Brendan delighted with window as Celtic business complete

691

Brendan Rodgers declared himself delighted with his first transfer window as Celtic manager, which is now over, after the additions of Kolo Toure, Scott Sinclair, Moussa Dembele, Dorus de Vries and Cristian Gamboa.

Toure, Dembele and Sinclair, the managers three primary targets, were acquired early, while de Vries and right back, Gamboa, were added recently. Deals went close to the wire today but the hoped-for midfield player (which was never James McCarthy) didn’t materialise.

A permanent deal for a (known around these parts) central defender to backfill Jozo Simunovic, who was wanted by Torino, couldn’t be tied up either, so Torino also look to have missed their target.

You’ll hear direct from the manager soon enough but he’s got the calibre of recruit he wanted – which he didn’t know would be possible three months ago.

There was never anything possible to make a formidable Champions League group look any easier, but we’ll compete at the top table, and we’ll wipe the floor with all-comers domestically.

More tomorrow.

    Amazing.

You speak as if we’ve talked before.

Which is odd, as we never have.

Not on here, anyway. But elsewhere? With you calling yourself something else?

    Yes, I think so.

    You’re busted mate.

  2. Brendan will be off at end of season if he is messed around. CQN has resembled Pravda with this article: patently untrue Brendan is delighted. He was talking about another target last week

  3. I hate these long breaks between Celtic games. The blog is rarely at its best and occasionally breaks out into internecine clan warfare. I’m going to take a break for a week and log back in during the build up to the game versus the ethereal entity. I wonder what the chances are of it being troll free by that time.

Ach! You should’ve kept those for the January transfer window!

BTW – started re-reading Labyrinths last night.. There is no word for “moon” in the Southern hemisphere of Tlon…. :-))))

  5. Love the James Morrison story in the papers today :)

Because if he was the midfield target we worked even less hard than I thought.

How long does it take to lift a phone and say “I’m calling about James Morrison. Is there any scope for doing business there? No? Okay then, thanks.”

Transfer window shuts, at ten past ten on the day before the deadline.

    See what I’m saying?

The biggest lesson learnt this summer is always get the highest profile manager that fits the bill that you can.

They are high profile for a reason – they are ruthless and come with a list of contacts in the game that will help fill 2 or 3 positions with sufficient quality right away before you even need to talk to your scouts.

In a way we are 2 years behind schedule and will be paying for mistakes made in the last two years at least until next summer. At least then there are at least 4 more out of contract and more deadwood may also be shifted in January, giving huge scope to continue to add quality rather than quantity.

That is why people are saying give it 2 or 3 transfer windows – it is a reasoned opinion but lets not forget it was mistakes of our own doing that put us here. No more ‘project’ managers – its too important a position.

Now we are on the right path again and it feels good – I have a feeling we will forget the disappointment of yesterday before too long.

    No…certainly not.

40 years being treated like an idiot, home and away….was enough for me.

It saddens me though….that Celtic fans have no power to get rid of these halfwits on the PLC.
