No amount of attitude can make up for the huge gap in technical ability. Lewandowski is as good a traditional 9 as there is in the world, playing against lustig

For clarity…I’m not defending McLean he is not only biased but imo incompetent and boring, offering nothing to his role as anchorman.

    I’m merely highlighting he’s not a Hun.

  3. What is the Stars on

Decent performance. Cant be too despondent. Second half was better. Unlucky not to get a goal back..keep the faith

Never have I ever thot I was a better fan that anyone else, never, I have always said that you get what you pay for, and the players we pay for are not at the races when it come to the top level, fact.

My point about playing at sport is valid, I was right and it obviously went over your head, players are very easily intimidated, be it at football, tennis or whatever sport you can think of, when you are up against a better team, players can out think you, they can make you make mistakes, we do it to players week in week out in scotland just like it gets done to us in the CL.

‘No amount of attitude can make up for the huge gap in technical ability.’

    ###

It can help close the gap.

Not marking players at set pieces isn’t down to a gulf in technical ability.

Unforced errors aren’t caused by a gulf in technical ability.

  8. Players worked hard and done as much as they could so cant complain about application. Never happy to see celtic beat but sometimes you have to accept another team played better.

We are a way off being a very good team but we are a good team. Thing is we caused our own problems with our desire to move the ball about and play out from the back very often, catch 22 as the only way we will improve as a team is if we can operate that style and lots of emphasis is being placed on this style from first team all the way done.

For me we stick with the style and try to improve, short term pain for long term gain.

Awareness, pace, passing and movement all takes time. When it comes together it’s worth it.

Michael johnson best player on pitch today for celtic u19 against bayern, think we should be bleeding him into senior squad now, he happens to tick all the boxes above and would fit comfortable into style of play and will help with regards resting senior players

Agree with most of that. McGregor is the one player we have who always looks around before receiving a pass.

Dembele better suited to the one up front, although I would like to see us playing a condensed 4-3-3, with a counter-attacking style, although tonight I would have gone 4-4-1-1 to help defend the wide areas.

Need to be better at the basics – lost three really bad goals. Ball watching still a big problem.

  10. Notthebus. …………you just took the words out of my mouth. Bayer have hammered bigger teams than Celtic. On their home patch in recent years. Let’s just get on with winning our next game.

  11. Time to move on to the biggest game of the week. We’ve a back to back treble to win. Dembele, Rogic, McGregor and Forrest to start and blow them away in the first half.

    Domestically Celtic intimidate most opposition.

    But not always.

From time to time there are teams who refuse to be intimidated, and they are the ones that are hard to beat.

    PS

    ‘obviously went over your head’

Well that raised a smile, which is something, after that result.

  13. Notthebus- but you didnt hear big tim John say that or Owen H fir haughty mention previous pumpings.

Arsenal, yes Arsenal, pumped 5-1 twice last year by Bayern. Not worthy of a mention chaps?

As for Rob the Nob- must be petition time to BT. Reeked of bias towards BM.

“30 minutes left for Bayern to stretch their lead”

“Still 15 minutes left to make the result more embarrassing”

    and on and on….

His and the Fat Gardeners introduction to BT has diminished their product and enjoyment for me.

I suspect they have been co-erced into it.

    ……………………………………………………………………

    An even bigger disgrace then.

The Hatred of Celtic is bang out of order.

I witnessed Huns on Springfield Road when I decided to walk through the Aiberdeen Supporters bus’s side with Aidan.

The young idiots were just a Rob, unlike the dudes I was talking to as we talked going towards their bus’s.

Unforced errors aren’t caused by a gulf in technical ability

Of course they are, a technically better defender (hummels) makes fewer errors, forced or unforced than a less technically proficient defender (lustig)

  16. I think Brendan has be more pragmatic in games against this level of opposition . Too many lightweight attacking players in the team tonight . Play just Sinclair + one striker and adopt a much more defensive set-up.

Bayern -PSG are at a different level but we could be more competitive with an old fashioned defensive set-up.

  17. Now, I didn’t expect Celtic to get anything (points) from either PSG or Bayern Munich

I would like to hope we can put in a display and compete to an extent.

But, we are playing against numerous superior players to that which Celtic can attract now.

I put up a suggestion for change in European competition previously, I still think there is change needed, to allow clubs such as Celtic to develop and be able to compete goofing forward.

Getting into Europa league and a few game season there will help the players greatly.

We need to accept that for a few seasons ? Hoping Brendan can develop players at that level ?

    Hail Hail

  19. In 9 european games this season we’ve started with 8 different central defences. Not difficult to see where at least part,of the problem lies.

  20. Cant wait for Saturday. Brownie will put that wee bam McGinn in his box and big Moussa will be fired up to unleash hell on them.

  21. I’m really glad we didn’t go over there and park the bus, play our game and it will stand us in good stead against the teams we are competing against in the CL for third place, our aim was Euro football in the New Year if we achieve that I will be happy enough with this seasons run.

I thought tonights game was played in an excellent spirit to football teams playing their natural games, eff that parking the bus…

  22. TTR,

Tom and Moussa will be Cementing their places in the First Team.

Hibs are going to get spanked.

Aiberdeen will get lucky and only lose by 4.

  23. Glad we kept it down to 3 and credit to the buoys for sticking at it.

Whether McLean is a hun or not is besides the point.

He works for the BBC who are simply a biased and bigoted anti Celtic organisation. Archie McPherson is on record saying he couldn’t believe how bad it was.

So here is my take on Rob McLean.

He works for the BBC, his bosses encourage him to be as damming against Celtic as possible. Hey it’s a good career move.

I say complain on mass he made a tough watch far worse. This was orchestrated and over emphasised.

If BT sport are wise he will be reprimanded, even my da was complaining and he moans a lot less than me.

  24. Reports of Bayern’s demise were greatly exaggerated. They are a quality outfit who would have beaten most top teams in Europe tonight. Hh

  25. I agree with the posters mentioning attitude and mentality. I think this plays a major part when our players face teams who the media continually refer to as being on a different stratosphere.

Maybe we need some hypnotherapy to have us enter the field with a positive mindset. Not so far fetched as this technique has been utilised many times to improve sports performance.

Basics are basics which should be comfortably undertaken no mater the opposition. We did not do this.

However we live to fight another day and our aspirations must remain focused on European football.

HH to all , and especially to the fans who are currently partying in Deutschland.

  26. 2 teams of men chasing after a ball…..that’s right….not football….
