13 June and Celtic have signed a striker! Do we have some important games coming up early in the season? 6’4” Amido Balde joined Sporting Lisbon three years ago but never made an appearance for the club.
After three loan deals he joined Vitoria Guimaraes a year ago, where he caught the eye of Celtic scouts. At 22-years-old, he is right in the sweet spot of Celtic’s recruitment strategy: fully developed physically, old enough to be considered prime first team material but with many years of prime football ahead.
Playing for Celtic is quite different than playing for Vitoria Guimaraes, so it may take Amido a period of adjustment to settle into life as a Glasgow sporting celebrity, but he is clearly the man Neil Lennon and the scouts wanted. Based on that, I’m happy.
Despite what could be described as cover, and the fact that the player has declined a new contract, I’m still not happy to sell Gary Hooper. We have lots to do this summer before that moves up the agenda.
Welcome to Celtic, Amido.
The raffle for a signed Celtic top in aid of 1254125 ends early tomorrow morning. THIS IS THE LAST CALL FOR TICKETS, which cost only £1 each. Get in there…..

CELTIC Football Club is delighted to announce today that Glasgow City Council has passed a Celtic planning proposal which will see the transformation of Celtic Park.
Following today’s decision, the first phase of development will see the creation of a new public realm area, dramatically changing Celtic Park. The development will provide a new pedestrian avenue leading to the stadium for supporters, a new attractive public space, and the whole area leading to the stadium will be fully landscaped, providing an approach to Celtic Park which is befitting of one of the world’s great football arenas.
Work will now begin on putting contracts in place and it is hoped that the first phase of the development will be completed in time for the start of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The completion of further phases of development will also see a range of additional facilities around the stadium.
Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: “This really is fantastic news for the club and is something which will allow us to completely transform Celtic Park, providing a stunning new public realm area for the benefit of our supporters.
“For so many years Celtic has been a fundamental part of the East End of Glasgow – this development represents real positive regeneration of the East End, something to which we are totally committed.
“The club is in great shape on and off the field and today’s news allows us to build on these strong foundations and take the club forward once again.
“We have enjoyed a fantastic 125th anniversary season, delivering success to our fans and making a real impression across European football.
“Today’s announcement lets us build on this great season. It means we can look ahead to more exciting times for Celtic and our supporters as we continue to progress the club in the right direction and show that Celtic continues to be one of the world’s leading football clubs.”
When has this country ever done anything to help our club.

Told Forrester was a player we had watched last season and we might make a move. Fits the profile apparently.
ht,
I seem to have a chronic problem though, even when I catch myself, my hothead overrides my common sense, then I regret. I’d like to do a kit and SFTB 125 days but I doubt I’d manage it, sometime I just read things that really grinds my gears and want to leave no doubt as to my feelings. It’s a failure, though at work its a blessing, because it doesn’t matter who I upset, I put my integrity first, it has cost me a few jobs but gained me many more as clients know they can trust me to give the brutal truth brutally, most love it, some don’t.
I’ve said before I seem to be getting more angry than mellow the older I get turning into a grumpy old mhan.
I need to get a grip

My personal view on our squad, we need a class centre back (desperately) and keep what we have – and play the young ones in the domestic cups – and I think we will be okay.
I wouldn’t waste money buying in players just for the sake of it. I’d rather we spent it to induce all the squad to stay and develop as a team (that includes Paddy McCourt for the simple reason that he has a wee bit of the devil and the magic in him and sure there’s not too many that have that) .

Re: The development, sounds like a lot of monoblocks :0)
Goodnight from Las Vegas.
Just in from final nights show and, whilst the week was most enjoyable, I found the closing dinner dance/function pretty poor.
Improvement for next year please.
Hail! Hail!

Don’t big yourself up too much mate, a lot of the time you only upset those who are looking to be upset and when that is the case the game truly is a boggie.
One thing nobody can ever accuse you of is not being honest and sincere in your convictions… except for that time you told us that EUFA were going to hammer a defunct club to the wall. Now that got even me a wee bit peeved to say the least.

A really honest assessment. As a star points out we’re all guilty at times of acting without due thought and subsequently left to rue our misjudgements.
As SFTB says though it’s human to err but the decent are the ones who admit or apologise for their errors.

Tain’s big cat!!
Remember in the Northern Times reports of sightings mostly further north if I remember in the 80’s? Don’t know about more recent. Scary- one on one. Got caught out with the trots one night in Africa, could see eyes reflected in campfire- hyenas – torch in one hand and knife in other. Lucky it was a quick one (made even more so!) and a quick dash back to tent.
