Benfica arrive after 3 competitive games

767

Benfica will arrive in Glasgow tomorrow without having played a competitive game since 2 September, when they thumped Nacional 3-0 in Lisbon.  They arranged a friendly against Real Betis on Wednesday in an attempt to prepare them for this week’s Champions League challenge but the lack of meaningful football is less than ideal, especially at a time when clubs are looking to build sharpness.

Celtic were idle for two weeks before Saturday but have played nine competitive games this season compared to Benfica’s three.  They also have the benefit of not having to sacrifice a day’s preparation to travel.

Fitness late in the game, perhaps accentuated by the use of substitutes, could be crucial.  Celtic’s best chance of winning this one will come in the second half. Run the lungs out of them, Celtic.

    Terrible result, yes. Performance?

    From last year alone:

St Johnstone (H) 0-1, Kilmarnock (A) 3-3, Hibs (H) 0-0, Aberdeen A (1-1) – all a heck of a lot worse than Saturday. (In my opinion, of course.)

Also, Murdo annoys me. I want that recorded.

I haven’t heard a decent pundit on that show for a lot ae months.

Investigation into betting irregularities on SPL game at the weekend

Apparently a £1m bet was placed online on St Johnstone to win 2:1 with Commons as first scorer placed at 100/1.

The ispn has been traced back to Celtic Park and the computer of one P Lawell has been confiscated.

Was hearing that we were going to have a look at Thomas Hitzlsperger the other day.

I believe he is still a free agent.

  18. The Bhoy from the Village on

I rarely post however I couldn’t let the appointment of Mr Collum to referee a champions league match pass without comment. This appointment confirms the influence of Hugh Dallas is still alive and well Collum is an acolyte of Dallas and is being rewarded for his “loyalty” from within the corridors at Nyon

Collum is without doubt one of the worst referee’s I have ever seen and never strays from ensuring he is “on message” from the SFA blazers

I wonder if the UEFA Delegate will judge Collums performance with his back to the action

Milan should be afraid as they will never have encountered such impending incompetance ……..
