Balance returning, Magnificent effort

1052

After a tenacious win in Paisley on Friday Celtic were back in the groove last night.  Passing was swift and accurate, movement – perpetual.  It was a quiet game for Kris Commons, which at an earlier time would have meant a game with few chances for Celtic, but the prodding of Johansen, Armstrong and Mackay-Steven ensured Thistle played much of the game trying to chase shadows.

The return from injury of two of our three right backs, Adam Matthews and Darnell Fisher, has given the team better balance, although Adam still looks to be finding his sharpness.

John Guidetti established his early season reputation against Thistle with a League Cup hat trick but that seemed like a lifetime ago last night.  The striker had the odd chance but the terror he inspired in defenders a few months ago has gone.

Enormous thanks to winning bidder for our Open Golf Championship Hospitality competition, which finished a moment ago raising £2050 for our School Kitchen project for Mary’s Meals in Malawi.  Thanks to Eden Mill Distillery and Brewery in St Andrews and all who participated.

It was a stunning effort and the money is now in place to complete the fourth CQN school kitchen!  Well done to all who played their part.

Celtic sponsor, Magners, who have helped from the beginning of this recent school kitchen project, have a competition to play at Lennoxtown and Celtic Park.  You can enter your 7-a-side team into the Magnificent 7s competition before 5pm Wednesday 15th.  It would be good to see CQN represented.  Qualifying round takes place at Lennoxtown on Sunday 26 April with the finals at Celtic Park.

  7. Good evening fellow Tims

Not been on as much as I would like recently but lurk occassionaly. As some of you may know I work in a finance company.

We are being squeezed. Lack of staff, poor management, lack of decent resources and controls, over worked staff and low wages.

I have worked 3 days this week 12 hours Tuesday, 12 hours Wednesday and 13 and a half hours today. I am not allowed to earn overtime monies so out of the almost 38 hours worked I will be paid for 21 hours. It’s been so bad my wife and son have spent that night at her parents because I am barely at home.

At one time working for a bank or a major finance house would be a job for life with great benefits and increasing wages. Now it is a production line of people who want to make as much money as possible for the top 3% of staff and the shareholders.

If you have teenagers ready to enter this world as them to think again. It may look attractive but it is by far the least satisfying and unethical industry to work in at the minute. Whilst the big hitters get millions in bonuses the ordinary staff are going off with stress due to lack of training and being put under so much pressure by people from above it is affecting their health. The bastards will never break me but I watch question time tonight and they talk about money, Europe and a whole host of the same issues. Just because you work at a desk it doesn’t mean you are working in the greatest conditions. There are more to conditions than a nice office and a fancy computer.

I have seen my son for 3 hours in 3 days. That saddens me greatly. The fact I am not being paid overtime doesn’t even soften the blow.

Work at 7am so aff to bed. Bloody banks!

“..Honestly in my opinion…No Conspiracy..Sorry..No Masonic Conspiracy laid down from on High…Guys saying…You say this i’ll say that to protect and do what they see as right for Themselves..Dam Straight..YES..i believe they did…regard to LNS…he dealt with what was put in front of him, thats well documented by more intelligent men than me…

    Calling him a Willing Dupe

    ….asking for trouble..And Unprovable”

I was hoping for something a wee bit more detailed and considered. However, I will do my best to reply to what I took from this.

First of all, I may have missed it but I don’t recall anyone saying thet this was a “masonic conspiracy laid down from on high”. Nor do I recall saying that all the conspirators (and thelike-minded who did not have to co-ordinate) were masons. But that does not refute the view that establishment figures, both political and office bearers within the SFA, met together to “feel out” a way forward that involved ignoring inconvenient rules and adopting favourable interpretations.

Most “conspirators” do not wear black and write down the details of their plotting for easy discovery by meddling snoopers. Most have vague discussions to feel out a mutual understanding and get their intended way by rejecting proposals that don’t fit and suggesting it be looked at again, rather than by directing explicitly and putting their own views on the record.

Politicians and Officials at Edinburgh and Westminster level will have let the SFA know that they were favourable to a solution that would see Rangers not disappear from the Scottish football economy, even if that meant that rules had to be set aside or bent. The Armageddon scenario gets great play in every newspaper and media outlet with not one dissenting voice- not even the Morning Star or the Celtic View. The guys charged with dealing with this mess have to scramble around to find a solution that causes least long term economic pain for Scottish football. One of the main players who remains in post to do so would have been removed from any other public situation because of his record of implication in the matter but that did not happen here?

You say that they (did this) “to protect and do what they see as “right for themselves”

But what dog did LNS have in this fight?

What dog did Sandy Bryson have in this fight?

One was a supposed neutral judge called upon to investigate and arbitrate but he turned out to be very incurious about the logic of arguments presented to him. Was it in his interest to be incurious and to accept arbitrary time restrictions for the period under investigation?

Was it in Stuart Regan’s interest to abandon his jurisdiction and hand this over to a judge with a dubious past record (don’t worry I am in absolutely no danger of legal action in asserting this) and no particular football or sports speciality interest?

Was it in Sandy Bryson’s interest to advance in evidence that a registration flaw was not a fault until after it had been discovered? A man who had imposed swinging fines on lesser clubs for lesser infractions of the rules should surely have had the self interest to defend the neutral application of said rules to all clubs without fear or favour. Why did he change the habits of his lifetime?

You say that LNS “dealt” with what was put in front of him and that this has been “documented by more intelligent men than me”. Who are these intelligent souls? And what was their evidence and documentation that so convinced you?

I am touched by your concern that I laid myself open to action for my “unprovable” assertion that LNS was a willing dupe. Nimmo has proved, for a high profile lawyer, to be remarkably unwilling to respond legally or publicly to the many and varied criticisms he has faced for his enquiry, some of them much more actionable than mine. Perhaps his track record as a proven dupe in the Lothian Police break in ( where he issued another whitewash report) when he allowed a bogus reporter into his own house, makes his defence against being a dupe, harder to substantiate.

As for “willing”, I think I am being favourable to him in adding that descriptor. The main wounding charge is of being a dupe. I think I can substantiate that easily.

Now maybe, you can add to your short reply and inform me what was so convincing in the LNS findings? Maybe you can tell me in what way it was in LNS and Sandy Bryson’s self-interest to defend his own drafted regulations in such a casual and dismissive way?

I could understand an argument that it was self-preservation that motivated them not to go after the Ibrox mob but you specifically said “right for themselves”. Did you mean

Right for their own sense of morality and rectitude?

or right for their own peace of mind and to avoid hassle?

If it is the former can you explain it to me?

If it is the latter then you have already admitted that they are corrupt whilst excusing them for being so.

  22. Livibhoy

Oh yes I see what you mean.

    Zero hour contracts?

Crushing of trade unions by Thatcher and Blair.

Probably not a coincidence that you and other workers are now suffering.

I don’t know what the solution is. Maybe time for workers of the world to unite.

The problem at this moment in time is..

Most will be mortgaged and the fear of losing their homes or falling behind with bills and getting a bad credit rating due to taking industrial action out ways the treatment being meeted.

Thatchers policy of debt to control the working/ middle classes has ripped the heart out of the people.

Your post is indicative of what is happening to the majority of workers, my wife also works in a financial institution and whilst her bonuses have been been completely eradicated, the top 3% as you say continue to coin it in on the back of the efforts of those lower down in the food chain.

But please console yourself in the knowledge that you are obviously one intelligent guy, your excellent posts are testament to that fact, just have faith that better things are around the corner.
