Bet your novelty duck there are lessons to be learned

1033

Celtic probably anticipated the three match suspension Uefa imposed on Scott Brown following his red card for an off the ball incident against Barcelona, if they didn’t, they should have.  That’s not to say the decision is not “harsh”, as the club described it, as far as off the ball incidents go, this was a lesser offence, but it was a red card awarded for an off the ball incident nonetheless.

Are there lessons to be learned?  You can bet your novelty Celtic duck on it.

No more on this, or injuries, until late next week.  Absolute focus is required on the task ahead.  Ajax will arrive in town on Monday low on confidence, let’s take them.

A CQN’er has kindly donated two tickets for Tuesday’s game at Celtic Park against Ajax for the 1254125 appeal.  You can bid for them by silent auction by emailing your bid to ajax@celticquicknews.co.uk.

Please include telephone contact details.  Auction will close at 19:00 on Sunday.  The winning bidder will be notified on Sunday evening, tickets need to be paid for directly to the 1254125 MyDonate campaign before 12:00 on Monday or the tickets will be offered to an alternative bidder.

Many thanks for participating.

You think its ok to give a half-time teamtalk telling the full-back to “feed the monkey”! when talking about the winger who is a is a black player .And he’s saying this in front of several other black men. Is Hogson just stupid or has he got issues?

  2. Anyone think that , now dear ole engurland are at the ole world cup ( which is their rightful place and only johnny foreigner should have to qualify) , certain elements of the media wouldn’t be averse to a change of custodian?

Or have i been a paranoid Tim for too long ?

Mind , it’s been proved NOT to be paranoia , hasn’t it ?

  3. Did it emerge via that rag Ernie? I know it is simple to have a go at political correctness but its supporters don’t always help matters. It has had some good though.

Paul 67 seems confident about Ajax. Our injuries and suspensions worry me. What do other tims think? I still feel we won’t lose though.

    Coldlymore tweeted about Hodgson.

Essentially he defended RH and expressed his disappointment with the media. Racism is a serious problem so misrepresenting RH does damage to the campaign to erase it. It belittles serious work by making any racists appear to be petty PC brigade.

Hodgson is a gent and has done nothing to my knowledge to be tarnished as he has been. Classic English media undermining English national football !

  5. Bamboo, it matters not particularly what I think. Rather it matters what the player thinks. Cynics may say he doesn’t want to lose the goodwill of the manager in a world cup year. However, the player’s voice sounded devoid of upset towards Roy. Manufactured nonsense.

I think that’s what the Telegraph said.

It’s possible of course that it’s been twisted by the press.

Player talks to a mate or a relative about half time team talk.

Recipient then talks to his new best mate who is a hack of some sort, who realises how he could spin a bit of a gossipy chat in to a scandal and sells the story to the press making some £££ in the process.

Player embarrassed by outcome and decides to keep quiet.

  7. My thoughts on the Hodgson-gate scandal

No one in the dressing room was offended by the comment

But someone fancied a bit of sh*t-stirring knowing that if they give the quote to someone from the sun newspaper, then they will spin it into all sorts of nonsense because that is what they do

So there was no race row in the dressing room, it was only the sun that invented the race issue, it really is the dregs of a publication, closely followed by several others

Bamboo – Roy Hodgson is far from stupid.

What he said at half time is a million miles from the ‘lazy n#gg#r ‘remark that got Ron Atkinson sacked.

But unfortunately Roy Hodgson is having to manage his team in the era of anti-social networking and 24 hr ‘news’.

Bilel Mohsni: I had choice of gangs or football.

I choose money laundering, theft, extortion, depraved indifference, and killing off Scottish football. I broke bad.

    Indeed.

Why join a gang of petty criminals ,when you can join a gang of proper criminals!

Please come out with it and tell us would you prefer to be a citizen of the Queen or a subject of a republic? There is nothing more surer that independence will lead to Scotland becomming a republic: might take a wee while but it will happen.

You obviously detest Salmon but you at least acknowledge the good he has done: namely no further education tuition fees of £9,000 a year, and a freezing of council tax.

There was nothing racist in Roy Hodgson anecdote. It is a story about monkeys being cleverer than humans.

Certainly the monkeys are cleverer than whatever England player took offence.

  12. incidentally, i have no issues with a newspaper reporting what hodgson said, albeit it came from a grass, but to use the comment to invent a race row story for the purposes of selling newspapers is the lowest of the low

  13. John O’Neil

Well someone in that dressing room was shocked enough by what he heard to go to the press with it. Ive always thought Hogson was a good guy but you cant use that kind of language these days. Especially when your the national manager.

  14. googybhoy,

  19. What language Bamboo? Are we not allowed to reference that particular animal when in the company of black people? Good grief. That has the makings of a fine comedy sketch.

    ……,……………

Got to disagree there. The use of the word monkey here clearly means monkey. David Attenborough has made a career out of monkeys. Does that make him a racist.????

So you think, during the half time team talk in what is probably the most important game of his career, the manager decides to motivate his team by racially abusing some of his players?

Shaping up to be a good week, Frank McAvennie Q&A tonight, then flight down to Glasgow on Monday for the Ajax game courtesy of my boss ( technically he’s sending me to Reid Kerr for a course) ticket sorted…Happy days

  25. I think it is really important we give Darnell Fisher or if Dylan is our deputy right back, a run out tomorrow.

The noises seem to indicate that Lustig will be fit for Tuesday, but if he only lasts 70 minutes, I don’t think it wise to introduce someone to a competitive debut in such an important game; even more so if we play at a high intensity, then it can be difficult to get the pace of the game.

Tomorrow, I may be tempted to go for a route one approach with Balde up front, supported by Commons, and save Stokes, Pukki, and Samaras, who have all had long journeys for Tuesday.
