    Like it or lump it BR is going to have us playing the same way (ostensibly) in every single game, i thought before hand that he is perhaps willing to take hits like last night for the greater good in the long run.

    According to some last night, signing a CB wouldnt have made a difference, which makes you wonder a) wtf they know about football and b) what ambitions they have. We cant afford a Hummels or a Bonucci, that much is true, but a decent CB may (i stress may) be able to eradicate at least some of the free goals we seem to give away, 3 free headers last night resulted in 3 goals (granted they had plenty of other opportunities), now if they are contested and CG saves the rest, as he did last night then scorelines will be closer and as everyone who watches us will know, with a one nil lead / deficit, anything can happen. Its not rocket science to believe that players playing their natural positions may have a positive effect on the team and ergo results. Our biggest issue at the moment is our inability to make simple passes, im sure this is a mindset and if so if you dont change it your not gonna play in the long term.

    I only hope that if we are in Europe after christmas, that we do purchase a more dependable defender or two in January.

    Don’t be daft!

    We do not require new, stronger, fit defenders.

    What we need is to stick with consistency in being inconsistent in defensive partnerships due to persistent injuries.

    Well we got nothing from a game we

    were expected to lose , no surprise I suppose.

    The surprise was the way we played until we went 3 nil down, I’m not going to do individual character assassinations, I believe we live and die as a team, and as a team we were pretty poor all round, Ronnie D got slaughtered on here for not having a plan b ( correctly) , last night under Brendan we never had a plan B for the first time under his management I believe.

    3 nil flattered us really, and while we finished the game better than we started it was 2 little to late.

    As for the 2 diddy commentators , muted them for my own sanity, enjoyed watching it in silence.

    Morning Bhoys I dont think many of us expected much more from last nights game however,what bothers me is the manner of the defeat we simply did not compete.Brendan Rodgers in my opinion is being found out he failed to strengthen at the back in the summer window and it is costing us big time in Europe. So not only are the players in a big learning curve but so is Brendan we seem to stand off teams to much instead of getting in amongst them I just hope the Bhoys can recover for Saturday when I believe we will get a very tough game against the Hibs.H.H.

  11. VFR800 is now a Monster 821 on

    People talk about Brendan Rodgers being pragmatic; as a support we also need to show pragmatism. Last night was a footballing lesson, much as expected. Bayern have far superior players and it showed. They also play against superior opposition week in, week out. The result is that they are sharper mentally and react far quicker than we do.

    No-one rally expected anything from PSG at home or away or anything from Bayern away, so 0 from 6 in those 2 games is as expected.

    We are at least 2 points better off than most expected and clear in 3rd spot. I don’t expect Anderlecht to get anything from their other games against PSG or Bayern; I am hopeful that we can contrive to get a point at home against Bayern and fully expect another 3 against Anderlecht at home.

    6 or 7 points and 3rd place in this group is significant progress from last season and will keep us in Europe after Christmas. That’s progress and I can live with that!

  14. I was watching an Austrian bar and it was German Sky coverage. The build up was only about Bayern . They didn’t seem to think Celtic were worth a mention. The game started and it really was all Bayern.

    I was saying to my sympathetic Austrian companions if we can just get through the first 15 mins ……

    No Rob McClean but its was still extremely painful viewing.

    Hope our shell-shocked players will recover and be ready for Hibs and Aberdeen.

  15. Regarding. jozo no doubt a fine player but strange for a sportsman who must have the field of play closely monitored before he is allowed enter therein and who cost Celtic 5 million we are told. Were the club duped in this deal I wonder.

  18. Can’t believe how much some people can extrapolate from so little. Last night, and the PSG game, are still relatively new experiences. Look how long Chelsea and Man City took to establish themselves as CL teams with much more resources. Also some deliberately mischievous reporting going on today. The DR use of stats is very creative and designed for the innumerate it would seem. What about this – we were actually more accurate in our passing last night! we only attempted about 2/3 the number of passes right enough!

  19. Had another great day yesterday with CQN’rs DD, Sips, Bateen Bhoy and Mrs BB and Ms S, then met up with Friesdorfer, JamesGang. Met BGFC and his lovely Mrs and young Wee BGFC. Big Maddes DDs BM friend and a group of his pals joined us too. A great night despite the result.

    Last night went pretty much as I expected. I posted at lunchtime that three things worried me – off-the-ball movement, defending wide areas and set pieces. That’s where the three goals came from.

    I would have started with a team more like the one that finished the game, although it wouldn’t have made much difference to one or maybe two of the goals.

    Basic defending issues are costing us time and time again. Two bits of movement on the first goal – neither picked up. Ball watching at the second goal and on other occasions – eg the Lewandowski offside goal. A free header goal at a set piece and another where Robben of all people gets a header!

    McInnes and Lennon will be picking up on these things and it wouldn’t surprise me too much if our domestic run ends soon.

    January window we must buy 2 Centre Backs with robust fitness histories.

    Realistically they may not necessarily be better player than the 3 sicknotes we currently have but they need to be available to allow continuity.

    Failing that get Ajer in and persevere with him.

  24. We were well beaten by a superior side last night. Some of the comments above are a bit unfair. Bayern Munich are one of the best clubs in the world whose high pressing game makes it very hard for ANY side to keep the ball. On one occasion, Robben ran from the right wing to tackle PR at left back when Celtic broke upfield. He is a playmaker but still contributes in defence. Great example to youngsters. We will never match a team like this until we get into a pan European League. Their players are paid megabucks which I never want to see paid to Celtic players. The magic of Celtic is the connection between the team and the support which makes Celtic Park so special/ IMO, this would be lost if we signed prima donnas like Ronaaldo Neymar etc.

    We must accept that in Euro terms we are a pot 3 side who may occasionally make last 16 or have a run in Europa League.

    Yes we made defensive mistakes. That’s what happens when top players play well. The poorer side’s players’ heads are spinning and concentration can drop. A couple of seconds is all it takes. We do the same every week to inferior Scottish opposition.

    Even if we spent £40m on 2 “quality” centre backs, we would still struggle against £200m forwards. IMO, the answer is to grow our own, develop them as best we can and see where that takes us. The connect with the fans will be awesome and while we probably wont win a trophy we will enjoy the show. That to me is what Celtic is about.

    With Europa League qualification a strong possibility, we should be aware of the benefits of being a seeded team in the Round of 32 draw based on the following regs …

    16.04 The four best third-placed (CL group) teams are seeded for the UEFA Europa League round of 32. They are determined in accordance with the following criteria (in descending order):

    a. higher number of points obtained in the group matches;

    b. superior goal difference;

    c. higher number of goals scored;

    d. higher number of away goals scored;

    e. higher number of wins;

    f. higher number of away wins;

    g. lower disciplinary points total based only on yellow and red cards received in

    all group matches (red card = 3 points, yellow card = 1 point, expulsion for two yellow cards in one match = 3 points);

    h. higher club coefficient

    Being seeded could obviously make a big difference on the quality of team we can draw.

  29. I don’t know about the team being overawed by BM, but the Allianz Arena is just awesome. It is like something in never never land. It’s football Jim, but not as we know it! Anyway, it was a privilege to watch class footballers, and something we can aspire to. Onwards and upwards to Saturday, and we go again. HH from sunny Munich.

  30. Morning all. I had to turn the sound down on the German TV commentary last night. Relentlessly patronising about how superior Bayern were and full of stereotypes about us. Normally the commentator – Bela Rethy – is quite good but last night he was churning out the line that Scottish football is ‘agricultural’ and ‘route 1’. On 67 minutes he talked about how ‘surprising’ our European Cup win was, as if he knew nothing of Stein’s Celtic. And at the end said he expected more ‘bite’ from us in the tackle (he’d forgotten Roberts’ yellow card by that time – which he also described as ‘agricultural’). Domestically, he said, Celtic only get competition from ‘The Rangers’ (sic) then proceeded to contradict himself by noting we are just above Aberdeen.

  31. Ah well …. the morning after the night before. We went to the home of one of the best teams in Europe and some fans expected us to get a good result. Instead we got a reality check. We simply can’t compete with the resources available to these ‘super’ clubs when they are on form. Unfortunately Bayern hit form last night after their recent travails and after the appointment of Jupp Heynkes who gave them their desired bounce effect. I’m only disappointed that we didn’t put on a better performance and give a better account of ourselves.

    I’m not going to go over the performances of individual players or team selection but it’s evident that we need to bring in players to strengthen the squad because in a few areas. I think Brendan made a mistake by not strengthening the centre back position during the last window. We have Dedryk, Jobo and EriK but at no time this season have all three been available for selection. How many times in the qualifiers or group stages have we had to ‘patch’ that area with Nir, Kris Ajer or Mikael? In my opinion we need to bring in two. What happens if Kieran gets injured? I also think we need a trustworthy right back as well. Young Ralston is great but he is still developing and Big Mik is not getting any younger and plays a lot of games for Sweden as well. He would still be my first choice. We also need another striker as both Leigh and Moussa have had their injury problems and we have had to play Jamesie through the middle.

    I don’t expect us to throw money at these positions in January. Wisdom has it that good players aren’t available in January but. I would like to see us make a start by adding one or two and filling the other positions during the summer. Anyway it’s great to be a Celtic supporter no matter what.

    Hail! Hail!
