Boyata crucial part of CL planning, failure to emulate Gretna

1050

I know Ronny Deila was delighted Dedryck Boyata pitched up at Glasgow Airport last night.  He’s a player the manager has known about for some time and one who was not on the Man City available list when we secured the loan deal for Jason Denayer a year ago.

The mechanics of the deal are interesting.  It’s quite possible it wouldn’t have happened at all without the success Jason enjoyed in Glasgow.  A year ago Jason was a complete unknown, below the pecking order than Dedryck, but we gave him a platform and now he’s a full Belgian international.  The pitch we put to Dedryck was along the lines of “Look what Jason achieved here”.  If we’d singed Dedryck instead of Jason a year ago, Jason would still be an unknown and Dedryck would be a Belgian international.

Assuming no late hiccups, Ronny will know his central defensive pairing for the Champions League qualifiers is sorted, allowing him to concentrate on other areas.

There are no guarantees in football, least of all with Champions League qualification, where we have three awkward knock-out rounds, but we’re starting the summer from a good place.

There’s so much to discuss about yesterdays’ Fir Park hilarity, the consequences of which will be profound.  More on this later in the week, but a few points on Motherwell.  For a team with such glaring shortcomings they deserved the scale of their victory.  Barraclough took a squad who finished 11th in the league into two challenging games and out-thought his opponent.

However, if Celtic fans behaved the way Motherwell fans behaved yesterday your Government would be all over it by now.  I’ve seen flares thrown onto pitches, I’ve seen pitch invasions (although I don’t remember seeing one congregating in front of opposition fans), but I’ve never seen a player smacked in the face and leg by a spectator’s flag, and I’ve never seen anything close to this entire repertoire from fans at a single game.

Who knows what the score would have been had Newco faced the team who finished 10th in the Premiership! Their attempt to emulate Grenta in winning three successive promotions always sounded like a tall order.  They came close, but they’re no Gretna. Not. Nearly. As. Good.

Oh the irony. You have to smile when you see the original comment and consider the results. At least I do.

Cliques or not by his own admission this site has been a godsend to people like Oldtim who would have given up on football had it not been for the likes of Aldo and pablo(god red this soul) who looked after him and brought him to Celtic park and rekindled his interest and attendance at matches

I have met a good few on here and have become firm friends with some

    I don’t give a flying feck if you call I a clique

    I call it friendship

  3. Bmcuw,

I confess I don’t know much about Mark Warburton. What I do know is that he is an out of work manager keeping his options open.

It is only natural he will be complementary. To many , Rangers are the same club, but those more informed know differently.

As a poster recently stated ,the deceased club would not have wimpered out of such a defining set of games.that they have just faced. This is Sevco who performed like the recently formed club that they are .

Here here ……. If you’re Celtic, come into the parlour …….

  9. hamiltontim @ 07:19,

Well once again glad to here it.

There is of course quite legitimate agendas, like the one you seem to working tirelessly on – Good Luck with it.

There is undoubtedly Cliques, my favourite was the Wishaw bhoys. I know SOAL still comes on but when NAFOs and WG were all on it was priceless.

But I know more surreptitious and sinister things were afoot it has been openly admitted in the past, and the characteristics can be recognised.

To be fair the blog is much to big now for this behaviour to have serious impact and the opinion formers are many and form all shades of opinion which has got to be healthy.

But it can still be hurtful to individuals, Tom is a courts controversy and can at times be a little belligerent in my opinion but with his health issues (hopefully) behind him and being back in Scotland and seeing his beloved Glasgow Celtic again he seemed a much more contented chap until recently.

It could be that TMcL’s recent attitude has stirred-up a pot and this behaviour is a one off and that this nonsense is really a thing of the past, I hope so.

But you’re a School Teacher so You are more aware than most of how damaging Social Media can be for an individual. Even us big kids that should know better.

    Lennybhoy @ 08:20,

Your post was excellent read it again this morning and I didn’t do it justice by focussing on a small element.

As BT says this site is excellent, It is great Social media, great campaigning a great resource for all things Celtic, people work very hard to make it so.

I do not want to take away anything from CQN and the positive contribution it’s made but if you see my post to HT – above – stuff has gone on And it does concern me.

Hope we all have a Champion day.

  12. RIP Charles Kennedy.

Gave the speech I have ever seen when losing his seat at the last General Election. He seemed a genuine man. He had his demons with alcohol but he was man enough to admit them publicly. A huge loss in Scottish politics due to his honesty.

Moving swiftly on from politics. What is going on regrading Tom McL? Emails flying about? I know that we are not all the same and some of us are born and brought up in different areas but we all support the same club.

I have debated and argued with most on here. I stand by my guns. If I think I am right I will debate my point as far as it takes me.

I have a policy of forgiving and forgetting. Life is too short.

I think we can all be stubborn or in a bad mood and take it out on the ones you love. I do it many times in the home I can have a short fuse and shout at all manner of things like the towel that wouldn;t stay hung up this morning! My wife just laughs at me she thinks I am a nutter.

There are times when people are hurting they hurt the club they love and the people who also support that club. I have seen full blown arguments and fighting many times on the terraces, the stands and on CSC’s. It happens. We are a diverse support with in a country where we suspect we are treated differently to others but ultimately it is most of the time not 100% proveable (that a word?).

We can get a helluva frustrated. I don;t think it is anger it is frustration. That frustration if allowed to build usually results in a blow out. Our paranioa is long ridiculed in this country.

It appears yet again we were not paranoid enough.

How this man was allowed to cheat us is beyond me.

    http://kerrydalestreet.co.uk/topic/530564/91/

He will be appearing in Glasgow at the Orange Fest this Saturday.

I have no idea what has sparked GCT/Tom McL to leave CQN but it is a loss. Others looking in will probably body swerve too. It’s none of my business what has went on people fall out all the time BUT we all support the same club and I think LennyBhoy summed it up well.

The word clique is a CQN buzz word. There are plenty others like flounce, beyonce, gazebo, roasted/toasted cheese, etc….

These words are used by regular posters or dare I say clique? No. I wouldn;t describe anyone of the Celtic persuasion as a clique. It’s a poor choice of English by some on here to automatically scream clique. People are friends, people may live closer to each other, people may meet at CQN corner, there are also relatives who post, there are multiple name posters who even argue with themselves.

To me this is what makes this blog special. It’s diversity and the debate which is healthy and many. I enjoy it thouroughly and have learned a lot of things on here.

The one thing that saddens me is Celtic supporters falling out. We have enough to deal with and contend with without falling out with each other. I am transparent. Anybody wants to know anything about me ask me. I have no problems sharing anything with anyone.

What we have to remember is that like our emblem we are all part of one of the 4 leaves of the 4 leaf clover. Those leaves are linked they sometimes overlap and at other times are blown against opne another and buffered in the wind but they remain strong held together with the stem or stalk if you prefer. This is the club, the values, the players and the management. We are all together and fighting the elements of our environment to stay strong in the field where we ply our trade.

Lets get some hand shaking, emails sent, phone calls made. Get discussions held if need be and cut this nonsense out.

It’s been a cracking season and we have a lot to look forward to. Shake hands and move on.

You mentioned the Wishaw Bhoys. I worked beside WG in a previous life and had the pleasure of his company on a trip to Dublin in 1989 or 1990 to see The Bhoys. TSOAL had the pleasure of his company on a few occasions through CQN, he is a Roaster but a funny one. Never had the pleasure of meeting NAFOS yet.

Clicked onto the BBC news headlines just now and was shocked to see that Charles Kennedy had passed away. I knew Charles from Glasgow University. He was very friendly and even then you knew he would be successful in any line of work he chose.

As others have said he had his demons but to pass away at 55, he was still in his prime. So sad for his family. Goodbye Charlie , it was a privilege to have met you.

Moreover, 44,000 season tickets have been bought already for next season at Celtic Park. With some effort and engagement, we might yet welcome back the many who were walloped with the double whammy of Tony Mowbray’s chin and the deepest, longest economic recession in history.

I’m afraid though, those who are suffering from the withdrawal of their Old Firm fix, will need to continue to endure their cold turkey.

    Them’s the breaks.
