The wisdom of Hearts owner Ann Budge’s comments to the BBC that “Borrowing money for a particular capital programme you can understand, but running up debts that are prevalent in football is beyond my understanding really” is now, in 2014, surely beyond dispute.
Clubs are at liberty to borrow for infrastructure, or in exceptional circumstances, but in the normal course of business, borrowing for football costs should limited to covering the short-term fluctuations in cash-flow.
This thinking was orthodoxy until Sir David Murray led Scottish football by the nose into a spiral of debt accumulation. The Murray Gospel found many converts among us, those who spoke against it were hounded as heretics. Debt accumulation was the new crusade, the promised land could be reached with just one more brave act, apparently.
Suggesting this was self-harming nonsense to adherents who had supported a debt-fuelled battle for years attacked a fundamental pillar of their belief system. Reactions were seldom considered.
It’s in this light we should consider the real lunatics. Those who encouraged a business model which ended in liquidation, only to come back to the table demanding a fledgling incorporation ‘act like a big club’. There’s a fair amount of research suggesting humans are hard-wired for religiosity. We search for something to believe in, then stick with it as best we can. If you have grown to believe that one more outrageous act will deliver European glory, a good harvest or a rain cloud, part of you will buy into it.
Stewart Regan’s “concern for the Scottish game” at newco Rangers financial position will be genuine, although the “Armageddon” merchant from the SFL has long left the scene. He notes, “Rangers have got a strong economic impact, not just for Glasgow, but for Scotland generally”. Well, oldco sure had an economic impact, on the public purse and several hundred creditors. Mr Regan’s words should be a warning.
This morning Rangers International served notice that their AGM would take place on 22 December, just days within the permitted time period. Accounts are normally issued with this notice, but for some reason, they were not on this occasion. They are required 21 days before the meeting (i.e. within days); I’ve no idea what to expect, but it’s sure to be a quintessential Rangers document.
Some great offers on Celtic books and DVDs at CQNBookstore, a name already telling only part of the story!

I know you’re not based in the UK,but the Amazon offer below may be of interest.
http://www.theguardian.com/business/2014/nov/26/black-friday-britain-where-best-deals
Today, Thursday is Thanksgiving holiday in the US of A.
Families travel from all corners to be at home with their families, eat a turkey based dinner together, celebrate the origins of the USA, watch football and generally end up falling out, again.
A bit like Celtic Park and any day on CQN.
Tonight I hope Salzburg are the turkeys and we give them a right good stuffing, while we all cheer on loudly.
Happy Thanksgiving to all US based CQNers,
and please don’t be celebrating too loudly, as your American relatives will wonder why you are hollering at the TV watching “SOCCER.”

I would offer Kris a two year contract with an option for a third, with the third year on a reduced base salary and then a balance on pay per game.
But I may be less than objective as I greatly admire the work he and his wife do to uphold our traditions and heritage.

Completely understand what your saying.. If kris and his family are still with us next season i wouldnt complain. Fantastic people.
My opinion was based on what happens on the pitch.. Just cant understand why in this day and age kris doesnt look like the averae pro footballer. Im not saying hes overweight but i do think he could be more mobile.

Good Luck and my money says that they’ll offer you an extension and a pay rise to stay.

Steven Naismith: The people’s footballer or disowned Ranger?
Rip Phillip Hughes. His death at 25 today should resonate with Celtic supporters in an echo of John Thomson.
Great sympathy also for the lad Sean Abbott who bowled the ball.
Sam English was decimated by what had happened to Johnny. May Sean have the strength and support to live long and fruitfully.

Chris Sutton at it again at the Daily Record, this time warning Celtic how the fans will react if they do not secure the signings of Commons and Guidetti.
Celtic have offered both players a contract, and in Guidetti’s case, have agreed a fee with City. On top of that, the club has shown a change in policy by keeping the support informed of the situation with both players. What more does Sutton want them to do?
I believe Guidetti will sign, but if he doesn’t, it will be because he prefers richer pickings in a bigger league. There’s not a lot Celtic can do about that.
As for Commons, I hope he signs, but Sutton is so far out of touch with the Celtic support on this one. I attend games and hear the reaction of supporters and if Kris decides to continue his career elsewhere, there certainly will not be the fans revolt that Sutton predicts. It will be more like a case of thanks and good luck.

If you are still there I’ll be back a week on Saturday if you fancy a few.
Can’t play links at work.
Have you tried the Storey Bridge Hotel, or the Breakfast Creek, for a beer?

Sitting here, in a rather heated debate with many, as to what exactly is the point of short bowling in cricket.

Who cares what Sutton says in a discredited rag, CQN was meant to be an antidote to that crap
Sutton and the DR will delighted at the free publicity and hits
lionroars67 –
So if the DR were to . . . let’s see . . . compare the Celtic owner to a brutal dictator, or . . . perhaps . . . label the Celtic players thugs and thieves, the Celtic supporters would never know about it, because we don’t look at what they are saying about the club?
Aye. Let’s just let them say what they like and leave them to it.
That will work.
Really looking forward to the big game tonight. Got a very busy day so should pass quickly.
A wee bit disappointed that the upper tiers weren’t required but the packed bottom tiers will still generate a great atmosphere.
2-1 Celtic.

The DR have had commercial relationships with Celtic and Celtic players all my life, no matter the depths of gutter journalism that publication has gone to in relation to all things Celtic
I and many Celtic fans do not wish to read the DR, thats why i click on to CQN
If you wish to be consumed by the DR and its crap knock yersell oot
I also suspect Zagreb will not beat Astra, which sends us through regardless.
Back later this afternoon for pre-match.
Hail Hail.

Sorry. I forgot we only discuss the DR when we’re talking about Sevco.
Won’t happen again.

Apologies, two weeks this Saturday but still time for a couple of nights of cheer at least.

Oh and at around 7.00 this evening try to catch 5 minutes of Clyde where my Bhoy, whilst being driven to the game by me, will be trying to “Beat The Pundit”.
Enjoy your day bhoys and ghirls.
That poor lad in Australia.
Feel so much for his family and the poor lad who bowled it.
Having watched a lot and played a tiny bit at school I’ve always admired the bravery of guys who’ll stand there as a hard ball is thrown at them at the best part of 100mph. RIP Phil Hughes

Chris Sutton…daily record…and a dig at celtic on the day of a big game…
Who’da thunkit?
Craig Whyte arrested in Mexico the story must be ready
My younger brother michael (50) and me used to run aboot the jungle many years ago supporting our beloved celtic, had a few face to face meetings with the huns where michael was always happy to oblige if you get my drift.
Well he has been confined to a wheelchair for nearly 20 years after a accident and has got on with his life, never complaining or feeling sorry for himself, still a massive tim and his place is a shrine to his beloved celtic.
Yesterday he got the news he has aggressive bladder cancer and will have to have it removed in early January, i really don’t know what he’s done to deserve this after all he’s been through.
Was in last night seeing him and he told me that he told the surgeon that he better be out of hospital for the sevco game because he’s hoping to get tickets! Whit a man!.
So all you out there, a need you to say a wee prayer for my wee brother please.
A love ye mick (there a said it.) And i always will.
Fi yer ugly big bro!!!.
Morning all.
Dawn is not yet upon us but the news that our favourite Craig has been tracked down has. Can he be extradited from ole Mexico? One so hopes, as there must be quite a few sweating on his revelations from those tapes.
