Brown and Lustig with international and Champions League conflicts

848

A year ago you and I discussed Scott Brown’s fitness with some concern for the season ahead. Since then the captain has not skipped a beat, his form and availability for selection have been without question.

It is clear he can cope with a Scotland game this weekend, and no doubt finish the season untroubled, but Scotland have an international against England on 10 June, two weeks after the Scottish Cup final, and four weeks before Celtic’s Champions League qualification campaign gets underway.

If Scott is to participate in all games, he will have a week off after the Scottish Cup final before being called into the Scotland squad, then two weeks before Celtic’s preseason training starts. For a player of his age, with his injury profile, this schedule would not allow sufficient recuperation ahead of a new season.

Selfishly, the most important thing to you and I, and to Celtic, is Champions League qualification, more so than the Scottish Cup, or than a season of invincibility, delightful, though both would be. What Brendan Rodgers backroom team need to do is prepare Scott as thoroughly as possible for the middle of July. Planning should start now.

If there’s another player in the Celtic squad who I would also like to ration his football it’s Mikael Lustig. The Sweden international is likely to be involved in both their international squad in June; a World Cup qualifier against France and a derby against Norway.

If Scotland fail to get a positive result against Slovenia on Sunday, Scott might consider it best to retire from the international stage, again. He and Mikael could do with a few weeks on the beach at the end of the season.

  1. BEATBHOY @ 9:41 AM,

Good to see the name ‘Rangers’ used at least once in proper context in the BBC article about King linked earlier, in which Glibby states:

“And the other important thing is Rangers had for a number of years the strongest retail operations in the UK and that has been completely lost with the present situation around the retail agreement.”

It may have been used in the proper context but I can’t say much about the accuracy…

Firstly I don’t think Rangers ever had the strongest retail operation, it would certainly have been dwarfed by Man United for a start.

Secondly It was 2006 when SDM sold Rangers retail licence for £18M up front payment from JJB with £3M per annum.

So £3M per Year is a long way off the strongest retail operation in the UK.

Then as SDM had closed down the retail operation after the JJB deal, sacking the workers without due compensation, the Rangers had no Retail Operation to speak of when JJB went bust.

I think you’d have to have a glib imagination to concoct the Rangers have the Strongest Retail Operation in the UK fairy tale.

Total nonsense, delivered to a sympathetic, lamb eater on TalkSport and Shamelessly, Lazily, Copied and Pasted by the BBC.

    Hail Hail

Come to the light blue side and my sunshine I provided you today will forever shine upon you perpetually.

I will pray four both your lost souls at mass tomorrow and ask God (my dad) to help assist in your children’s path to the Champions of Europe Elect.

  3. What a glorious day in darkest Lanarkshire. Sun shining, garden done and just mastered a dish of Dauphinois Potatoes so indulgent they would be on the banned list of any Presbyterian minded kitchen. Now for vigil Mass and more good news as the lhads team down south qualifies for their league cup final and he grabbed a goal. God smiles on the righteous for sure. HH

I did make clear who I was quoting!

It’s the same BBC Scotland who stated in response to the BBC Trust in 2012 re the ‘same club’ shite:

“A football club, once incorporated, is indistinguishable in Scots law from its corporate identity.

If the club was separate it would need its own constitution, committee members, trustees, etc.

Rangers Football Club does not have that because it is incorporated.”

Accuracy used to matter to them.

Anyway, it’s such a tiny lie compared to the humongous one they’ve been telling since 2012, ably assisted by the SMSM, SFA and SPFL.

After claiming a 4 year old club is going for 55 top tier titles, what’s a wee fib about retail sales?

  5. I also added a bit of accuracy of my own, not included in Chairbhoy’s quote.

Unfortunately, massive fail at the end, as the words “completely lost”, should be followed by “with the liquidation of the club”.

Remember, he must accept that to be true, or why would he have talked in 2015 of taking the club out of liquidation to stop the mocking which the Zombies suffer as they are correctly told by other teams’ supporters: “It’s a new club!”.

I wrote very early in the season that I think his next club is Real Madrid. ZZ said very early on that Celtic were the perfect club for him and he should stay here for 2 or 3 seasons to learn his trade at a great club.

I have previously said that I reckon if the vultures come circling in the summer Madrid will buy him and loan him back for a season or 2. Suits both clubs and Moussa.

  7. BEATBHOY @ 7 5:53 PM,

I did make clear who I was quoting!

Yes you did… Reading back the tone of my piece was wrong – Obviously I didn’t want to suggest you were condoning what DCK said:)

Yes, it’s just amazing to think they make this stuff up on the hoof and the MSM run with it.

As I oft say in relation to the guffery… The following is true, only the facts have changed to protect the guilty.

A poster t’uther day was suggesting that it was the Park’s running the show @ Ibrox. Now that may be so but DCK obviously still has his pals in the media.

If it was the Park’s who appointed Brother Pedro, Wonder what they make of Mr King’s…

The subcommittee who appointed him did a good job:)))))

    There may be trouble ahead…

It’s been a glorious day in and around Glasgow.

I had a few wee errands to run so I got the bike out (the 1200s) rather than take the car. Open-face helmet, a pair of prescription Ray-bans and a good wee run oot on the bike! Magic!

  10. Recommend this from James Forrest of this parish…

    https://thecelticblog.com/2017/03/blogs/this-site-and-others-are-going-to-keep-hammering-back-at-those-who-lie-about-our-club/

Interesting change in tactic in MSM re cloning the success of the Celtic bloggers. A fifth column seems to have been opened telling us to stick to football chat i.e. Action on the field, talking about Sevco is obsessive behaviour, Res 12? Get a life.! Title stripping? That boat has sailed blah blah blah

James Forrest took some abuse on this yesterday. Apparently he is a crap writer. Oh well.

Glasgow alive cos the Rangers Died and their beloved Record is next…

    Not a problem!

Just to let everyone know, St Mary’s now has its sound system restored after the great support of the Celtic family. Fr Tom was able to use it for the Vigil Mass tonight for the first time.

A new security system has also been installed along with upgraded CCTV (courtesy of fundraising in the Parish and a fantastic price offered by Jim McEnaneney).

A massive thanks to Milnburn CSC and everyone from the Celtic family who donated.

@James Forrest – if you are lurking could you drop a note on Video Celts please?
