Backlash needed for Highlanders

623

Three weeks after putting 8 goals past South Lanarkshire’s top team Celtic struggled to demonstrate their superiority against the county’s least decorated SFA member

We’ve seen these games before, East Kilbride looked no weaker than the Arbroath team who took us to a replay after drawing at Celtic Park a few years back, but neither performance was an endorsement of Celtic’s football.

I’m getting an uncomfortable feeling that teams know how to play Celtic. For most, this knowledge will not affect the result, but some, like Ross County and Aberdeen, will figure they can give us the ball all day, and as long as they stick to task, they’ll have a chance.

The only resolution to the ills of the last three outings is to get back on the field and boss a game the way we did several times last month. Ross County and Inverness both visit Celtic Park in the next two weeks and both need to feel a backlash. Let’s hope.

  1. TBB-I thought EK handled themselves very professionally since the draw was made, including the Hamilton debacle, onwards and upwards for them. HH

    MiT,

I am open to correction and usually am, but I think I heard/read somewhere that Ossie went back to Argentina, post career and resumed his studies.

Probably not true, but, hey,I guess it doesn’t really matter !

Bada – a few games were being played behind closed doors over the past couple of weeks, if you catch my drift.

Thomthetim … as you say, nothing much hinges on whether he was or is ….. what was clear was that he was a great footballer … and the times I saw/heard him interviewed, he seemed like a good guy too. Always liked to see people like that do well ….

    Traffic fines is it?

Three years ago, I was driving a hired car in Glasgow. I hadn’t driven in the city for about 35 years, so the traffic layout was a bit different from 1978.

Anyway, I was looking for the Buchanan Gallery car park and was travelling along what I remembered as Cathedral St.

A month later, after returning to Ireland, I got mail from Europcar, whom I had hired from.

They enclosed a photo copy of a citation from Glasgow Council, showing “my” car in a bus lane.

Being the helpful company that they are, they informed me that they had paid the fine on my behalf, as they had my credit card details.

They explained that though the fine was £60, if it was paid within 30 days, it would only be £30.

Very impressed with their customer service, I was.

Also enclosed was their invoice and receipt to me,

    It read.

Fine £30 (reduced due to early payment)

    Administration £30

    Vat £06

    Total £66.

  16. My main criticism of the board is only dipping their toe into safe standing.

I’d have changed the bottom tier of the Jock Stein into the standing section. It might of pissed off some folk who wouldn’t want to move, but there is going to be plenty of seats at Celtic Park for domestic games.

We only sell out for Euro Games and we’d have to put the seats back in anyway!

  18. A week of strife; three Celtic games live on telly for millions to watch and we came out looking second-rate and shambolic.

    1) Sviatchenko at leats looks the sort of character you can confidently let marshall your defence. Put him in charge, have the others scrap for their places.

    2) Scott Allan and Ryan Christie are WELL overdue starting places.

    3) To me it is a measure of Ronny Deila’s managerial decision-making that Gary Mackay-Steven kept his starting jersey for all three games.

    4) I’m impressed by Aberdeen’s mental strength. For some reason we have lost self-belief. A ridiculous state of affairs for those wearing the Hoops, but a telling sign of players out of their depth.

I’m not expecting arrogance from one of ours but when you pull on the Hoops you should recognize that in itself is an endorsement of your ability, one which elevates your potential – if not immediate status – above the norm. Currently, all that pulling on the jersey seems to do is turn supposed top pros into introverted, anxious teenagers on prom night. Just not good enough; stick your hooped chest out, dig deep, and beat what’s in front of you.

I’m in total agreement with you on the standing area. Unless it’s a structural design issue, I think they’d have been better installing the whole lower tier of Jock Stein with the rail seat system. Every Bundesliga club has it and the atmosphere generated is very obvious, and something that’s been missing at CP since the Jungle went.

  25. How about a Celtic board comprised of: Canamalar, Awe_Naw, Cultsbhoy, Neganon, SydneyTim, TD67, Mr Pasty/AlfieBoakes/Ryecatcher/ErnieLynch?
