Brown and Lustig with international and Champions League conflicts

848

A year ago you and I discussed Scott Brown’s fitness with some concern for the season ahead. Since then the captain has not skipped a beat, his form and availability for selection have been without question.

It is clear he can cope with a Scotland game this weekend, and no doubt finish the season untroubled, but Scotland have an international against England on 10 June, two weeks after the Scottish Cup final, and four weeks before Celtic’s Champions League qualification campaign gets underway.

If Scott is to participate in all games, he will have a week off after the Scottish Cup final before being called into the Scotland squad, then two weeks before Celtic’s preseason training starts. For a player of his age, with his injury profile, this schedule would not allow sufficient recuperation ahead of a new season.

Selfishly, the most important thing to you and I, and to Celtic, is Champions League qualification, more so than the Scottish Cup, or than a season of invincibility, delightful, though both would be. What Brendan Rodgers backroom team need to do is prepare Scott as thoroughly as possible for the middle of July. Planning should start now.

If there’s another player in the Celtic squad who I would also like to ration his football it’s Mikael Lustig. The Sweden international is likely to be involved in both their international squad in June; a World Cup qualifier against France and a derby against Norway.

If Scotland fail to get a positive result against Slovenia on Sunday, Scott might consider it best to retire from the international stage, again. He and Mikael could do with a few weeks on the beach at the end of the season.

  1. When I was a young fella, a very young fella, served my apprenticeship with my Da, he always told me things that have come back to haunt me and by God I wished I paid more attention to him at the time, but you don’t cos you are a young fella who thinks they know it all.

The bold TET sliced half of his thumb off this after, cos I didn’t listen to my Da and what he told me, never cut towards yourself, simples really and have listened to him for more than 60 years yet today I had a lapse, what a tosser, the thumb will be out of action for a month or so.

The moral of the story is listen to your elders, cos as sure as feck they know :-)

Dublin playing Roscommon in National Football league. Second half about to begin and Dubs 11 points ahead. If we go on to win it it will be a new record being unbeaten thirty five games in a row (incl. 6 draws).

I think if you check back you will find that I mentioned that the “Open Bar” charge mooted by the venue was £26 – this has simply been added to the original food charge.

Hello again all you young rebels.

Another hot and sunny weekend here in Oz as we approach

winter, our bhoys had their first meaningful friendly yesterday

as we near our seasons start although it was anything but a

friendly, the wee mhan struggled a bit against more mature

players and although he smacked the post and laid a goal on

a big centre half kept him quiet so i cheered up a bit when i saw

the big C.H with a Celtic trackie top on after the game so things

weren’t so bad getting beat 3-2.

The bhoys are heading to the Celtic training camp in a couple of

weeks and i must give the club some credit for putting on more

training sessions over here, a new one is happening at Chadston

and is completely booked out as soon as it was announced the

support for Celtic over here is massive so maybe were not the

    forgotten race after all.

Maybe a wee shoppe now and i’ll be in paradise.

Could you enlighten me regards transport to Edinburgh Airport,is there transport laid on or do we make our own way to the Airport I have a couple of options, book a Hotel for the night before, or order a taxi to take me to the Airport for the flight in the morning, or if there is anyone going by car on the M9 They could pick me up at home, willing to pay my share of petrol and it would only be a five minute diversion to pick me up.I don’t want to leave it to the last minute.

Almore – Barney Rock himself said in the Irish News during the week, that the current Dublin team still have a long way to go, before they can be even considered as the beat of all time.

I think he stated yous would need to win the next three Championships, then perhaps in 2020…

    Good luck with that.

A myriad of different factors and reasons have to be considered.

  15. 16 Roads: Tonight was an easy win but Dublin haven’t played great in this league campaign so far. The game is a lot different now – so much hand passing and Dubs in particular are super fit.

Still enjoying it though. Better than last night’s fare in the Aviva.

  19. 16 Roads: I hope that when Dublin do lose that it will be to a team who will play better than them, if that makes sense. Dublin, Kilkenny in the hurling, and our own beloved Celtic have set standards that all other teams should aspire to.

Can’t help but wonder if the Welsh manager instructed his players at half time, to put the boot in second half.

Ireland were roughing them up, no doubt about that – fairly though.

One of the best full backs in European football career now hanging in the balance, due to an abysmal challenge from a mediocre Championship player.
