Brendan delighted with window as Celtic business complete

691

Brendan Rodgers declared himself delighted with his first transfer window as Celtic manager, which is now over, after the additions of Kolo Toure, Scott Sinclair, Moussa Dembele, Dorus de Vries and Cristian Gamboa.

Toure, Dembele and Sinclair, the managers three primary targets, were acquired early, while de Vries and right back, Gamboa, were added recently. Deals went close to the wire today but the hoped-for midfield player (which was never James McCarthy) didn’t materialise.

A permanent deal for a (known around these parts) central defender to backfill Jozo Simunovic, who was wanted by Torino, couldn’t be tied up either, so Torino also look to have missed their target.

You’ll hear direct from the manager soon enough but he’s got the calibre of recruit he wanted – which he didn’t know would be possible three months ago.

There was never anything possible to make a formidable Champions League group look any easier, but we’ll compete at the top table, and we’ll wipe the floor with all-comers domestically.

More tomorrow.

I played football my whole life, until i couldnt.

I know what a good player looks like.

I also know….when people are at it, like the PLC.

    Its not difficult is it.

We want to do well in the CL…..but wont sign a decent midfielder, sorry, but thats just nonsense.

What good is money….if you cannot play at a decent level and do yourself justice.

    James Morrison indeed ffs

    Its all bs.

You have money….buy a decent player.

Anything else is just another bs excuse

  4. Ah well Brendan looks like your honeymoon is over with the malcontents, it was only a matter of time mind you, even blogger James Forrest has kicked you out the bed, although he’ll post a blog running with the hair and chasing with the hounds that it wasent your fault, as it been done to the previous managers since MOM.

It’s just an other malcontent meeting of the minds in CQN to make sure they are all on the same page about Peter Lawwell and that no stone will be unturned until Jeanette Findley sits at the top table representing the students and left wing socialists party (don’t fall for Celtic supporters best interest spin) and that they would take all on board as a member of the CT, but would rather prefer you where a share holder, and held many as there is an end to the means so to speak.

    IMO.

  5. For you Bowie fans out there …

A few of the members of the well known Glasgow band The Sensational David Bowie Tribute band are playing an acoustic set of Bowie classics in MChuills on Saturday night.

Sure to be a good night as always.

You know something? There are times when you really do come off as an absolute joke, a clown without any redeeming merits whatsoever.

If you can show me where – anywhere – that I’ve criticised Brendan Rodgers I’ll never write another blog again.

I dare you. You absolute f@@@wit.

  7. TGM…why did you put up with it for 40 years…are you a daftie…you didn’t twig? We have always been shafted…the problem is that now it is a very, very expensive shafting…but we have always been second class citizens to the boardroom…am I a Celtic idiot? Yes, I suppose I am…a cannae help it…

  8. So all the disappointed are singing from the same hymn sheet now,are they?.Brendan Rodgers is only a puppet manager and PL is still in control.

Pl decides on the transfers, the budgets, the wages, irrespective of who Brendan wants.Brendans role is,as Ronnies was to only coach the team.

Any success we have will now be equally shared between PL and Brendan.

    Any failures ,likewise.

Brendan Rodgers is the type of manager that would allow his ideas, transfer targets to be cast aside by PL,and say nothing, and carry on.

Is that what you are telling us?

Was up at Celtic park there to get tickets for CL package.

No queue, in and out in 3 minutes.

But some bad news for a family member who can now afford a season book – there aint any left.

Lady on counter says they have stopped selling them, as the few hundred left were all in the restricted view positions, and not worth the push.

    Oh well.

You know, for one minute, when we got Brendan….I really thought things were going to change.

I really should have known better.

    Same s****, different manager

Seems TGM agrees with my last post.

  11. Can’t wait for the Season of Goodwill to start. Bring on Christmas!

Can you imagine CQN if we weren’t top of the league, in the CL and making major improvements on the park?

  12. The Green Man says SACK THE Board on

    WEEBOBBYCOLLINS

Yes…I was a daftie for listening to the absolute guff of the likes of Michael Kelly, and now the bonus junkie Peter Lawell.

And they operate in the same manner.

    Treating supporters like idiots.

50,000 season tickets and 30 million CL money, and the best (target) they can come up with…..James Morrison!

  13. Hopefully now the window has closed we can get down to spending some of our increased income in getting BR to extend his contract. That will allow for proper planning over the next few windows.

I’d rather spend money getting BR contracted to the club for a number of years.

If it was just about PL and his popularity he could have spent £3-4m ish on a unknown midfielder. He didn’t which puts him in the spotlight and enhances BR. Given our income we could have spent the money and PL’s financial KPI’s would surely have been met.

Maybe a sign of changed times?

  14. Apparently, Big Pete Lawwell is so much of a control freak he is going to man the turnstiles himself…”You can come in…you cannae…you’re awright…hey, you eff off! you’re no gettin’ in…’n you as well, yir pashed, p*ss off…ok hen, you ‘n the wean kin come in…what’s yir name? The Green Man? Oh, ffs…polis, polis ower here…”

  16. JAMES FORREST on 1ST SEPTEMBER 2016 10:34 AM

Love the James Morrison story in the papers today :)

Because if he was the midfield target we worked even less hard than I thought.

How long does it take to lift a phone and say “I’m calling about James Morrison. Is there any scope for doing business there? No? Okay then, thanks.”

Transfer window shuts, at ten past ten on the day before the deadline.

    See what I’m saying?

So your saying the James Morrison story isn’t true?.

And of course you have proof right?

Or are you saying Brendan Rogers never made the phone call, someone else did?

Throw me a bone here ffs, oh and easy on the name calling, with your university education I expected better?

I think the signings of Kolo, Sinclair and De Vries will improve us . Vastly improve us upon what RD served up. The fact that Roberts I’d now a first team pick says it all.

Will be back on the blog daily from the Barca game.

  21. The problem is, you’re not going GET better from me.

You won’t get better from me than that which you give out.

But I’ll respond properly to you, which is a courtesy you’ve NEVER extended anyone here.

That post on James Morrison is a CLEAR – to anyone with a fraction of intelligence – reference to our exalted CEO. I’m asking how much work it takes to lift a phone, ask a club if a player’s for sale and hear the word “no.” That’s not Brendan Rodgers job. That’s someone else’s.

I know and so do you who that someone else is.

And that’s all you get. A clarification.

Your reference to “running with the hair and chasing with the hounds” is typical of what you do; you go from being barely tolerable to out-casting yourself by making it personal EVERY TIME. You can’t help it, because that’s the greater part of who you are now.

Today you’ve passed the “barely tolerable” by quite some yardage.

I’m not going to respond to another thing you write.

Well James,if that is your summation of Tony Donnelly,I would love your thoughts on The Green Man and Neganon.

As someone who thinks you are the best writer of all things Celtic, and Scottish football,I would have to say, that was uncalled for.

I am sure TD does not give a flying f— what you think, but personally,I was disappointed in the content.
