Belief structure of the debt lunatics

740

The wisdom of Hearts owner Ann Budge’s comments to the BBC that “Borrowing money for a particular capital programme you can understand, but running up debts that are prevalent in football is beyond my understanding really” is now, in 2014, surely beyond dispute.

Clubs are at liberty to borrow for infrastructure, or in exceptional circumstances, but in the normal course of business, borrowing for football costs should limited to covering the short-term fluctuations in cash-flow.

This thinking was orthodoxy until Sir David Murray led Scottish football by the nose into a spiral of debt accumulation.  The Murray Gospel found many converts among us, those who spoke against it were hounded as heretics.  Debt accumulation was the new crusade, the promised land could be reached with just one more brave act, apparently.

Suggesting this was self-harming nonsense to adherents who had supported a debt-fuelled battle for years attacked a fundamental pillar of their belief system.  Reactions were seldom considered.

It’s in this light we should consider the real lunatics.  Those who encouraged a business model which ended in liquidation, only to come back to the table demanding a fledgling incorporation ‘act like a big club’.  There’s a fair amount of research suggesting humans are hard-wired for religiosity.  We search for something to believe in, then stick with it as best we can.  If you have grown to believe that one more outrageous act will deliver European glory, a good harvest or a rain cloud, part of you will buy into it.

Stewart Regan’s “concern for the Scottish game” at newco Rangers financial position will be genuine, although the “Armageddon” merchant from the SFL has long left the scene.  He notes, “Rangers have got a strong economic impact, not just for Glasgow, but for Scotland generally”.  Well, oldco sure had an economic impact, on the public purse and several hundred creditors.  Mr Regan’s words should be a warning.

This morning Rangers International served notice that their AGM would take place on 22 December, just days within the permitted time period.  Accounts are normally issued with this notice, but for some reason, they were not on this occasion.  They are required 21 days before the meeting (i.e. within days); I’ve no idea what to expect, but it’s sure to be a quintessential Rangers document.

Some great offers on Celtic books and DVDs at CQNBookstore, a name already telling only part of the story!

So who has he brought in? We know Guidetti had been on the radar for approximately 18 months.

  2. But Rocket Man

I do agree, there should be a better feeder club route…. You mentioned the team Oostende in Belgium…. If there is a link up there, we should get Henderson, Fisher and couple of others over there on the proviso they get 1st team experience.

  3. Sad news about Arthur Montford, if he was one of them it never showed.

May eternal light shine upon him.

  4. 67Heaven ... I am Neil Lennon ....The angels are with Wee Oscar in Heaven.. Ibrox belongs to the creditors on

THE BIG LIE CONTINUES……BUT TRUTH WILL PREVAIL IN THE COURTS..

  5. Ronny brought in all the shite and the scouting network brought in the good ones.

It’s like the lenny years only in reverse.

  6. RIP Arthur Montford.

I met him once in Lennox Castle Hospital when he was visiting his brother. I spoke football with him and told him I was a Celtic supporter. Mr Montford replied, “You are a wise young man, to have picked Celtic as your team to follow.”

    A proper gentleman.

  7. Rocket man…

    He did….

Utd snapped him up, loaned him to Queens Park for a season, then he had a great season with Utd last year…. He’s still only 20, so was chased from Celtic at 17 or so.

Surely our scouting team or football department could be humble enough to admit they made a mistake, a show an intent to sign the boy when he’s playing so well for Utd.

  8. Jmmccormick,

Stan went off early in the 2nd half.

Pearson played ok but I remember wgs swapping him and thommo and it improved immensely.

The sending off for hertz help annaw mindya :)

  9. In Inverness tonight, thanks to BT and Captain Beefheart for reminding me to go to Gellions….was in the place 5 minutes and 2 local wallopers got barred. Great pub though, also would recommend the tapas restaurant on Castle St….great food and service.

For those of you not keen on RD, would you take Brendan Rogers as manager? I suspect that he may be looking for work in the not too distant future.

You would think! Well let’s say we kept him on. It was only by playing regular first team football at high-ish level he got a move to the EPL. Would he have got that with us? Probably not.

  14. Re Brendan Rogers……I often compare him to Chauncey Gardner…..nothing he says or does so far will alter my opinion. Just my opinion, as I said earlier…WTF do I know.

  16. I still don’t see Armstrong as good enough to go right into our first team, in a year, maybe. Those mentioned on here might, just might be good enough for us playing in the SPL. Are any of them good enough for Europe, I don’t think so.

  17. If we don’t get guys on proper contracts, our starting point for next season’s CLQs will be worse than this season.

  18. Jmmccormick,

Aye he did. Not long into 2nd half.

As I said, wgs swapped him and thommo and it just clicked. Thommo didn’t last much longer after the goal though.

I was ok during the game. Trying to impress her Auld man:)

belief structure and the debt lunatics

Paul I would argue the debt lunatics burrowed deep into the psyche of the hun firstly and that the belief structure followed thereafter

The disgraced former owner was known as a ‘debt’ financier using things like land evaluations of ibrox(exaggerated) to access capital markets

The disgraced murray as Auldheid pointed out had the chance to resolve disputes when the legned took over.he chose not to.he opted to finance walterenomics. The folly ended on 14th jun 2012′

The debt lunatics surfed on the wave of we are the people. The mental psyche of the club walter smith always wished well was unlimited availability of money, money that would have to be paid.

Still the cheat thinks they done no wrong. There is no insight into any of their behaviour. That money was there to be used as and when they wanted and woe betide anyone speakin out,alf young etc

but the update of the entitlement narrative(an extension of we were the people behavioural trait) is RECONSTRUCTION if they dont get what they are entitled to(go up as champs)

it hurts them having to pay back loans,

so what we get is negativity,if we are not there its rubbish be it club or country.

I thank god I dont follow that club.

as Scottish football is showing signs of recovery.

Alas I feel the fan in blue, thro entitlement and bloated funding from bank of scotland. They are akin to a heroin addict except their fix came banks who were already comprimised by the amount they doled out.so no fix is forthcoming.they have to learn poind in is what you have to spend.(pigs do fly!)

dave murray conceived, brought to plan, and carried on with practices that ended the club.it starts with and ends with him, nowt went on without his involvement.

in regrdards mash, how far back does he go with our hero?

    hope all is good Celts

    hail hail

  20. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

I hope big Tam Gemmell makes a full recovery, great player and character.

Terrible news about Arthur Montrford, a fan with a mic. He loved football and his commentary in the Scotland Czechoslovakia and Scotland Wales qualifiers were fantastic.

When I was younger and stayed in Drumchapel, I would see Arthur on the train occasionally, dressed very dapper and very nice to people who spoke to him. He lived in Old Drumchapel.

Today’s Scottish commentators are very much poor relations in the commentary department. Arthur along with Bill McLaren were the best Scottish sports commentators.

Arthur, may you rest in peace.
