BBC turn tanks on our hero Craig

768

BBC investigative journalist, Mark Daly, has shown remarkable fortitude in pursuing Craig Whyte, but it’s clear to any unbiased observer that our hero is totally innocent of the serious allegation levelled at him.  Yesterday, Reporting Scotland suggested Whyte may have committed perjury in the witness box at Glasgow Sheriff Court in December last year in a case involving the supply of roofing materials.

Craig handled the second question on his disqualification as a company director, “You can’t remember why you were banned for seven years?” pitch perfectly.

He said, “Well, I’m not going to say in open court and get it wrong.”

This was a good answer, a very good answer.  Saying something wrong in open court is not what our man wants to do.

It was the third question that those pesky BBC types have tried to make trouble over: “Was it anything to do with the treatment of creditors?”

To which Craig replied, “No.”

One insignificant, two-letter, word that people are trying to build into something more than it is.  If only he’d kept to the simple, “I’m not going to say in open court and get it wrong” reply, none of this perjury nonsense would be raised.

Now we have the messy business of a sheriff, currently deliberating the roofing materials case based on the evidence presented, being interrupted by all this rubbish.  Have you any idea how complicated it becomes for a sheriff to discharge his duties when perjury is publicly being alleged (incorrectly, I may add) before he has even reached his verdict?  He’s left in a very difficult position and will not be pleased.

Last night Craig’s spokesman gave you the truth, saying the BBCs latest hatchet job was “a variation on what the BBC already alleged in a documentary riddled with inaccuracies and falsehoods”.

The BBC also published extracts of a written judgement of a trial at the Royal Courts of Justice Companies Court from 2000 which saw Craig’s seven year ban imposed after he put a company into liquidation.

Inaccuracies and falsehoods – and the guy, fair-minded that he is, didn’t even grab the opportunity to have another day in court, this time against the broadcaster.  I’d love to see you take them on, Craig.  Keep up the good work.

Finally, Celtic fan, Billy Connolly, has been in the news recently so I thought we would give a spin to one of his early works. Apologies for the mild use of colourful language. Firm apologies to Strathclyde Police, who are the subject of some fun here but who I hold in the highest esteem (I’m serious at this part), and just for the record, the following song is a gentle poke at the authorities honesty in court and in no way related to persons mentioned anywhere on Celtic Quick News.

Manager: Hearts game is now our most important one

By: Paul Cuddihy on 07 Feb, 2012 16:51

CELTIC’S last league defeat came back at the beginning of October when they lost 2-0 away to Hearts, but now Neil Lennon’s side return to Tynecastle tomorrow (Wednesday), looking for a 13th consecutive league win, having produced an impressive run of form.

And as the Celtic manager explained: “It’s the most important game of the season because it’s the next one.”

There is no extra significance attached to the fixture because of the previous defeat, though that will serve as a warning – not that any is needed – that it will be an extremely tough fixture against Hearts.

“I didn’t think we played too badly at Tynecastle before,” said the Celtic boss, “and for the first hour we were in the ascendancy, but we missed good chances and it came back to bite us.

“Obviously, we lost our discipline a little bit which, again, has not been a criticism of the team at all this season, and we got beat. We were caught on the counter-attack for the second goal.

“So we don’t want a repeat of that. I think we’re in a different place now to where we were then. Confidence is good, the team’s playing very well at the minute, and the players are taking a lot of pride in what they’re doing.

“We have a chance to extend our lead at the top of the table and put the pressure on everybody else.”

Reports in several newspapers today suggested that Adam Matthews was claiming that Celtic were invincible and would remain unbeaten for the rest of the season.

The manager, with years of experience of how the Scottish media can sometimes operate, knows that the headlines don’t always match what is said.

“There’s still a long way to go,” he said. “People are looking at the headlines today, which were very naughty in regards to what Adam actually did say. I’m not happy about that.

“Adam didn’t say anything wrong, he didn’t say anything controversial and he didn’t say anything that the headlines portrayed him as saying.

“There is a possibility that we could go unbeaten in the league but it doesn’t guarantee we’ll win it – we could have seven wins and seven draws and that might not be enough in the next 14 games.

“So we’re not looking too far ahead. I know some of the tabloids are trying to stir a little of trouble up for the players, but I think the players are handling themselves very well.”

While Mikael Lustig is still making his way back to fitness, one of Celtic’s other new January signings, Polish striker Pawel Brozek is in contention for the Hearts game.

“It’s a healthy squad, we’ve got good depth and the players are champing at the bit to play,” said the manager. “The players who’re coming in are maintaining that vein or form or improving it. I’m delighted and I’d rather be in this position than any other position.

“There’s a lot of football left and the players know that, when they’re picked, they are the most important players to me. And everyone has that sense of significance to the squad, whether they play or not. I was delighted with the players who came in on Saturday, and I was delighted with the substitutes who came on as well.

“It’s not done and dusted and it’s certainly not the attitude we’re adopting here. Rangers are the champions and they’re the champions for a reason, and we have to take on all the challenges that come our way, and overcome them the best we can.

“So there is no room for complacency here and anyone showing that won’t be playing.”

  2. There is nothing wrong with Adam Matthews saying that we MIGHT go through the rest of the season undefeated. Now, if Kyle Lafferty were to say that………….

  3. Neil scored a penalty at the Celtic end in a friendly at Fulham, 2-0. At least my son told me he had when I got back from the world’s longest queue for hot dogs

Indeed, both against Dunfermline were at East End Park and the one against Hibs was at Parkhead (I think!).

  6. Reposting (out of badness)…….

    All CQNers,

Whilst were in full gloating mode I was scanning the interweb for ideas on how to enjoy the moment to the max.

Celtic fans in general have been at their creative best over recent weeks (I have a feeling that next month’s game at Ibrox is likely to give us another “beach ball” type moment).

Well, here’s my contribution; for £0.99 plus shipping you can go to the Manchester Programme Shop (on ebay) and buy a 2012 official Rangers diary and send it to a bear that you know.

Where’s the fun in that? At your request, the helpful folks at the MPS will remove the months of May through December!

    Enjoy.

    Hail Hail.

  7. Good evening friends.

  8. Normally a lurker but thought I’d share this, maybe it’s already been posted

Rangers have been awarded a stunning 3-2 victory over Dundee United after Craig Whyte borrowed 3 goals from next year’s Scottish Cup……..

  9. I always thought Sean Connery was a Celtic fan. Was informed last week that 007 defected to Rangers some time ago. Perhaps someone can confirm that this is a windup?

  10. GS didn’t answer the question! GD ‘…so important that Rangers stay in the SPL…’ Karen asked about HERTZ!!!

GS – I’m an idiot!!! Jelly & ice cream!

‘without Angers Celtic’s life would be less interesting, less lucrative’ and Graham, attempting to follow the rule of 3, has a wee stumble and goes for ‘uh, less interesting’

    pie!

  13. twists n turns on

THE scourge of Scottish football – sectarianism – is in the sights of James Bond’s famous Walther PPK.

Sir Sean Connery devotes a small passage of his soon to be released autobiography Being A Scot to the subject of how he came to swap his allegiances from Celtic to Rangers – the second most high-profile crossing of the great Old Firm divide behind

Mo Johnston (sorry Kenny!). He offers no insight into what prompted his dramatic U-turn, although his friendship with Sir David Murray is a likely factor. Instead, Connory takes aim at religious bigotry. “Why, as a once Celtic supporter, with its strong Catholic-Irish allegiances, should I cheer on a team known to attract extreme Protestants? Well religious affiliations in sport mean nothing to me.” Nor loyalty it would seem, or the notion of supporting your local team. Connery hails from Fountainbridge, just an Aston Martin ejector seat from Tynecastle.

  14. hankray

urban legend has it that the edinburgh wife beater called celtic park, looking for old firm freebies,,

the receptionist thought sean connery was a fake a kiddy on sean connery chancer and told hime to GTF,,

007 then turned double agent and called the copland road switch board and was put straight thorough to Sir Minty,

    the rest is succulent history,,

  15. REAL not talkingabout money tonight! DJ thinks that this is an ideal time to go into administration!
