Balance returning, Magnificent effort

1052

After a tenacious win in Paisley on Friday Celtic were back in the groove last night.  Passing was swift and accurate, movement – perpetual.  It was a quiet game for Kris Commons, which at an earlier time would have meant a game with few chances for Celtic, but the prodding of Johansen, Armstrong and Mackay-Steven ensured Thistle played much of the game trying to chase shadows.

The return from injury of two of our three right backs, Adam Matthews and Darnell Fisher, has given the team better balance, although Adam still looks to be finding his sharpness.

John Guidetti established his early season reputation against Thistle with a League Cup hat trick but that seemed like a lifetime ago last night.  The striker had the odd chance but the terror he inspired in defenders a few months ago has gone.

Enormous thanks to winning bidder for our Open Golf Championship Hospitality competition, which finished a moment ago raising £2050 for our School Kitchen project for Mary’s Meals in Malawi.  Thanks to Eden Mill Distillery and Brewery in St Andrews and all who participated.

It was a stunning effort and the money is now in place to complete the fourth CQN school kitchen!  Well done to all who played their part.

Celtic sponsor, Magners, who have helped from the beginning of this recent school kitchen project, have a competition to play at Lennoxtown and Celtic Park.  You can enter your 7-a-side team into the Magnificent 7s competition before 5pm Wednesday 15th.  It would be good to see CQN represented.  Qualifying round takes place at Lennoxtown on Sunday 26 April with the finals at Celtic Park.

    Thanks for the reply.

It can also be difficult to determine whether I am addressing someone’s core point or a tangent.

I had conceded, early on in my reply, that someone at some time on CQN may have directly insulted Scotland and her culture (if we have a singular one of those) but I did not feel that anyone using the phrase Radio Shortbread had done so. It would be easier if people were able to give an example of situations where they felt Scotland and her culture were clearly disrespected.

If that was not the core point then it may have to be made simpler and clearer for me. If it was about issuing carte blanche excuses for every CQNr, I don’t think I did, except in the sole instance of the phrase “Radio Shortbread”.

Maybe if you could give me one example of a racist statement from my bitter verbal attack post of 00.56, I might be able to defend myself from your bald assertion.

  12. Stan and Stefan - Sitting doon for Scott Broon on

Taxi driver from the airport last night was a fan of Sevco.

(Football on radio in the background)

    Him: “Do you like football?”

    Me: “Yes”

    Him: “Which team?”

    Me: “Celtic”

Him: “QoS beating Rangers 3-0.” (No clue yet as to which team he supported). “Lost a goal 20s after the start of the second half. Should never happen.” (Ah, you’re a Hun)

He proceeded to tell me how he was brought up hating Celtic supporters due to religion but early on realised how this was wrong and for him he views it as a football rivalry. (Good for him). Can’t wait until they are “back” and winning the top league “again”.

Also, from inside information he acquires as a taxi driver, assured me that it wouldn’t be 4, 3 or 2 years. It will be next season. 40 million investment coming in. 10million each from King and the 3 bears. (I may have laughed out loud at this point).

Playing along I explained how 40 million would certainly help to pay off the existing debts, spruce the place up and bring in replacements for the 14 players out of contract at the end of the season. But asked him what confidence he had that the players being brought in would be any better than those they had, who appear to be there just for the money?

Well Celtic can do it. That guy that went to Southampton (Wanyama, Forster?). We can do the same. Bring in good players and make money on them.

I left him with the thought that, if that was a valid strategy, why was it not implemented when they were in the fourth division and every season since?

Gave him a tip for giving me a good laugh.

They must be struggling with straightforward logic…..to be fair, it will take longer than normal to stitch Celtic up on this one …… but, we shall not be moved …….if they find Guidetti ‘guilty’, ‘there will be hell to pay ‘ …… with it also being more evidence of the anti-Celtic bias / bigotry within the Scottish Football establishment / culture….

  16. A brief bit of early morning thinking (I won’t make it a habit) and a twitter convo has brought me to this conclusion.

Mike Ashley still wants control at Rangers. He was there and I think it was clear he was prepared to loan/bankroll them to stability and existence. Being the spoilt children that they are they rejected that idea and forced his men out in favour of DK and his minions.

Now though they have nothing. There’s no way to operate that club without continually pouring money in. Before long they’ll be forced to liquidate. The problem is they can’t pre-pack. MA controls whether any new entity can be called ‘Rangers’.

He’s the only viable option going forward if they want to be ‘Rangers’ and he can probably pick up the club for less than it would have cost him to do it to his original plan.

All that RIFC have left is a crumbling stadium, and a crumbling squad.

Despite what they might think their future is entirely in the control of MA.

  17. My friends in Celtic,

We have many wealth creators and professional people on here. We have many hard working manual workers on here. We have many who do not fall into any of the previous categories.

The amount of articulate and knowledgeable posts on here are testimony that we do not sit at the back of any bus.

I think the picture of institutionalised racism / sectarianism in Scotland in 2015 is grossly exaggerated. Life is tough, but it is tough for all. Our grandparents experienced a different society to what we have now and many did experience racism / sectarianism. But it is testimony to them that they prevailed.

I am loath to use religion on here, but one fact is pivotal to dispel the back of the bus attitude. :- In the 1990’s onward, over 50% of Catholic’s married non Catholic partners. It is simply inconceivable that with such integration Scotland of the 1915 variety is any different to the rest of the UK.

Yes we have racism, yes we have divides, but not what our grandparents experienced. The battle lines have changed and the fight for equality goes on. The haves v the have not’s, this is the battleground.

Collectively as Celtic supporters we should be proud of our journey, mindful of our achievements and leave the back of the bus to others more deserving of this seating arrangement.

    HH to all.
