Backlash needed for Highlanders

623

Three weeks after putting 8 goals past South Lanarkshire’s top team Celtic struggled to demonstrate their superiority against the county’s least decorated SFA member

We’ve seen these games before, East Kilbride looked no weaker than the Arbroath team who took us to a replay after drawing at Celtic Park a few years back, but neither performance was an endorsement of Celtic’s football.

I’m getting an uncomfortable feeling that teams know how to play Celtic. For most, this knowledge will not affect the result, but some, like Ross County and Aberdeen, will figure they can give us the ball all day, and as long as they stick to task, they’ll have a chance.

The only resolution to the ills of the last three outings is to get back on the field and boss a game the way we did several times last month. Ross County and Inverness both visit Celtic Park in the next two weeks and both need to feel a backlash. Let’s hope.

Oh for a proper change of regime where we remove the Lords, and Bankiers install Celtic men with a vision of the future and a desire for past injustice.

Agreed I also think that it would be more profitable for such a plc than the present highly salaried autocratic men we have at present

‘Celtic men’, that’s a laughable phrase and one that is very tired.

the menin charge have a vision of the future and have been delivering for years now.

  4. TTT-thanks for your reply last night,I agree it is immoral calling for someone to lose their job, football is like nothing else, but same rules should apply BTW I called for a change of manager after our EL exit,RD said judge me in Europe,I did HH

    bada bing … I didn’t realize that …. I knew there was a reason I liked him! :)

Seriously, I thought he might not be a bad shout for the celtic job …. he seems to have built a good esprit de corps within the six counties team, and got them playing for each other ….. Celtic could do with some of that!

I think the “same club” thing took hold after all that. There’s an interview with Regan on the BBC website 31st July where he is clearer asked directly (twice!) if it is the same club and he basically just says it is down to people to form their own opinions.

Why not just say “yes” (if it is)?

Incidentally, I am not aware of the SFA having said anything since then that would indicate a change in their view of this.

    All about opinions

Some views I hold in relation to players I’ve watched recently. I agree with the consensus that Erik looks like a decent player. However I can not generate enthusiasm regarding Simonuvic. Who appears to be more injured than available and very slow when playing. Limited evidence but he has a lot to prove.

Biton I think is a page ahead – much the same way Samaras was. Nobody rated him either. Biton IMO would be great in a stronger team.

CKR looks like a bag of non scoring yellow and red cards to my eye.

Brainlessly playing in to referee hands by stamping in his first outing. No thanks.

GMS will make it. I think Armstrong might. James Forest never in a month of Sundays.

New goalie required . Yesterday’s guy needs a run of games.

Tierney should be captain next season.

Griffiths we’ll do well to hang on to him – he’s quickly outgrowing his team mates.

    Just my thoughts..

Not touched Efe, Lustig, Boyata.. They are not good enough. Brown will do a job until summer..

“For Colin, it’s an opportunity to get his career back on track after a what, from the outside, looks like a series of mistakes.”

Colin has a scored 1 goal in every 7 games throughout his entire career. He is 29. I think that is a reasonable expectation

CKR has a goal scoring record of 1 goal per 2 games played for Celtic.

Most Celtic supporters recognised what Fergus McCann did for us. That doesn’t mean to say we loved him.

He was a businessman who did what he said he would do. But he was a businessman who used to be a conveyor on the Croy Celtic Supporters bus. Do you know Croy?

Undisputedly, You can not please everybody.

What is not in dispute is that Fergus McCann will go down favourably in Celtic history.

I am in agreement with practically all of your post apart from that one point.

Young Tierney certainly leads by example and could be a great captain a couple of years down the line but it would be too much of a responsibility just now when he has just played his way into the team

  19. !!Bada Bing!! on 8th February 2016 4:05 pm

Thought it was something like that. Remember reading an article about him and he said his background meant he’s suited to working with clubs who have a tight budget and how he left Shamrock Rovers with money in the bank.

Wonder who would be interested in someone like that?

  20. mike in toronto on

    Bada ….

I am one was excited by RD’s appointment, but who thinks RD has not lived up to his promise, as I think the game in Scotland has stagnated, and needs an aggiornamento …. a breath of fresh air, and I thought he could at least start that process at Celtic. However, it doesn’t seem to have worked, and the players look lost on the pitch …..something has to change ….

However, as for a replacement (whenever that may be), I do wonder how to handle that….

I look at Sevco, and how the players there didn’t respond well to PLG …. our players dont seem to have responded well to RD (at least, on the pitch, they dont seem to do any of the things he said he wanted to see in the team) ….

while I think the game in scotland is behind the times, lagging further all the time, and needs a huge gust of wind to blow out the cobwebs …. I do wonder how best to go about that….

‘progressive managers’ (RD and PLG) dont seem to be listened to by their own players ….there definitely seems to be a ‘british football culture’ (frankly, less professional than many other countries) and it seems somewhat resistant to a lot of change. So, do we replace RD with someone of a similar ilk, who will force change? which will likely not be well received by root and branch, including many players?

Or do we go with a hybrid approach … maybe a somewhat more progressive british coach, but a RD type as a number 2 who can begin to make the changes/lay the foundation for more radical future changes (which is sort of what I thought was happening with NFL as no. 1, with RD as number 2) ….

whatever the answer is, it has to start and start soon ….. scottish football is behind, and falling more so as time goes on ….

    Cults

I think it is difficult to properly judge any quality player on the middens that are Hampden, Pittodrie and the Excelsior. I think to expect CKR to score once in every 7 games is a reasonable expectation. Is Big Pierre CKR´s agent ?

I agree with you with regards Simunovic… I would pair Chas with Erik.

Biton I do not rate as highly as you do. In fact since he resigned he has went alarmingly backwards IMHO

GMS is a shite bag … if you compare him with Johnny Doyle I do not see what he brings. How old is he ?

He is captain material and incredible that such a young player can bring leadership to the team in such a short time. He looks like he’s decided that even if some of his team mates are letting their standards drop – he’s determined to play to Celtic standard.

I see him getting physically stronger and more influential every time I watch him.

He’s better than young Robertson who went from Queenspark to Dundee and then to Hull. Tierney is 3 years younger and already the better player. I rate Andrew Robertson very highly incidentally.

I’d chance him as Captain when Brown moves on… Assuming he isn’t sold.

Your right to a point. Fergus is a businessman just like DD and PL. These guys want to see Celtic thrive but they expect to be remunerated at a level that reflects their calibre.

I find it funny when somebody tried to produce figures to prove PL gets paid above the market rate. He started working for Celtic at a fraction of his current salary. His increase was prompted by job offers from England (Arsenal in particular). PL stayed at Celtic for less money, but it was a massive increase on his initial salary.

It was DD’s call. He’s the kingmaker at Celtic.

However, if PL worked pro bono and Celtic retained his 1 million salary, would that make much of a difference on the park?

I’m a Celtic fan and wouldn’t cry if Ronny, PL & DD walked away assuming that the next guys were up to the job. But be careful what you wish for.

Celtic are on for 5 in a row and a possible domestic double. Why take the risk of a new board when we are stable and winning.

    Remember the 90’s?
