I agree with the posters mentioning attitude and mentality. I think this plays a major part when our players face teams who the media continually refer to as being on a different stratosphere.

Maybe we need some hypnotherapy to have us enter the field with a positive mindset. Not so far fetched as this technique has been utilised many times to improve sports performance.

Basics are basics which should be comfortably undertaken no mater the opposition. We did not do this.

However we live to fight another day and our aspirations must remain focused on European football.

HH to all , and especially to the fans who are currently partying in Deutschland.

Bayern will not be so as focussed as they were Tonight.

    Bayern were awesome.

    Celtic can win @ Paradise.

We will be Larry Bird now Howevaaaaaaah. :(

  3. Late home from work , so didn’t go to the boozer to watch the game . Big mistake .

Oor Henrik , the king of kings watched the game in Ayr’s Tim shop ,the Market Inn .

Perfect gentleman by all accounts .

  4. Always wondered what would happen if I disputed….I’ll ignore the rules as u do….

  5. Missed the 1st half but managed to watch second on Astro Sport on my little chinese box. Don’t know who english commentators were but FULL of praise for the fans. “City centre full today and although disappointed tonight will be back cheering their team in 2 weeks” Team picked up bit with subs but we are Celtic and I will love them no matter the score.

  6. Improved technical ability leads to less opportunities for opponents as you can control, hold and move around the pitch better with and without the ball, it also makes opponents work harder, hence, it impacts on both teams decision making also.

When you hold onto the ball with ease confidence im proves and if you chasing for long time confidence drops as frustration creeps in.

we should stick with out principles and work harder to become better in a style of play that focuses on good technical and tactical players and team.

We might then see occasional draws and wins now and again when playing the richer clubs, but even then there will be times when we get beaten.

  7. Agree that McLean sounded like the Chair of the Bayern # 1 Supporters Club. But he was nothing more than Chris Sutton’s Little Sir Echo.

Our Craig made several outstanding saves but his distribution helped Bayern keep us penned in

In the first half we got a bit of a doing. But we might have survived two of the three goals had we been better organized.

  8. fritzsong

    I agree.

We would have had a chance if Jozo was there.

    Craig, was Jekyll and Hyde.

Some players you know are Big Game players.

  9. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Our team lost heavily tonight and we are all gutted.

That notwithstanding, how many of us would swap places with Rob McLean tonight?

    Thought as much.

A nonentity. His name being mentioned on here at all diminishes the blog.

I would love Bertie Auld leading us out the tunnel belting out It’a Grand Old Team.

That would improve our mental approach.

  11. Back to basics – sorry mate you are talking shite. His name is being mentioned here for a good reason.

He should not be the main commentator on our games. Simple. Agenda of doing down our team. FECK HIM.

  12. WGS summed it up quite well a while back … Celtic can afford or produce players who are 3/5. They might pick up the odd gem who is maybe 4/5 (Like a Dembele), and once in a lifetime a superstar like Henrik 5/5. We can get in good honest pros, but not world class players. Not often anyway.

Bayern, PSG, Barcelona et al can put 4/5 and 5/5 players all throughout their teams.

The finances just aren’t there for Celtic to realistically compete with the top European clubs

  13. Not read back, but Celtic fans were magnificent in Allianz tonight.

We were sat in opposite end, above Bayern ‘Ultras’ and we heard every song, every minute of the game and the Bayern fans were well impressed.

Take a bow , our Bhoys in the away end tonight.

    The envy of Europe.

Time to move on to the biggest game of the week. We’ve a back to back treble to win. Dembele, Rogic, McGregor and Forrest to start and blow them away in the first half.

Agree. You are also right with your later post on defence.Never had a settled two this season.

    Anyway,not too down,Bayern are superb.Hibs are not.Lets get to our 1st final.

    Good Evening CQN

Whilst the vast differences between the money spent by Bayern, PSG etc give them so much of an edge, I wonder if we could play tighter or smarter when we start a game?

Tom Rogic to start for me anytime and whilst I love Stuart Armstrong, this level has been too much for him this time.

Onwards to the next game. Great to be in the Champions League, but it is a tough lesson at times!

  20. Bayern were excellent.

We gave them too much time and (still more) space and paid the price.

The Bayern fans were equally excellent and treating me with great courtesy.

But MOTM by a country mile was the Celtic support.

Bayern fans sitting listening and filming them as the crescendos built and built.

Great to see some of cqn’s finest for a pre match pint.

  21. CRC,

When Tom gets back, we have A unique Leo Sayer.

    G64,

We need a bit of luck for Once the next draw.

I hope Both are Happy as Larry.

    CQN Greats.

  22. FRITZSONG

I agree his distribution was not great but the set up for playing the ball out from the back is poor.

I agree we need to make this tactic work but the coaches need to do a better job with this .It has been noticeable this season that even spl teams who pressed high cause us difficulty.

That requires intelligent movement from midfield and front. We do not have that so players have to be coached in this area.

Bayern left us to pass ball around at back without purpose and slowly reduced our options.Once we ran out of space they pressed quickly creating turnovers.

Gordon did not have many good options for outballs.so understandable that side of game suffered.

  23. I don’t mind a hammering as long as the greater opponent proves their laudable worth against out best efforts, buuuuttt….

Not read back, don”t really care for any platitudes.

    TRUTH:

    Utter pish.

Never at it from the off. No tempo. No gameplan. No conviction.

Sit in and wait for THEM to do something = recipe for what we got.

Or should have got. It was 3 going on 7.

I’ve praised the bhoys for every CL effort – but even the 0-5 shafting v PSG was a more creditable effort than tonight; outplayed as we tried manfully to counter it.

We had no rhythm or focus. We looked like we expected a tanking. Nobody, including BR, showed any belief. Everyone looke dof ftheir game and wishing they were in front of the telly rather than on it.

It was like being a Hun v Us.

Gordon forced into ridiculous passes every time when it was obvious BM had sussed us. Incredibly one-dimensional football. Incredibly lame adherence to failing tactics. Incredibly timid performances from players we NEED to stand up and be counted.

Couldn’t deal with the Bayern high-press; did nothing to counter it. Sad to say Paddy Roberts looking like a terrible waste of cash – pitiful decision-mmaking at crucial moments. Maybe I’m wrong to single him out but comparisons with JF when he came on – direct, purposeful; there’s something amiss about PR since we got him back. Lose the label, kid; start proving the myth.

Aside, we did NOTHING that has marked our famous CL performances; no tempo, no aggression from the start. We sat there and took it, from a top-quality side who must have thought Xmas was early; unforgivable. And unfathomable from a squad I thought had learned how to combat superior quality in the CL.

Piss-poor all round. I hope they blow it away on Saturday and shake up the mindset for the Bayern return; you either get with it or get seen to in the CL; that’s twice we’ve been caught like virgins in a brothel.

Get a grip ffs, Celtic. Kudos and commiserations to the phenomenal away support.
