Beat Hapoel Beer-Sheva for Champions League football

822

Celtic will face Israelis Hapoel Beer-Sheva in the Champions League playoff round later this month, with the first leg due to take place at Celtic Park.

Hapoel, carrying a Uefa coefficient of 4, eliminated Olympiakos, coefficient: 70, in the last round – a bigger shock than Dundalk’s win over BATE.  They put on two backs-to-the-wall performances, drawing the first leg in Greece 0-0 before winning the return 1-0.  In the earlier round they shot the Sheriff Tiraspol from Moldova, winning 3-2 in Israel before securing another 0-0 away.

The positives: the Israeli league hasn’t started yet, so Hapoel will be no further into their season’s preparations than Celtic.  It also looks like the play on grass.

In recent seasons Celtic have found new and innovative ways to bow out at this stage but we know what’s required and will be strong favourites to progress.

Bring it on.

It was a joke, based on your comment about your joke about girlfriend dumping you. So just lay off with the massive self-pity. It won’t wash. If you have no sense of humour, that’s your look-out.

For the record your comments on the current situation in Palestine is the most partial, slanted and forced analysis of the situation that I have read from outwith the intellectual orbit of the proven mentalist and s*it stirrer that is BN.

The whole situation is complex and fluid well beyond the certainty of cheap sloganising that is all to common but your kitchen sink / laundry list just shows how desperate some have become to force their view on the rest of us.

Next time you want to comment could you please just post the link rather than type out somebody else’s prepared article. The effort put in just goes to show how weak your viewpoint is — you and people like you cannot countenance any wrongdoing on your part. That to me suggest that if balance was to be introduced you know you would be on the losing side of the argument.

The upcoming game is a complex affair regarding the non football issues it brings with it.

We as a support do not have all the answers to the questions it raises and one voice will not do the subject justice or reflect the spectrum of opinion within our support.

Better to focus on the football and try to bring an element of normality to the situation.

Normality is what the Palestine / Israel question needs not any amount self indulgent grandstanding by the one dimensional middle class revolutionaries that want to speak for us all.

Petec, further to your post about your son being fouled by one of Barry Ferguson’s sons.

My son played in the 1999 age group in the Lanarkshire Football Developement League.

One of the teams in that league were Gow Valley United, managed by ex Thistle player , Billy McDonald. They were the best team in the league but their players’ behaviour wasnt the best. One of Barry Ferguson’s son played for them.

My son’s team were getting cuffed 9 nil. With about 5 minutes to go, Ferguson’s son chased a ball but went out for a shy. He proceeded to boot the ball away as far as he could from the pitch. One of my son’s team mates said to him, very good to which master Ferguson replied, ‘whit’s the score ya p@@@k’

A totally unnecessary reply and typical of his team’s over the top attitude.

The team were eventually told to leave the league as Billy McDonald assaulted another coach.

  7. Not so much Moneyball but ‘Mothball’ at Celtic since the hibernation of the Old Firm Punch and Judy show.

RD was a cheap, low risk option.

23 players signed in two seasons. Half of that number on loans (approx).

Around £12m profit in transfers over RD’s term.

The question remains if we had recruited a competent manager would the cost of hiring him been recovered by stopping the dreadful recruitment policy over the last three years?

Back to normal service now. Sevco are back (if they don’t go and mess everything up). 50k SBs sold, matchday spend up, TV happy, sponsors happy

BR will sort out the waste of the last 2 to 3 years.

Prepare yourself for MSM drivel, mibbery and clubs lying down like we’ve never seen before.

Sipsini, a good friend of mine used to work in the press.

He told me about twenty years ago about the unwritten rule they had with regard to them and us. A few years later he also told me about the non publicised reasons Ayr knocked back Dodgy Dave’s ‘investment’ in them . Ayr had said Dodgy Dave wasn’t really investing in them but wanted his’investment’ repaid. I was told, I can’t verify how true this is, Dodgy Dave’s dad was the real reason the ‘investment’ wasn’t accepted due to his reputation in Ayrshire business circles and that Murray junior was a chip off the old block.

Petec, due to the unchecked behaviour and attitude of some coaches , parents and players, I have lost interest in watching my son’s matches. I wish I didn’t feel that way but I’m totally scunnered with it.

i was up at glasgow airport at 10 tonight to pick up family.

listened to talksport on fulham newcastle.

who ever was talking really waxed lyrically on Dembale , as a huge loss to fulham, a great young player last year , with huge contribution, and really suprised none no EPL club grabbed him, as he is raw, but at 18 was scoring goals in big games.

said he knew arsenal wanted him, but celtic got him with the “rodgers” factor,

which is “players want to play for him”

  19. An interesting critique entitled ‘The Many Problems with Mothball (Moneyball)’ from 2011. The comments are also interesting , imo.

“If it’s not making profit, it’s not working. So it’s as black and white as you can get. If it doesn’t work, you’re not going to be making money, especially not in Scotland.”

  20. Dallas Dallas,

It is hysterical really when you think about things.

We do what we do, we go and Watch our Sons.

You probably know the Big Tree I stood under.

Anyway, I thought the Referee (a fattie as well) was exceptional.

You don’t get to interact with Referees normally…. I was Blessed to be able to share the Shelter of the Tree.

I said “You have been Great.”

Instantly he said “are you taking the piss?”

He was the Best Referee ever. Not Collina levels but just excellent.

I dont think refs are used to compliments.

It was good of you to tell him.

He wont make it to the senior ranks if he is a good ref or maybe doesn’t want to.
