Being there

1087

I’m sure many of you will remember the home game against Dundee in April 2001. We needed a win to be able to secure the title the following week, at home, against St Mirren. After the game Martin O’Neill sounded irritated at the anxiety in the crowd, oblivious to the fact that the loss of a late goal would have denied many of us the opportunity to be there when the title was won.

If you’ve been there for the highs (Aberdeen) and lows (Kilmarnock) of the league season you’ve earned a ticket to the party. Let’s hope the SPL deliver a home game next, as reported.

Apologies for the extended downtime yesterday. Plans are afoot for five new servers to load-balance CQN (which sounds a lot right now but we’ve had similar thoughts before).

Let the record show that the death of Margaret Thatcher brought CQN down longer than when Rangers did the decent thing. Was hearing the news a ‘JFK moment’? I was in the wee room at the time, a treat for all the senses, so I’m not sure how my memory will handle the situation…. mostly audio.

I wouldn’t go near Giggs either – because I don’t think he would be the answer for us.

On the other point – Giggs did not dive to get a penalty against us – he didn’t even claim for a penalty.

Giggs pulled up with a hamstring tear and was out for six weeks after that – it’s not his fault the referee was a diddy.

    Hamstring eh?

    I thought it was embarrassment.

On reflection, what he’s been up to it wouldn’t be that right enough.

  9. Post-split fixtures announced

By: Newsroom Staff on 09 Apr, 2013 16:45

CELTIC’S first post-split SPL fixture will be a home game against Inverness Caley Thistle on Sunday, April 21 (KO: 12.45pm).

Neil Lennon’s side are currently 15 points clear at the top of the table with five games remaining, so the Hoops know that they need one more point to secure a second consecutive SPL title.

Paradise is sure to be packed out for what will hopefully be a Celtic celebration against an Inverness Caley Thistle side who are still in the running for an impressive second-placed league finish.

Celtic’s other remaining SPL fixtures are:

v Motherwell, Sunday, April 28, KO: 12.45pm (Fir Park).

v Ross County, Sunday, May 5. KO: 12noon (Victoria Park)

v St Johnstone, Saturday, May 11. KO: 12.15pm (Celtic Park)

v Dundee United, Sunday, May 19. KO: 12.45pm (Tannadice)

  10. Afternoon again

Bad afternoon – work related. There are days I wish I’d stayed on in Oz as an illegal immigrant

Seen the fixtures- disappointed first game is not on the Saturday but at least it’s at home.

  11. No as long as a member is there on the night.

So you’re now a friend of a member!!

What date and i’ll ask to save time?

Just looked at our fixtures on the Celtic website. Not one three o’clock kick-off. Motherwell playing on the Friday, which could confirm us as Champions, and yet we do not play on the Saturday afternoon. Yet another illustration of the contempt the SPL and Sky have for football supporters, and in particular us. Prices are better, especially the £5 for children. Our TV money for the season is probably less than the gate receipts for a Champion’s League match and yet we bend over backwards (well some of us do if you read back) to accommodate them. What part does our club actually play in these negotiations?

  14. Press Statement

    Tuesday 9th April 2013

The Scottish Football League regrets the current situation that Dunfermline Athletic F.C. finds itself in. We are fully aware of the impact this situation has had on all concerned, especially players, staff and fans of the club.

The SFL has a duty to protect the integrity and on-going smooth-running of the League and therefore following a thorough process, the SFL Board has decided that Dunfermline Athletic Football Club Limited is guilty of conduct contrary to League rules, the interests of the League and its member clubs, and the following sanctions will be imposed:

    1. That Dunfermline Athletic F.C. be deducted 15 League Championship points with immediate effect.

    2. That, with immediate effect, a player registration embargo on players over the age of 21 be imposed until the club comes out of administration.

    3. In the event of a C.V.A not having been approved by the commencement of next season or approved but subsequently overturned by order of court, and Dunfermline Athletic remain in administration as a consequence, then a further 10 point penalty deduction will be imposed and a financial guarantee of £150,000 will be required to protect the League against future risk.

It should be noted that Dunfermline Athletic F.C. has a right of appeal against these sanctions.

In the face of current challenges, our ultimate aim is to ensure that clubs survive and communities continue to have a local team to support.

  15. Big Vic signing a new contract would be our best signing in many a year.
