Boycott call as Celtic fans money promised to re-establish Rangers

1670

The Gang of 10 SPL club who will meet next week will decide whether or not we have a morally sound and ethically administered league. The meeting wasn’t announced three hours before overtures were being made on terms a Rangers Newco would be prepared to agree to in order to win their backing.

Effectively, the other 10 will asked to hold their noses, put all moral judgement aside and tell Rangers Newco the terms they need to agree to in order to get back into the SPL, retain their history and limit consequences of the alleged improper registration of players. Some of those hoping to front a Rangers Newco are prepared to do whatever is necessary to get back on a level playing field with those who have spent the last 20 years playing honest football and paying their taxes.

The question to be considered is not just what is ethically right in sport; it’s more personal than that. This is about what is going to happen to your money, the football club that defines who you are, and your relationship with the game for the rest of your life.

The schemers and cheats are not beaten and they are not going to give up. There is no honour, no ‘dignity’, no moral compass that understands there are consequences for decades of rampant abuse. All there is, is a sense of entitlement that I struggle to comprehend.

That sense of entitlement is about to promise bucket loads of your cash to someone else in order to restore the old certainties. This time, they are not even going to use the tax man’s money, they are going to use YOUR money. The money you put into the game will be distributed and used to flush the smaller clubs, who will in turn restore Rangers to their position of ascendency.

This is not sport, it’s a disgusting abuse of Celtic fans. You are not even being asked, you are being expected to open your wallets and pay whatever price it takes to put Rangers back on top.

I have never called for a boycott of a newspaper, never mind a football game, but this is not football anymore. We cannot be party to this. It is not a passing-issue either. Rules are being made with consequences that could last 100 years.

You have suffered from decades of malpractice and have earned the right to go to Ibrox in two weeks to enjoy the reflection of honest endeavour. After this, our next away game will be at Kilmarnock. If the Gang of 10 attempt an insurrection using your money, join me in a picket outside Celtic Park when these tickets are available for sale, and outside the away gates at Rugby Park on game day, to explain to Celtic fans the consequences of supporting the clubs who would use your money to establish a new Rangers.

Unite and bring the full power of Celtic against those who would rather do a deal with the devil than establish an honest, even, playing field.

If the Gang of 10 give Rangers Newco their way, using your money, we cannot go back to an away game, not this season, not ever. We must demand this discipline from each other and insist the club refuse all away tickets.

Having paid our taxes, registered footballers in an honest manner and brought international acclaim to Scottish football, the Celtic Movement is being corrupted by the lowest common denominator.

Our magnificent sporting institution is being destroyed. For the love of all that is decent and meritocratic in the game, we need help from England, Europe or wherever to move out of Scottish football.

I am just about finished with the entire, corrupt, shambles that masquerades as a sport.

Issue six of CQN Magazine….. has sold out! None left, sorry.

    RobertTressel,

I think Celtic can box clever with the Gang of 10. Let’s face it, at this precise moment in time, we OWN Scottish football. There isn’t a team that can compete with us in terms of support and finance.

I’d imagine we can offer enough concessions to them to keep them in line. And if they go nuclear, (which for me would be 50% of gate receipts) then there are still ways Celtic can get around that, before our club and its fans decide what to do to them to punish such insolence.

Thanks Italia – needed a bit of a positive spin this morning. Couldn’t keep up with the blog yesterday due to work and be off today as well for the same reason so my quick read through left me feeling pretty depressed about the situation.

Mind you it’s good to see the Media are back to constructing fairy stories for the Rangers support. Might have something to do with the police telling them to calm the situation before the 25th March.

  2. How can Scottish football survive without rangers?

A club that doesn’t pay other member clubs their share of the ticket money?

A club that doesn’t pay NI or PAYE?

A club that flatly refuses to pay it’s tax bills?

A club that refuses to pay the balance of transfer fees for players they bought?

A club that doesn’t give a monkeys kiss for anyone else in the league except themselves?

A club steeped in bigotry and hatred?

A club whose fans regularly disgrace themselves on their travels?

A club run by and owned by shysters and wheeler dealers from the dregs of the financial barrel?

A club whose manager has drawn sympathy from all sections of Scottish football even though he has not been threatened, attack or received bombs in the post?

Beats the hell out of me how Scottish Football can survive without this fine upstanding Club.

The answers to all of these questions will not I repeat will not be found in the mainstream press today or any other day soon nor will it be found at the SFA or the SPL whitewashers service.

I agree totally with what you say:

I too firmly believe that there will be no CVA and It will be liquidation. The new buyers, whether that be P Murray, Ticketus and the rest of there consortium or A.N. Other are going to buy the trade and assets. They are not going to take responsibilities of debt end of. They want a CVA but with HMRC involved and likely to be the preferred Creditor, the CVA will not happen. The Newco will indeed be imbroiled in litigation for some time to come.

Any newco if indeed it could be formed will function on vastly reduced financial terms. The current first team players of RFC will indeed be too rich for any Newco; Whittaker, Davis, McGregor will be sold in the summer to raise much needed cash and to vastly reduce expenditure. The £10 million black hole ‘discovered’ by Whyte still exists. If Ticketus are part of the rescue plan they are further beholding to faceless Investors, risky in my view. It will be very interesting to see how many season tickets are purchased over the next few years, regardless if Ticketus are involved with acquisition of newco. HMRC can pursue any newco whether it be this scenario or any other newco in other businesses trying to phoenix where they believe an oldco should carry the debt of the oldco. It is my understanding if any newco whether it is the orcs we are talking about or any other business, mirrors the oldco then HMRC may be able to pursue newco for oldco debts. It is covered in the Companies Act, not sure of Section but might be Section 216.

Indeed from what is out there, in the media, it appears to me that the proposed new Backers want the liquidation type of asset acquisition. They will then offer a CVA on certain debts and obligations they would be buying in order to try and and avoid complications with the SFA and SPL.

As with you, I do not share the doom and gloom of some on here and I am confident they will be liquidated .

    Hope the above makes sense.

    Keep the Faith!

  4. Morning all from a dull North Ayrshire. Even the sun in my heart, which has been warming me all week, has gone walkies this morning. What is the prognosis for them? 5 Live has them in good heart, courtesy of Roddy Forsyth and Jane somebody, who is a rabid fan of the bankrupt lot.

  5. Che at 8:35,

Ah I see now and thanks for taking the time to clarify that.

There MAY be ways around this if Uefa were on board, ie we left the sfa/ SPL due to they’re mismanagement of the Newco Huns status Eg, presumably there would be court action against the football association?

If they’re corrupt then we should shout it loudly, there are many football clubs who are Celtic friendly and can support our case.

Finally, I would still pay for my season ticket to watch Celts play the Glenburn cherrypickers etc, in my case I’d probably find more money to support Celtic in doing the right thing, I guess you would innaw, we are a powerful voice/ group when we are motivated.

If auldheid or Aussietim Kitalba are around they may care to expand.

    :>)

    Cheers Che!

  6. RobertT – the media are being fed a line by MediaHouse (who seem to have got their act together again after a period of panic). The line is essentially: “calm down, little bear, everything will soon be OK in the big hoose”

The big question is: On whose behalf are they peddling this line?

The obvious answer is the Admins, who run the club and who are looking for a buyer (so they say). Restoring a sense of calm might tempt interested parties to make a move and rid the Admins of this turbulent, erm, priest…

But IMHO the legal obstacles to a quick sale of CW’s assets are many and significant, and it is difficult to believe that a serious buyer could be blinded to the financial wreck that is RFC’s current predicament by a few supportive articles in the Daily Record.

So is Media House spinning on behalf of Paul Murray? He is (on the face of it) the potential beneficiary of a player wage cut, giving him time to put something together and turning the players and fans decisively against Whyte. Again, unlikely. I think Murray – like his namesake before him – is a blowhard. He will be their Michael Knighton, their “Cambuslang”.

I also found in interesting that the Admins seemed to be having a wee dig at him the other day. Talking about people who mouth off in the papers… It seemed an odd thing to say if finding a buyer was priority number one…

So I as again – who benefits from this line? How about Craig Whyte, everyone’s cartoon baddy? His plan has clearly always been liquidation, through which he makes a tidy profit. And arguably the player deal makes that more, not less likely, as it fails to address the full monthly loss and essentially defers pain for three months. And for all the talk of stripping Whyte of his shares, no courtroom moves have been made as yet. It’s all very vague…

But now of course, the Orcs are happy – and this is significant. The immediate threat has been removed (so they are told). There is no need to panic, to break the habit of a lifetime and actually start asking some difficult questions of the men in charge of their club.

And Pas a result perhaps now the real players in this situation -Whyte, Duff and Phelps, Ticketus, all of whom have been in place since day one – can get on with enacting Plan A…

  7. Re the Chris Lowry article, am I correct in saying that major shreholder of Independent News and Media plc Denis O’Brien is also a significant shareholder in Celtic plc?

I’m sure O’Brien will be delighted at such a sloppy hatchet job by one of the Indo hacks.

We don’t need no stinking Scottish football, if it stinks clean it up or move to a safe distance while it dies.

I do not think it is a case of just totalling up the wages to reach the £1 million figure mate. By reducing wages you also reduce the amount of PAYE, NIC and other deductions to Players Pensions etc. All of these and probably reduction or withdrawal of bonuses would assist in reaching the £1 million figure.

I’m not sure Denis O’Brien is a significant shareholder in Celtic. I think he’s got £1m share but I agree, I’m not sure he’d be best pleased with the Independent.

He is only 2nd largest shareholder in Independent media group and at a talk in Belfast a couple of weeks ago he mentioned that he had a few battles with some of the media companies he’s involved with. Not sure the O’Reilly family were best pleased with him taking such a large shareholding in their business.

I don’t think he has very much (if anything) to do with day to day running of the group and probably not as much influence over them as he would like.

  16. So yesterdays deadline for a buyer has come and gone. Just like last weekends deadline for redundancies.

Nothing has changed. this week, except the admin guys have employed some PR to deflect whilst they continue to ensure that there is nothing left but a stadium and training ground at the end of all of this.

  24. Cheers, Mort, I understood O’Brien’s shareholding in Celtic is relatively small but it is a growing one, I trust he has a good relationship with Dermot Desmond (who will also be less than enthused by Lowry’s sloppy piece).

O’Brien and the O’Reillys, I imagine stabilising the business has been more important over the last few years rather than continuing the major boardroom strife!
