebook so hastily? Maybe one for @CelticResearch

  11. Another moon howling rambling classic from legless, neatly summed up by this assessment of BBC Scotland

“It is high time the rabid republican zealots and Rangers haters who run BBC Scotland were made to answer for their actions.”

Meaning Peter Lawwell and the Green Brigade, of course.

  12. Good Morning CQN

Very sad news of a 24 year old friend of Tony Stokes who passed away

May he RIP thoughts and prayers with family and friends

  13. So Rob Shorthouse deleted his twitter page a while back after making comments about celtic and he was removed from his duties.

Tommy McKrindle deleted his Facebook page after his comments about fumigating pests and termite control and he’s now been removed from his duties.

Pc Vernell has now deleted his Facebook page i wonder why ? Only in Scotland eh.

  14. I see that rather that helping the police Celtic have actually taken action and asked the questions of the police they could and one of the offending cops has been removed, Good.

Seems to me the club are acting in the supporters interests.

I said the other day, the GB need to box clever, put themselves beyond reproach then complain long and loud.

They are being targeted and harassed, that doesn’t mean they don’t need to have a look at themselves. If the cops are after them, they need to give them no excuse to do so.

It’s costing me a wee fortune to track this GB v FoCus controversy from NZ’s Middle Earth (they charge the Earth for WiFi facilities hereabouts) but it sounds like the Bhoys have the Polis on the back foot finally…. Now to focus on following thru on the formal complaint process. Bury them with the detail. No thinking the job is done ’til it’s done eh.
