Balde, Hooper, summer challenges

1119

13 June and Celtic have signed a striker!  Do we have some important games coming up early in the season?  6’4” Amido Balde joined Sporting Lisbon three years ago but never made an appearance for the club.

After three loan deals he joined Vitoria Guimaraes a year ago, where he caught the eye of Celtic scouts.  At 22-years-old, he is right in the sweet spot of Celtic’s recruitment strategy: fully developed physically, old enough to be considered prime first team material but with many years of prime football ahead.

Playing for Celtic is quite different than playing for Vitoria Guimaraes, so it may take Amido a period of adjustment to settle into life as a Glasgow sporting celebrity, but he is clearly the man Neil Lennon and the scouts wanted.  Based on that, I’m happy.

Despite what could be described as cover, and the fact that the player has declined a new contract, I’m still not happy to sell Gary Hooper.  We have lots to do this summer before that moves up the agenda.

Welcome to Celtic, Amido.

The raffle for a signed Celtic top in aid of 1254125 ends early tomorrow morning. THIS IS THE LAST CALL FOR TICKETS, which cost only £1 each. Get in there…..

The movie is more than good, but the books… the books will make your cry.

And you are right, the KKK did offer to better every dollar raised in support of the right of Catholics to attend mass by contributing ten of their own.

There is not too much I want to do before my time comes, but I hope I get the opportunity to go to this memorial:

Just fantastic, honoured by the crown for the persecution of the Celtic support.

  6. A great CQN day at Aberdour yesterday – thanks to all involved in making it such a fine gathering. It was wonderful to hear Willie Wallace talk of the Lions and Jock Stein, of football past and present. A true Celtic legend and a man who still loves our club even after so many years away.

The KKK of America offered ten dollars of their own against the KoC (America) every dollar raised, to deny Catholics (in Mexico) the right to attend mass. The Knights of Columbus came up with the money – the KKK didn’t.

  10. I got not good health news this week – having a ct scan on the Friday, would hate to see a night in cambuslang go to waste

  11. Quonno,

Sadly, the revelation from LNS that Wattie failed to gain any sporting advantage from a £40 warchest may have proved fatal to his hopes.

His only chance now is that Minty’s is Tuped over to him when finally stripped.;)

Anyway, re knighthood for Stephen House – it appears to be customary for all outgoing Chief Constables of Strathclyde Police to be awarded this trinket of their busted empire. I don’t think it is a particularly significant endorsement of him or his time in office.

The demographic make up of the Members of the Rangers Football Club makes for interesting reading. In 1899, at the advent of the club becoming a Limited Company, shareholder records show that 22.6% of members were Manual-Skilled Workers, 18.8 % were businessmen, 10.2 % Manual Unskilled with ‘Professionals and Gentlemen’ making up 2.3%. White Collar workers made up 8.4% whilst Policemen numbered 0.1%. Proof that Rangers attracted a broad Church of supporters from all walks of life.

I Take it the Other 50% were SFA and Referees..:-))))

positive thoughts mate, nothing but positive thoughts.

And way so belatedly it is embarrassing… the same applies to my ol’ mucker Gold Coast Tom…

nothing but positive thoughts mate, and a wee prayer for you too. I watched my dad suffer from the same ailment for most of ten years. I hope you just kick the eff out of what is bothering yer health; on my faith and on graves and hearts of those I hold most dear and they be my judge, I hope and pray you are as strong as I believe you are… and then we can both get back to doing what we both do best… supporting our own wee parochial club and community; albeit it not always in accord but sharing the one road nonetheless.

Both of you, and everybody else too, chins up. Smile… your family and friends will adore you for it.

  25. Jackie Mac – fabulous gesture considering others when you have your own problems to confront. Hope it all works out for you.

Roses gig – Ian Brown gave his mate 50 (yes fifty) tickets to distribute to friends for tonight. My jammy wee sister is now going VIP tonight as a result. Hope this bleddy rain stops soon for you all or you’ll need waders!
