  1. Well I thought the improvisation of Let’s all do the Huddle with Here we go 10 in a row, was exquisite.

After 55 mins I didn’t want to be there but we started our defiance singing longer and louder and it was fun.

I never expected anything . The French boy Koman roasted Gamboa all night. I understand Sandmans frustration. We don’t need plaudits for fans being real supporters, but we were totally outclassed. But not as bad as Arsenal were against them.

    Money talks at this level.

  2. Emusanorphan,

your last line sums it up,

smaller teams might get the occasional result against the

    ones with the huge bankroll,

but there aint a chance they will win the tournament any more

Agree PSG are better team. Like to see their opta stats for 1 touch compared to Bayern.

I said to my son..Roberts needed hooked as turning in on his preferred left foot was a fruitless exercise against well organised skilful giants in Bayern defence. Forest took them on the outside to much better effect.

I would imagine Brendan Rodgers is learning a lot about the team in these games. It was hard to watch in the first half hour. The ball was being sent anywhere close to Griffiths and the wee man had two on him. No chance. Having said that we were compact enough in that period it’s just we gave them it too much, didn’t support those who were able to break and failed to turn and look for a man that should have been marked. Bayern on the other hand hunted us down. Their marking was hard but fair.

It was hard to point any blame at individuals like Roberts or Sinclair they worked hard but didn’t get any support. Forrest was good when he came on and his pace may be more of a weapon in the next game.

Second half we became raggged before and after the 3rd goal. Brown gave the impression he was working so hard that he lost composure and they had worked out our usual game. Stick two men around Brown when Gordon has the ball, Boyata can’t pass it long and Gordon then sends to full backs at the touch line. Full backs were marked.

Where PSG had superior skill – Bayern had superior strength and fitness.

If we are going to improve we need to find players who can build from the back including the goalkeeper. Midfielders who can defend and form packs and help Brown in those transitions would also help.

I thought Ntcham did little but then that Canadian German English chap Owen Hargreaves said Ntcham impressed. I’ll need to watch it back. Tierney needed help a lot more from Sinclair.

Next two champions league games should be built on keeping possession for as long as possible. Beat Anderlecht and give us more chances to test ourselves and make improvements.

Brendan must know if there are better than Gordon, Boyata and Lustig. I imagine we need to sell one of Armstrong, McGregor or Rogic to bring in a midfielder who could make a difference at this level.

Hibs might beat us on Saturday. No bad thing to let us hit a reset button.

Wow, hard to argue with the points you have made.

A fine post from the heart.

  6. I’ve only read the last 2 pages….and….as no one else is saying it….Craig Gordon was shit tonight……and he knows it…….hence looking to the heavens after goals number 2 & 3. He watched the ball sail past him on 2 occasions without making any effort to save. He’s 6’5” and with an arm outstretched must me nearer 8’. Gambia saved a certain goal and a dodgy decision saved another. I’ll guarantee you De Vries will be in goal for Saturday

  8. 1st half when Bayern won the ball Sinclair was caught every time near the middle of the park. Quick switch to the right left Keiran facing 2 players every time. Sinclair should have been told to hug that touchline

Respectfully disagree re Gordon’s performance tonight.

Your points have general validity. I don’t massively rate him but hes as good as we are likely to get at Celtic.

His major flaw is management of high balls in and around the 6 yard box. For his height he is too fond of standing on his line.

However tonight he made a couple of very good saves. His distribution was pish but overall not sure we could expect much more from him. I doubt we’ll be fielding any big bids for him..ever.

  10. Fred, our lads have learned So Much.

It is both expensive and sore.

Celtic shouldnae have bumped all up £50.

    Brexit for me.

  11. Well outclassed tonight , if we are honest we still have a long way to go , to take on and beat teams with the resources of PSG , BARCA , BAYERN . But have we learned anything from last season , for me not a lot , not enough bullies in our team , to many players in awe of facing giants in the game , instead of realising, they are playing for one of the giants of the game . In my opinion , and I’ve posted this numerous times , so far we haven’t hit the heights we did last season YET . We haven’t seen the fluent football of last season YET . I believe we can improve in personnel too , ,we have areas that can be improved upon , I thought that the transfer window might fill a few of those positions , for me it hasn,t . Our defence is one area that needs looked at . And has ntcham , improved the midfield , still young I know , but he hasn,t done it for me up to NOW , time will tell . Roll on Saturday a chance to make another final , but great as the treble was , my preference is to steam on for the title ,and cl qualification again , because with that ,we get the millions and it keeps the rest in our wake .

  12. Gordon’s biggest problem tonight was his distribution.

Absolutely suicidal at times, pinging wee floaty balls out to the wing (but still in our half). Most of them sailed straight out of play, the ones that stayed in were almost immediately turned over by Bayern.

It’s a real feature of his play. Lenny is a smart manager, he’ll have sussed this for Saturday.

  13. Cosy Corner Bhoy on

Well it could have been worse and we could have lost more.On the other hand,a wee bit of luck and we might have scored a goal that counted!

When I heard BR’s comments pre game I thought that we were going to play as we normally do and the result was superfluous in the grand scheme.

Now,you either agree that you play the SAME system in every game and will/hope improve over time or you play to either win or not get gubbed! You can’t have it both ways.

Tonight we were sticking to the game plan although far superior opponents than normal punished us because of our desire to ‘play our game’

Now in doing so the teams we play at CL level will expose your faults in the system but theoretically we should reap rewards in the future.

Remember it is the CL the gulf in expenditure by teams is enormous.

I thought all our players tried their best but in some cases were found wanting.C’est la vie.. see previous paragraph:)

The worst thin about tonight was that shitebag McLean’s commentary ,and I use the word loosely, especially when he said ‘Bayern now weakening from their slumbers’ following our best spell in the game.

Made me swear in front of my lassies!!!!!!

You swearing in front of the girls? Normally that only happens when they drag you home!

If I’m honest,I didn’t expect much from this game. And as you say,we might as well carry on playing and perfecting our normal game as try something unfamiliar. Likely to get beat either way.

But we really need to do something about the defence, either shore it up or protect it more. And that’s the case at home as well as in Europe.

Anyway, this group is boiling down to four relevant matches out of twelve,to decide group-winners and EL qualifiers. And it’s the same in other groups too.

UEFA have made a pig’s ear out of the whole competition with their seeding.

  15. Jamesgang we were pummelled….again in Europe…..Europa is our level just noo….BR will discard

  19. Not posted for a while but felt I had to tonight.I had a long post written advising Brendan where he went wrong and what he should have done to get a result but then I realised he actually knows a lot more about those things than me and that I was just being a ‘Monday morning quarterback’ as MON would say.

Team with far better players won.

Move on to Saturday where hopefully the same prevails.
