Boys in blue turn to Ibrox

661

Its seven months since the Worthington Group, who represent the interests of Craig Whyte, reported Charles Green and Imran Ahmed to the Serious Fraud Office over the ownership of Sevco 5088 Ltd.

Sevco 5088 Ltd bought and paid for irrevocable rights to buy the assets, including Ibrox Stadium and Murray Park, of Rangers Football Club PLC, in liquidation.  Those rights were subsequently assumed by a different company, Sevco Scotland Ltd, now called Rangers Football Club Ltd, who are a football club in the third tier of Scottish football.

The question is, how did Sevco Scotland acquire those rights?

When this question was raised back in April, it was reported that Rangers International PLC instructed Pinsent Masons to investigate the matter, but instead, Pinsents reported on whether Craig Whyte was involved in Sevco Scotland Ltd, a company he claimed no connection with.

The BBC, who broke the story yesterday evening, suggest Police Scotland are investigating if Craig Whyte is still involved with “Rangers”.  Although this would break the terms of Newco Rangers entry into Scottish football, it is not, of course, a crime, nor something the police would concern themselves with.

More importantly, the BBC suggest police want to speak to Charles Green, former chief executive of Rangers International PLC, about a document submitted to Companies House.  The dispute over the ownership of Sevco 5088 Ltd has played out through documents submitted to Companies House, not all of which can be legitimate.

Perhaps the biggest challenge of all to the Newco is that these matters have a history of taking a long time to resolve.  Time is not a commodity a company without bank borrowing or positive cashflow can afford.

If only any of us saw this coming………

Campaigners who planned a demonstration now say they will hold a victory rally.

John Greig, who personally plans to lay a wreath after the Club’s forthcoming Company AGM said:

“Ach, it’s a thought experiment really, sometimes described as a paradox, devised by Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger. It illustrates what he saw as the problem of the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics applied to everyday objects, ye ken?

The scenario presents a fitba’ player that may be both alive and dead, depending on an earlier random event. Although the original “experiment” was imaginary, similar principles have been researched and used in practical applications, fitba’ teams n clubs n companies n stuff.

Crazy, ah know, but the thought experiment is also often featured in theoretical discussions of the interpretations of quantum mechanics. Did you ken that, in the course of developing this experiment, Schrödinger coined the term Verschränkung (entanglement)?

Ach, at the end of the day, it’s really jist a wee bit o’ fun for the fans, a distraction, ye know whit ah mean?”.

    Old Firm derby

Celtic extended their lead at the top of the Scottish Premier League to five points on Saturday with a convincing 4-1 win over Ross County. With their great rivals, Rangers, still out of the picture, the Hoops are poised to cruise to their third consecutive league title.

However, despite the tepid state of the Scottish title race, could the enforced hiatus between the Glasgow rivals offer the Old Firm derby a fresh impetus when it returns for its 400th instalment?..Oh Wait..;-) (001)

After all doesn’t absence make the heart grow fonder?

Their place in the Championship next year already seems like a formality

It seems like a long time ago now that Rangers Football Club PLC were on the brink of oblivion with the club entering a state of liquidation back in June 2012. But, despite their financial woes and rejection from the Scottish Premier League, the blue half of Glasgow appears to be bouncing back towards the top tier once again with one of the greatest footballing rivalries set to be re-kindled.

Under the stewardship of former player, Ally McCoist, Rangers are storming the Scottish League One with 12 consecutive wins giving them a 14-point lead at the top of the table. Their place in the Championship next year already seems like a formality, a move that would leave them just one division shy of the Bhoys.

It hasn’t always been easy, highlighted this week with another police probe into former owner Craig Whyte, but the Glasgow giants rise was ultimately inevitable in a country where the footballing dynasty has been monopolised by the two rivals to an almost arrogant extent.

During the 122 years of the Scottish League, Rangers (54) and Celtic (44) have amassed a staggering 80% of league titles – including a current record run of 28 consecutive Old Firm successes since the 1984-85 season where it took a Sir Alex Ferguson-inspired Aberdeen to break the stranglehold on the league.

While this run looks set to continue for the short-term at least, it appears that before long, we will once again be able to bask in the primal, tribal passion that makes the Old Firm derby so engrossing.

It’s been 18 months since the sides met for the 399th Old Firm derby on 29th April 2012, but perhaps the extended break could be beneficial in order for the fixture to retain it’s symbolic status in Scottish lore.

Celtic’s 3-0 win at a lively Parkhead was the fourth time the rivals had met that season, following a rather ridiculous seven meetings the duo had contested from the season before.

Since 1947/48 the blues and the Bhoys have averaged over four matches per season, which makes it one of the most over-saturated fixtures in the world. In fact, when compared to some of the great footballing rivalries across Europe – the Old Firm derby stands out for it’s sheer regularity.

The Milan derby, contested between AC and Inter, has witnessed 221 confrontations while the El Clasico between Real Madrid and Barcelona also registers well below the Old Firm derby with 225 meetings, yet neither derby’s reputation is influenced by the amount of times the match is played.

Perhaps then, it is important for Scottish football to retain its prized possession by expanding the league and reducing the number of times the Glaswegians meet, a move that was agreed ‘unanimously’ in December 2012, but which has fallen mysteriously silent of late. After extensive research the most up-to-date piece of news came from April 2013 when a National Football Survey into the Scottish League structure showed that 87% of Scottish fans wanted to see an expanded Premier League with 51% of those wanting a 16-team division.

You can have no doubt when the old rivals meet again, and they will soon, that the passion will be more intense than ever with the supporters of both sides savouring every moment that they’ve waited for since Rangers were liquidated. Tickets will be snapped up in minutes, songs will be rewritten and bellowed out and banners will be more creative (and more lewd) than ever.

Good things come to those who wait and the Old Firm derby will be no exception.
